My New Camera

So I bought a new camera today.  Sort of on a whim.  I know, how irresponsible of me.  Andy would be mortified at my lack of thorough research.

I'm fairly new in the world of SLR photography.  I have a relatively inexpensive digital camera of the point and click variety, which has been very adequate up until now, and for my work-blog pics, I've been using the company camera (which sadly is way out of my price range).  But I wanted something of my own, and something that would take more...interesting pictures than I had been taking up until now.  Plus I just plain needed a hobby.

So, I got this one at Best Buy on my whim today at lunch.  It just "felt" right, more so than the others I tried.

Of course I've been playing with it all evening....Steven is sick of saying "CHEEEESE!"  Although I've asked him not to say that anymore, he still feels compelled whenever he sees the camera in front of my face.  I've trained him too well.

Granted, I still have a lot of learning to do (and resizing this to something blog-manageable has left it less sharp than it was originally, I need to figure that out too), I can definitely say I have NEVER EVER taken an action shot that looks as clear as this one does:

Amy,

Excellent choice, IMO. My daughter, a photography student, uses one of these. I've got one that I haven't yet used much, but this model is quite a useful tool.

Great pic of Steven, too.

Thanks, Dee!  It was a lot of funny playing with it over the weekend.  If anyone wants to see how this camera performs with an absolute newbie behind the lens, check out some shots here:  http://picasaweb.google.com/Klipschgirl

I'm surprised it doesn't automatically turn on the fill flash.

You're the third person who has mentioned that to me today, Andy.  I must read up on the manual  :)

Amy great camera, that is the one that I am looking at getting.  Did you get the 18-55mm lens combo?  If you want another place to post your pictures check out www.photographyreview.com.  They are a bunch of great people that know their stuff and are will to teach others, just like this place.

Thanks, James!  I'll check out that site.  Yes, I got the 18-55mm lens with it.  I'm looking at other lenses and fancy detachable flash thingys (yes, I'm so technical), but wow, that stuff is expensive.  At least to get the good quality ones.  I think I'll wait until Christmas...or at least until I actually read the manual.  I still haven't got that far.  But it's so much fun!

I seen that you like to take portraits, this is a lens that many have recommended. http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=32400.  For about $80 many have said it is a must have lens.

I am looking at the same kit that you have and this 50mm 1.8 lens.

Wow, great price, I'll check that out!  I do like taking portraits of Steven, but I also like landscapes and historical buildings as well.  I just don't get out much...and there's not too many cool landscapes in Central Indiana!  :)  Someday I'll travel...

Thanks for the tip!
