Deciding on some Cornwalls What to do?

I need some advice. I have a friend who owns some Klipsch Cornwalls.  purchased in 1978. I owned a pair in about 1987 and I'm interested in buying this speakers from her. I sold mine years ago. I have the paper work here on these speakers she is willing to sell me but don't know if I should. My concern is age. I have not seen these but I'm certain they are in excellent condition meaning not abused. They look exactly like the ones I bought in 87. What would you consider a fair price and what do you think I should look for in regards to insuring the speakers proper performance? I really need some guidance. Thanks Jean

Welcome Jean, others will help out with a fair price, I don't keep up with those things. As far as there performance just check " by ear " that each individual driver/speaker is working, you can cover one and listen to the other.

That should cover most of it, after listening for a while to get an idea of how they sound you should probably look into refreshing the crossovers, this don't have to be expensive if you just replace the caps. Thats the main parts that change over time, there are many Cornwalls out there that are MUCH older than those, they will probably outlive you !

Others will be along with different opinions, all in the same general area, it's a safe buy, as far as there age goes that is not a problem at all. If the price is fair buy them, that's my thought.

I agree with Dtel on this, others should be able to help with price but without pictures even that is still just a ballpark figure.  With price you have to factor in condition of components and condition of cabinets.

A far as age I current have 2 pair that are older then that.  I have a pair from '68 that are all still original and I am keeping them that way.  My other pair are from '71 and they have the upgraded x-overs, that I purchased like that.  It all depends on how they sound to you and if you like them.  You can also purchase them and switch out everything from a member here, Bob Crites, have have a like new speaker.  It all depends on you and what you want to do with them.

Also like Dtel mentioned, if its been this long you really do need a pair and you should have them in your house by now with the volume cranked up so loud that the walls are shaking, what are you waiting on.  Stick out tongue
