    What's next????

    Current system

    Center- RC-62II

    Floor- RF-82II

    Wall- RS-62II

    Sub- SW-310

    Reciever- Marantz SR6005

    B-Ray- Sony BDP-S480

    TV- Sony HX729

What other speakers should I get to finish my 7.2.  I was thinking another SW-310 or SW-115 or Epik Empire Dual.  What’s the biggest difference between the 3 subs? What other upgrades if any do I need to finish off my system?

I can post a few pics if it would give a better idea of where I should put them? If you think that would help.

    CH11587,

    Welcome to the forum.

    Nice setup you have there.

    ch11587:
What other speakers should I get to finish my 7.2.

I would suggest putting my $$$ toward an external amp or a second subwoofer.  If you are planning on still using the SW-310, just add the SW-115.  Let the SW-310 handle most of the midbass and the SW-115 the low bass.

While I am sure your Marantz SR6005 is a nice receiver, your system deserves more amplifier ooomph.  Those are big speakers with multiple drivers that sure would benefit from more horsepower(high current) and headroom.  In my opinion, a good HT system needs dynamics that a midlevel receiver alone usually can't provide.   What is the size of your room?   Is it an open plan?

I may have a 5-channel(200w/ch) Acurus amp for sale in the near future.

Well, it all depends on what type of room you have to work with.  Front Heights are nice or surround backs.  The Epik Empire is slightly cheaper than the SW 115 and is a great sub.  Dual subs added the most impact for my setup.    AVR/Power amp requires a little thought on where you want to go with your system and it's signature look.  That's what makes this hobby fun.

    Re: What's next????

I do like the concept of having all the same type of speakers and will probably be looking for a good deal on SW-115.  I've never had an amp and am kinda hesitante becasue I don't want the amp to over power my speakers and blow them if I decide to rock out (I am 27 and enjoy my music loud haha) The Marantz reciever can handle 100 watts per channel.  I believe all my speaker can handle up to 150 watts of power.

Currently I have my floor speakers set up with bi wire to my amp.  I can tell a difference when watching a movie and listen to music.

Is it better to run an amp with more power than the speakers???

What do I look for in an amp?

If I were to get my system to a 7.2 I was thinking about going with the RB-81

I can get pics and measurements of my current layout tomorrow to give you all a better idea.

if you like it loud all the more reason to have an amplifier. they suggest for you to have an aunt that is 2x the rms of your speakers. that way you lower the risk of your amp clipping and damaging your speakers. i have my 220 watt x 5 hooked up to rf3s and they sing.

    Re: What's next????

Besides your receiver and sub, you have the same setup I have =^) I put 81 iis as my rears. Depending on the size of your room, it's probably not necessary to go that big as the 81s could even do well as fronts. If I was to go back, I'd probably go with 61 iis in the rear and save a bit of money. I have the SW-115 and I can recommend it. I plan on getting a second one as soon as I can save the money for it. Should be within the next couple months. If I was to buy an amp today, I'd probably pick up a Marantz mm7005 mostly because I like how they look (=^p), but they are 150x5. I'm a bit paranoid like you and wouldn't want too much amp for my speakers and 150 rms is definitely more power than I would even ever need.

Now Ivan, you would need to buy an amp that matches your new Denon AVR-4311.Wink  It's only $7499.99 at Amazon.com.  It also is 150w/ch.  Did I mention that it weighs 132 pounds?Indifferent

    Re: What's next????

The job of the amp is to provide extra power and current for trasient peaks in music or movies that become compressed or clipped off when there is not enough power.  You are more likely to damage your speakers by under powering them and melt your voice coill  Only if you are really blasting your speaker will you experience mechanical trauma to the drivers.  Klipsch speaker will never let you get that loud unless you go outside, lol.  A guy last year damage his new RF 83's playing at max amp with an amp that could not handle the load.  It is recommend that you have at least 2x the speaker RMS for the head room needed to protect your equipment.

Any suggestions on a brand for an amp?  I was looking at SPA-5 I know it's only 5 channel so would i have to get another amp for the rears once I got those?  Also what does a pre amp do? Sorry I'm kinda a noob

    Re: What's next????

^^^Not *necessarily* A lot of people use the AVR for the rears as they don't need as much power, but also when your AVR is only running 2 channels, you actually get all of the wattage that it's rated at.

Yeah, Acurus.Stick out tongue  There are really quality amps out there on the used market that can be found for a fraction of what they were brand new.  Some of the amp brands I have experience with are B&K, NAD, Acurus, Parasound, Emotiva.  All mentioned are good quality amp mfr's that produce reliable and musical products.

Room dimensions 23' Long 15' wide

Floor speakers are 7'-6" apart w/ a sub on both sides (SW-310) and old 100 watt klipsh I've had since I was 16. Center channel is in the middle of them
