Here is cost about $2000 to get a decent setup in your car, with average sound, may be Alpine or similar brand that are Ipod ready. I started searching ways to save and the idea came to me. Just to the Ipod music get it to come out the klipsch IFI, i'm sure the sound could even be better than a lot of the car speaker that's availble out there. Anyone have any idea on how to do it?

I just want to know, how can you power the IFI, just power it inside a car, what do you need etc.. this could be the cheapest best alternative out there, and interesting project.

Well there are power transformers that you can plug into your cigarette lighter that would accept the standard wall outlet plug that your IFI uses. You can get them from anywhere between $40 and $300:

Hmm, wow I have never thought of that. As for the SQ any great home audio speakers can beat caraudio in SQ, even the top of the line caraudio speakers in my opinion. I think people sometimes spend $2000 for loud sound. Then again in my opinion caraudio has louder subwoofers with more watts than any homeaudio subwoofer.

one thing that should be noted is that a car is a hugely variable environment...... car temp/air pressure/noise/resonance are all constantly changing....so even if you were to recreate your home stereo equipment in your car you probably wouldn't get near the same level of quality as it does in your home....

that being said if your looking for top of the line sound with bargain basement prices I very much recommend Adire Audio's mobile line, there home equipment line is also top rate (I am even biased towards klipsh) and can compare with our beloved klipsch equipment...

I run 1 Adire Brahma 15" in the back of my 99 trans am and I can say it beats most car subwoofers on the market in both DB and SQ....

If you try this, just remember tht products designed to work in the home are very different from products designed to work in the car. Inside temps are typically 60 - 90 degrees F while temps in your car might be -20 to 140 degrees F. Pretty rough environment for any home audio product. While we do accelerated environmental testing on our products, we do not test iFi to work at those extreme temps.

For me the idea of being able to have Klipsch speaker everywhere that interest me. I don't mind blowing $700 (include importing to Australia) just for the sake of having some Klipsch in my car. My friend have bose in his Mazda 6 Lux, i want to have Klipsch, i'm sure they would sound better than many other availble car stereo, besides i will only be using them when needed in the car with the ipod. When i leave the car i will bring the speaker back in the home. The sub will be sitting on the back seats. You know the IFI is the easiest way to have Klispch in your car.
I am actually getting a friend to buy it for me from Canada and to arrange the cheapest shipping availble. I will be getting them in about 2 weeks or so.

Remember that the sun accelerates damage to the cones real quick. BTW it has been done with the promedia speakers

Yeah it's been done just remember that you need a higher powered dc to ac converter and you might hear a hiss since the converter usually adds alot of dirty power and I remember reading somewhere that it produces or not a square wave similiar to the ac current of a household but not exactly. Also those cheap dc to ac converters are known to catch fire if over used...
