STEVE!, I am sorry to hear that you had a similar event at your home!  Such a pain isn't it??  I could not do the carpet rip up here, just too much of it, and it was VERY heavy stuff, the guys were getting cut up from the edges too !   I highly recomment the vinyl planks, but the epoxy adhesive is VERY expensive at $104 per gal. and I needed 4 gallons!!   This stuff will withstand water and anything else you can through at it and it looks exactly like wood now, these planks also have beveled edges which helps to make them look more realistic!  Let me know how you make out ok ?

Right now, just letting it dry out down there.  What happened was that the water seepage was enough and the padding under the carpet basically soaked it like a sponge!  Thus, when I put new flooring down, I am going to use that DRICore stuff as a sub-floor.  It sits off the slab with rubber studs so any seepage will pass safely underneath.  When installed correctly, (with 1/2 inch gap around the walls), it allows air flow underneath and allows the concrete to stay dry and thus no mold build up.  Everybody that I've talked to that used it and had the same type issus that I had says this stuff works perfectly.

There are two halves to my basement.  The other half, without the carpet dried up nicely on its own (in fact there was no water when I discovered it, but I can tell water did seep in. I am going to pull up the tile that is there now and also lay down this DRICore stuff but will also look into that vinyl flooring you mentioned.

Anyway, about all this 9/11 stuff.   Yeah, I have a hard time watch a lot of this stuff on TV myself due to the emotions.

    Short Trip Home                                                                                             CD

Joshua Bell & Edgar Meyer with Sam Bush & Mike Marshall

    1999 Columbia Records

This recording was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for "Best Classical Crossover Album."

Bassist Edgar Meyer, equally at home in Nashville or Lincoln Center, likes to invite his classical friends to mix with his country friends in performances of his hybrid brand of bluegrass chamber music. In SHORT TRIP HOME, he has assembled a team long on bow arms. Featured are guitarist Mike Marshall and mandolin player Sam Bush, both of whom double on fiddle, and star violinist Joshua Bell, the name above the title, who not only fits well into the proceedings, but soars right above them when the occasion calls for it. What makes this disc more rewarding than many crossover assemblages is that Meyer is not crossing over, this melt of classical and country, Bill Monroe and Béla Bartók, is exactly what he writes and writes most successfully. At its best, such as in 'Death by Triple Fiddle' or the extended four movement 'Concert Duo' it can be mighty satisfying stuff, whether heard from an aisle seat or a front porch swing.

    1. Short Trip Home
    2. Hang Hang
    3. BT
    4. In the Nick of Time
    5. Concert Duo for Violin and Double Bass: The Prequel

Reissue of their first album, originally released on the Wooden Nickel label, which was under the RCA umbrella. The fact that it includes such diverse fare as Copland's 'Fanfare For The Common Man' & George Clinton's 'After You Leave Me' alongside the original 'Best Thing' seemingly indicates the Chicagoans had a taste for experimenting and an unknowing sense of humor that vanished during their stadium rock dynasty of the late '70s & early '80s. Six tracks total. 1998 One Way Records release.

Now That I've Found You - A Collection                                                               CD

    Alison Krauss

    1995 Rounder Records

    Amazon.com essential recording

A poll-winning fiddler since her teens, Alison Krauss was an established bluegrass star when her label persuaded her to step out from her usual projects with Union Station, her crack band, and sanction this compilation of various band and solo guest performances. The ploy worked, yielding a wonderful, odds-beating crossover hit with Krauss's cover of "Baby, Now That I've Found You," a carousing late-'60s pop chant transformed into a delicate, vulnerable declaration of love. Focusing on Krauss's lovely, yearning soprano, the track elevated the musician above her resolutely democratic role in her quintet, catapulting Krauss to the biggest bluegrass success story in over 30 years. Krauss has stayed true to her bluegrass roots, as well as to Union Station, but this cross-section of contemporary bluegrass songs, joyous gospel, and canny rock covers testifies to the young artist's luminous appeal. --Sam Sutherland
