Jensen will have the number PL15 ink stamped on the outer edge of the basket as viewed from the rear. Usually has a silver colored basket and cover over the magnet.

I wouldn't. You could also staple convoluted foam in there. Klipsch uses little felt feet (puppy feet) to keep the staple from tearing out when they use this material in their pro speakers. Generally you're just trying to damped standing waves inside the cabinet. Dampening ONE of each of two parallel sides is sufficient- ie back, one side, top.

numbers were usually used for grille codes black = 17, cane = 3. S usually meant 'factory stained' in the case of LS cabinets. Were these stained and someone sanded them down?

a lot of the pro stuff uses fine thread bolts and fittings. Try 10-32 Bruce.
