• Re: I going to get an Almarro integrated.

My god you are a jackass! Patience my friend. Don't jump quite yet. First, what music do you typically listen to? SET (in this case SEP) affaciandos will tell you this topology will do everything but put a vestal virgin in your bed. I suspect said vestal virgin better not be playing reggae, hard rock or a 300 piece orchestra at full tilt boogey. Get the speakers first, try them with what you have, then go from there. Got any friends with some decent gear you borrow? Any local hi-fi stores? Great

  • Re: Making candles..... ?

Why make when you can buy. I like these. They really kill the smell of cigar smoke: cannabis candle - marijuana candle - pot candle - votive My cannabis candles have an unpleasant aroma that smells just like marijuana smoke. It is a novelty. Pot candles are a clever idea for 60's theme party My husband took a cannabis candle to the courthouse where he worked as a joke. The guards put if through a "smelling machine" and it passed as real cannabis even though there is no marijuana in

  • Re: 8ohm v 4ohm yet again
No fight here, I am SS all the way.
I don't know. SS was pretty much discredited in the waning days of WW II. Indeed, most of it's adherents who survived were forced, rightly I might add, to flee for their lives. Given that even it's youngest members would be a minimum of 80 years of age, I think those who favor tubes have little to fear from the trembling hands of an outmoded idea.

  • Re: Tube supplier in Michigan?

Any good music store, especially one that sells a lot of guitars should have them.

  • Re: Dynakit Stereo 70 Pics

Hard to tell without testing, but those are double- getter Mullards that look to have low hours on them. If they test like new they are worth around $100 a piece, so don't blow up the amp and take them with it. Seriously, until it's restored pull the Mullards and use some modern EL 34's. Those Mullards sound fantastic but their life is being wasted using them on an unrestored amp. I'm using a quad of them on my Marantz 8B and wish I had the money to get more.

Dang peasants. I don't know why I bother to shed the light of illumination amongst the unlettered class. Ok, here's the deal. Small tubes used in preamps are a lot different than power tubes. In fact, to my mind, and anybody with a mind, the small preamp tubes have a much greater impact on the sound of the music than anything a power tube can do. That's where to do your tube rolling. However, although the change isn't as dramatic, or important, power tubes can, and most assuredly

  • Re: Gluing Up Loose Tube Bases

Very cool and thanks for the responses. I've noticed a couple of tubes I've been testing that have loose bottoms will read great when twisted slightly, but bum out when just sitting there. I'm thinking since the JB weld is quick setting it'll do the trick, but the surround glue could probably be injected for a cleaner look. Does anybody know what they originally used in gluing up tubes? Whatever it is, it's amazing how well it has held up over the decades.

  • Gluing Up Loose Tube Bases

I think I saw someone (Marvel?) answer this question awhile back but I can't find it doing a search. In other words what do you use to re-glue a loose tube base. It's a common problem, especialy on some of the old radio tubes.
