    From This Moment On CD Diana Krall 2006 Verve Records Amazon.com This album appears in the footsteps of 2004's The Girl in the Other Room but doesn't sound like a follow-up. Whereas The Girl saw the pianist-singer abandon the Great American Songbook for more personal pastures, From This Moment On sees her working out on standards done in traditional arrangements. Although the tracks here are by the likes of Cole Porter, Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn, and the Gershwins, Krall sounds more

    Duke Elegant CD Dr. John Performing the music of Duke Ellington 2000 Blue Note Records Amazon.com Mac "Dr. John" Rebennack playing songs from the canon of Duke Ellington is as natural as the break of day. But the gris-gris king interprets Ellington in a way unlike anyone else. "Mood Indigo," arranged for Dr. John's six-man New Orleans group, takes on a fresh, heartfelt immediacy with the good doctor's vocals and piano locked into a relaxed groove. He sings another slice

    Appassionata CD Ramsey Lewis Trio 1999 Narada Jazz This 1999 release showcases the diverse pianist, Ramsey Lewis, in a more straight-ahead jazz environment. Concentrating much of his career on blending together pop and jazz to create (essentially) easy listening music, it's nice to hear Lewis return to his roots in a traditional jazz setting. Teamed up with fellow Chicago natives Larry Gray (acoustic bass) and Ernie Adams (drums), Lewis and company render very memorable and thoughtful arrangements

    Naste' CD Roy Ayers 1995 Grovetown/RCA Records Once one of the most visible and winning jazz vibraphonists of the 1960s, then an R&B bandleader in the 1970s and '80s, Roy Ayers' reputation s now that of one of the prophets of acid jazz, a man decades ahead of his time. A tune like 1972's "Move to Groove" by the Roy Ayers Ubiquity has a crackling backbeat that serves as the prototype for the shuffling hip-hop groove that became, shall we say, ubiquitous on acid jazz records;

  • Re: Monster amps & high efficiency speakers?

    I think you're right. I am driving my La Scala's (org.) with a David Hafler 100wpc (8 ohms) amp. and there is plenty of head room. I rarely turn it up to the half way point. I too am using a sub. So I would think 185wpc (4 ohms) would give you plenty of headroom. Dennie

    FIYO ON THE BAYOU CD Neville Brothers 1981 A&M Records Amazon.com The Neville Brothers, as a working unit, emerged as a result of 1976's magnificent Wild Tchoupitoulas project. On that album, the Brothers and their Meters cohorts backed a group of tribal chiefs (including their uncle "Big Chief Jolly") singing traditional Mardi Gras "war songs" and marches. The Nevilles' 1978 debut left behind their New Orleans foundation and suffered because of it. However, 1981's
