  1. This is cool stuff. MHL is a new industry standard for using mobile devices with TV's. In a nutshell, it is an interface from your portable device to the HDMI port. It supports high def video as well as full 7.1 surround. Not all TV's and receivers support MHL, and I'm not sure which portable devices do. It looks like manufacturers are adopting this interface, but acording to wiki, there are already 330 million devices. The only difference in the last year's Yamaha RX-V673 and the newer RX-V675 is the addition of MHL to the front HDMI input. This year, that will be the selling point of many receivers and preamps. We can all live without this if we don't want to pay a premium for our next receiver; however, this could be pretty important to people who rely on their portable device for everything. Here is an example of the plug used for an iPhone 5 for example:

  2. Hi all, I' m restoring an old MCM 1900, here you can reed the whole story. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10201497766941132&set=gm.704544146224282&type=1&theater I'm using the Techron TEF 12 acoustic analyzer to check the system. I'm in great dilemma if to keep it up with original components (these are quite old and cheap design), as it could be like an historycal car, or to improve it with today components, with a complete redesign, retaining just the wood boxes, trying to achieve a "Turbo MCM", but of course losing its hystorical value. I'm sure you all here know this system so I'll go directly to the questions. Bass Horn MWM/S The original specified driver is K43. It was good in the middle eighties, but is still good today? Mmmh, I'm not so sure, because power capabilities is quite low in respect to actual 15" woofers. Do you think it may be substituted with something of higher power/sensitivity/reliability, without affecting the overall bass sound quality? Do any of you tried to change it with something else? Do any of you know the T/S parameters of the K43? Mid bass Horn MSSM In this horn there is a Gauss 3181, but I know the original component is K41. Dont know how the Gauss was found in it. Do you know the parameters of this K41? It should be considered good as the Gauss? Mid high Horn MSM In this horn there are four K55V drivers on a manifold attached to a 2" K260 horn. Do you think that this complex can be substituted with something newer, and if so, with what? What do you think of single 2" phenolic driver on the K260? Do any of you tried to do this? High Horn MMTM This two horn with two K78 each. These starts at 6000 Hz hardly reach 16000 Hz and with about 108 dB sensitivity. I believe that a single horn with two 1" drivers may do a better job, maybe starting at about 4 Khz. and reaching at least 20 kHz. Sorry for all these questions, I would like to hear your opinions. Regards Marcello

  3. Pretty incredible deal on UMC-200, UPA-700, and the MRCA-7 interconnects for 799$. If anyone's in the market for a receiver or separates, it would be difficult to get any more bang for your buck than this. I'm not sure if buying the bundle will qualify you for the 25% off processor for life discount though.

  5. Many of us have a good many attachments. Mine was almost to the limit 100MB, so I went about resizing and posting smaller more compressed versions of the images, many of which were over 2MB each. Now I have 20MB of files. This is not for the faint of heart. Here's what I did: 1) Download FastStone Photo Resizer 2) Create a folder on the desktop to download images to. I called mine "resized klipsch" 3) Open "My attachments" on this forum, and 1 screen at a time do the following: 4) Right click image name, and "Save link as", and save to your desktop klipsch resize folder 5) Right click topic header to right and open in new tab 6) Click checkbox to right of topic header 7) Repeat steps 4-6 until you have all the large JPEGS downloaded 8) Using FastStone photo resizer, resize the images. Note: I downsized mine to max width 900 pixels. Have files stored in a subdirectory of your resize klipsch folder called smaller 9) One at a time, edit posts in the tabs you opened. You will need FULL EDITOR 10) Click CHOOSE FILE and navigate and select the file with the same name in the "smaller" subdirectory. DO NOT CLICK ATTACH FILE yet! It will fail. 11) Once every tab has a value in the Choose File area of it's editor, go back to the "Manage Attachments" tab you opened in #3 above. 12) Click "Delete Selected" at the bottom of that screen under the checkmark boxes. 13) One at a time, go to each tab and click "Attach this file". 14) One at a time, go to each tab and click "Submit modified post". 15) Delete files in "resized klipsch" directory and in the "smaller" subdirectory. 16) Click "Clear" on the input list of FastStone. 17) Repeat steps 3-16 until you have resized all images you want. Best of luck everyone. If I had access to the file server, I would have simply run FastStone on the files themselves. Since I don't, this was the only way I could figure out to accomplish it. Craig

  6. Hey Larry, Captn Bob had one, but sold/traded it to a friend about twenty years ago. I am sure there are a couple other old buzzards who twisted Fairchild knobs in the past as well, but it's really a way back machine thing now. Here are a couple photos of my humble Fairchilds. If you come across any Fairchild amp, I need one to go with the preamp(s) and the 412 table to make up a complete Fairchild setup.

  7. thanks for the advice. I decided not to get the crown amps for now and wait awhile longer to update my system. I may sell the denon down the road and get an emotiva set up. who know, I might even try the pioneer route. I am pretty happy with how my systems sounds, I just want to hear the Khorns at their full potential.

  8. External amps will certainly help. But you will still be hamstrung by the preamplifier section of your AVR. Ok for movies, not so much for music. Shakey
