  1. I had one of the best Christmas' ever this year: 1. Time with family. 2. A new job to start 2014 off with. 3. A new SVS SB12-NSD subwoofer from my beloved mother. 4. After selling enough things to purchase it, I just ordered a new Yamaha RX-A1020 receiver. Since getting the sub last week, I needed something with bass management. I was previously using an R-S700 stereo receiver, and while it had a sub out, it had zero bass management, and was not ideal. Plus, it has a few other features that I needed/wanted: Digital out connection, good quality DAC's with opt/coax inputs, and HD radio.

  7. Thx for the reminder Billybob. I texted the wife to see how her husband liked his gift and she said he was trying to hook it all up. I offered to help and they gladly accepted as they weren't too sure how to hook it all up. Got it all setup and during the auto calibration, I noticed them giggling every time the items on the walls would rattle. They had never actually "heard" an explosion or a rumble in their home before. They are VERY pleased with the sound of their new setup. They will be buying the AppleTV so they can stream music through their new setup instead of connecting to the small JBL Docking Station. For now, we will sell the RB-41ii's since their room isn't really setup for bookshelf surrounds. They may eventually add in-ceiling surrounds or they may just enjoy it as a 3.1 setup.

  8. I got nothin' and liked it. I used to say that Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday because Christmas was too stressful. My last few Christmases have been great and Christmas is now on par with Thanksgiving. Seriously, I did not get anything this year and it was a great Christmas. No stress at all. We agreed with the relatives that have everything and are difficult to shop for not to exchange gifts, but rather have a nice get together. So the stress of what to get them was gone and we had a great dinner that my wife and I cooked. And a great evening. And I had a great time shopping this year for other people and everyone really like their gifts. I got to cheat some because the gifts for my wife were kitchen things that we both use. The really fun one is my father in law. He welds, and I got him a good helmet and leathers. I also finally made the decision to stop with the Hallmark cards. I got to see what Hallmark pays for their leases this year and when it came time to buy cards, I finally said no more. I cannot contribute $40 for a bunch of cards so Hallmark float an expensive store and make a fortune. $6 each nowadays for a card that will barely be read then thrown away in a few days. We used some packages of Christmas cards that are blank on the inside and wrote out our own words. Everyone was happy.

  10. I told my wife I really didn't want everything this year as I'll be buying a saw in the next couple weeks. I gave each of my 3 children one inexpensive gift idea that they could get me as they were going to get me something whether I wanted anything or not. It sounds corny but I really get the most enjoyment out of the act of giving presents. I love it when my son in-law said "boy, I never expected THAT", or when my son has no idea what's in a box. He normally thinks he has everything figured out by holding a gift and shaking it. To surprise him and then have it be something he REALLY likes but wasn't on his Christmas is the best feeling ever.

  12. I didn't get anything for Christmas, but my wife and I moved to a new (to us) house, much closer to work for bth of us. We did well nough on the sale to pay off the new house and replace our 20+ year old appliances (washer/dyrer and stove). Still working the kinks out of getting everthing unpacked, audio set up... We're happy. New grandson this Fall, what more can you ask for? Bruce

  15. I've had a couple of Denons as well: AVR-3801 & AVR-3310CI. I really liked those as well, they both sounded great, and also never let me down, though I didn't own the 3310 for all that long, and I have read where those have had HDMI board issues as well.

  16. The best price I could find was $799 shipped (World Wide Stereo through Amazon), or $400 off original price since it has been replaced by the 1030. I have been looking at several others in the past week including the Marantz SR6007, Sherwood Newcastle R-972, and Onkyo TX-NR809, and a couple others. The Sherwood scared me away with all the bugs it appears to have, and it didn't have a phono input, though it was a great deal @ $499 shipped. The Onkyo was also $499 shipped, but I am too scared to purchase any recent Onkyo, with all the HDMI board failures they've been having. The Marantz was closest to the Yamaha as far as price ($699 refurb from A4L) and features I wanted. I ultimately chose the Yamaha, because I'm a huge fan of their gear, as they are (IMO) some of the best looking, well built, EXTREMELY RELIABLE, and excellent sounding receivers ever built. I've owned more Yammies than I can recall, and they've never let me down. I was also willing to go used to save some cash, but couldn't find anything that blew me away on Audiogon or Craigslist, and I don't have an Ebay/PayPal account. Besides, I like the piece of mind of having something new, with a warranty.

  20. Same here, both of my XPA-5's have worked flawlessly and no noise, hum or hiss as others have experienced. Outlaw has a good reputation and makes some quality gear and USA made is hard to find these days...... Emotiva did announce the new XMC1 will be made in Tennessee as well as their new tube gear. That will be a big plus for the company and may trickle into their amplifier offerings someday.
