  1. I have done this before and my buyer bought air-crates. But the boxes were not necessary. Get a pallet and a bunch of 4' x 8' sheets of 2" styro-foam sheets from the home depot along with a few rolls of shrink wrap. Basically, K Horns face to face on the pallet with foam between then and encase the outside in the styrofoam. Shrink wrap until they are one solid unit and strap them down to the pallet with rope or nylon straps (avoid metal unless you have heavy cardboard or wood to protect the speakers). If you really want to, you can put cardboard around the outside of the whole package (not a bad idea). I did all of this and shipped a pair of factory made K Horns in Tigerwood (one of about 6 pairs made - how I got my forum name). The buyer put them in storage and they died in a flood about 6 months later. He never even hooked them up. Sad story.

  2. Amy, just from that photo I believe your sister to be thoughtful, kind, respectful of others, and most of all caring. Am I close? I really do believe most of what you need to know about somebody can be gathered by just looking at them. What do you think?

  3. I've been really enjoying my restored late 70s LaScalas. I have found in my 18'x 32' room, on the short wall, they sound best about 12" from the back wall, and 18" from the side walls toed in, but not 45 degrees. The convergence point is about 2-3 feet beyond my listening position. I tried them in the corners, but the imaging suffered quite a bit, and the sound was blurry/confused. Does this mean K-horns would not work in my room? I do have perfect corners for them but am concerned about my experience with the Scalas. With the Scalas pushed back into the corners, it's the same tweeter and midrange in almost the same position as I'd get with K-horns, right? The sound gets better as I move them AWAY from the corners. Would K_Horn be any different? It's kinda an expensive cumbersome thing to try if it ain't gonna work.

  6. Notebook cleaning can be a big pain for sure. It seems like the notebook industry would devise easily removable fan/heatsinks. The server industry has been doing this for decades. It would be pretty simple to use heat sink piping and thermal compound to make a heatsink removable. As for the fan, that could have contacts much like a CDROM drive. Super simple...

  7. No need to worry, Emotiva's amps are rock solid and very reliable. I've had my XPA-5 and XPA-2 for over six years now. I got them on sale during the holidays back then and only paid $1300 for both if I'm not mistaken. They are not dead silent but you can't hear anything once a movie has started so to me it's not an issue. The new gen XPA is quite a bit quieter than the older one too.

  8. A good avr offers a lot of things that can be costly for a smaller company to do. Separate processors can be expensive and have the same technology time table as the avr's. It is a matter of personal choice but, i favor the avr/amp combo. The price of electronics drop so fast it is easy to get a good avr on the cheap.

  9. While traveling to visit my girlfriend/future wife, I took this photo in a church in Manila. I added the text in PhotoShop and made Christmas cards. The window was made in Germany, the church itself made in Belgium, with a hand by Gustav Eiffel. The church is made of METAL, steel beams, similar to the Eiffel tower, and Statue of Liberty. Bruce

  10. After playing with it for a day, the thing is pretty awesome. Sounds really clear and gets pretty loud. The wife used it all day in the kitchen. She's a happy camper

  12. You can find demos on the AVS forum. They basically are downloads then you have to burn your own discs. I have a bass demo one only with 8 clips but it's notching crazy special. I have a buddy who's big on AVS making me a new one soon. I can inquire about another one. They don't come cheap though as hey take a very long time to put together. I think the last one selling on AVS from user super Leo was like 60$ but it was top notch. If it were available I'd buy one tomorrow. That's how good it was.
