  2. Come on Shakey, that is a little presumptuous don't you think? But you are correct with "it can be done". A good source, with good amplification, driving good speakers, in a good room, will get it right. Bill

  3. I know it has been asked in the past, but I have searched to no avail. I am looking for a demo BLU RAY dvd that shows off the best attributes of home theater with some good video scenes plus select cuts from some good movies with a lot of LFE. I have seen a few on that auction place, but I am looking for some proven recommendations.

  4. Just got the Oppo 103D the other day (12-27-13) off of amazon. My first impression on the D part (darbee) is that it is a waste of money. I am using this on the HT in the sig. I played with the darbee on/off a few times and a certain points you could see doing a little something? I am going to say if you have a good receiver, TV and BRP the whole darbee part was a waste of my $100. As for the player itself I am happy with that. So far the things I like. Plays WAV on the USB. Any one know the max USB thumb drive you can use? Does Utube. Seems like it will play any type of CD. But one thing I really like is I have a 7.1 system and when I was using my PS3 and played a 6.1 BRD it did not send any sound to the rear surround. With the oppo it will force the the 6th track to both the rear surround. One thing I don't like is it does not do the Amazon videos. Already have it so there is no way I will pay for netflix also. I am really surprised how this thing is packaged. It is the kind of packaging you would expect when you paid $600 for it. And to boot it comes with a carry bag. Not sure I would ever use it however. Back to the Darbee. With my TV is seems useless. But may be it is designed to be used for crappy TV's? Or maybe poor source material like older DVD's? All I know is with my TV and a new Blu ray it seems pointless. Anyone have any real luck with the darbee doing something really good? I was thinking of putting my music on a 2 TB SSD drive and hook that up to the USB. Anyone tried this? Be nice to find out if this will work before I drop the money on the hard drive.

  5. Earlier this week on the way to work I received my third speeding ticket this year. Rather than blame the distance or my lack of time management. I'm choosing to lay sole blame on Paul Simon and his Graceland album. I have an incredibly large music collection but seem to really enjoy driving to 10 or 15 albums that I've ripped onto a jump drive to be played in my car. All three speeding tickets of occurred in San Diego County and listening to Graceland; obviously a bad combination! Driving home tonight at 12:45 in the morning on rocking out to Graceland, I decided to turn it off. With the silence, I dropped the speed down a bit. Now that I'm back home and fiddling with a gremlin in my 1 of personal systems, Graceland is lulling me to sleep. Oh my Klipsch and holiday brethren, beware of the power Graceland or any other music that gets your moving! Happy Holidays!

  6. any "Satchmo" fans out there? I am looking for info on a definitive collection on CD. I have a couple of Greatest Hits CDs, Plays W.C. Handy, Disney Songs the Satchmo Way, plus "Saints" & "Kiss of Fire" from other albums. But, the horns sound so good on my brand new, at least 3d hand La Scalas. Any CD recommendations?

  8. I don't see why they wouldn't put all their effort and money into making the balanced outputs sound as good as they can while eliminating the RCA's all together. Just throw a pair of XLR to RCA adapters in with the accessories in the box for those that need them.

  12. I keep thinking I'll have the one that bucks the trend........................................... Good morning Carl!! How long have you been married?? My mother in law is certifiably nuts, nasty disposition, a gossip, and is on meds and my wife who was extremely nice while we dated for 5.5 years gets more like her mother every year! She is now a hoarder and needs to be on meds and has picked up her mothers disposition not only with me but the kids also. She is also beginning to LOOK to much like her mother for my general sense of safety. It aint no joke! We would all date Amy in a second if we were single and she would have us, but I wouldn't marry her without a good hard look at her momma! Rog

  14. The used Radio Shark arrived in a padded envelope with nothing else; no manual, software, cords or anything. Finding information, manuals, software, etc. online was easy. Installing it on a laptop was somewhat challenging, as the available instructions and software are inconsistent and referred to screens and configurations that differed from what appeared. It didn't take too long to dope it out. Normally, the USB cable acts as the antenna. Using that, I was able to get barely adequate reception upstairs, but inadequate reception in the basement, where I'll use it to synch to the sports TV. At the suggestion of others on the Internet, I plugged my "rooftop" (actually in the attic) antenna into the headphone jack. Now I get good reception of the FM station that carries the Detroit Tigers' games and the AM station that carries Spartans' games. It was easy to synch the radio broadcast with the TV broadcast of the Lions' final failure. The device allowed me to delay the radio approximately 3 seconds to match the TV. When the referee announced the results of a challenge, the sound and picture were perfectly synchronized. Beginner's luck.

  16. I just got the OPPO 103D a few days ago. So far seems like a good player. But save a $100 and get just the 103. I don't see any benefit of the darbee. But then again i think the 103D has some 3D stuff the other does not. It compared to the cheap blu ray i had. The cheap one would not do 7.1 sound. It compared to the PS3. Off had one difference is when playing a 6.1 blu ray the ps3 would cut sound to the two rear surround speakers and the oppo forces that 6th channel to both rear surround in a 7.1 system. Just in general the more expensive ones will have a lot more video processing stuff.

  18. Some people are stubborn and don't care. Its only their way case closed. And thats fine but geez no reason to call people lazy just because they use eq. My cornwalls sound way better eq then no eq. I mean they eq when they record. They eq when they play live shows. They eq their instruments. Why would it all of a sudden stop in someone home lol. If the steak tastes better to you with steak sauce use it lol

  19. I started with a B&K pre for my 2ch. But it has no EQ so i got a emotiva umc-1. I like my B&K amp over the emo amp But the umc has a nice EQ and sounds a lot better than the B&K. The best part it cost me around 250 used on ebay. I was shocked how good it sounds. Really impressive. EQ is a band aid for people too lazy to put together a system that gets it right on it's own. It can be done. And thats a pretty rude statement by the way. Not cool

  21. If you descide to get the Nile SPK1 because it will work for what you want to accomplish, I have one brand new that I never unwrapped, but threw the box out. I will sell it for $50 plus shipping. I was going to do what you want to do, but I said screw it and bought a much better surround pre amp and I'm running four stereo amps to 7 speakers, Roger

  22. So 350 vs. 225 watts= 25.44 dbWatts vs. 23.52 dbWatts, a mere 1.9 db difference on peaks. I don't think you will hear the difference. You may smell the smoke from the voice coils however, as you will far into the thermal, non-linear power compression and distortion at that point. Time to bow out of this thread. ClaudeJ1, I already have one Nakamichi PA-7II on the center speaker and have never smoked a woofer yet. The PA-7 and the PA-7II both have the same signature sound. I like the build quality of the PA-7II better, but I like the Klip lights on the PA-7 as the PA-7II never had them. I don't Klip the Amp that way and I can turn the volume just past the 9 oclock position before I start to Klip the amp. The Klipsch PA-7 brings around $800 or so on eBay, while the PA-7IIs are bringing $1200 each. I guess it is about having the best and biggest Amp that Nakamichi put out. It also cost about $75 to ship one of these amps, so then I get it, Pay another $75 to ship it to a Nakamichi specialist, then pay about another $250 to get it recapped, realays cleaned and lubed and have the phase adjusted, then ship it back, so I also don't mind putting that much into tunning up a $1200 amp as dropping that into an $800-$850 amp. I've already done this to the PA-7II that I own, so I will have about $1675 in each amp times four amps or roughly $6700. Roger

  28. Why even consider stereo receivers if music is important. You could do much better with a good integrated or separates later on. Receivers are for the Best Buy crowd, be better than that. Shakey

  29. Tell her I want one too! J/K, but I did recently buy the Disney disc for calibration as well. Many reviews touted its user friendliness over that of the Munsil and Spears calibration disc. I like user friendly.
