  1. The good news is that Dan Dierdorf is retiring after tonight's game. The bad news is that far too many NFL sportscasters seemed to have graduated from the Dierdorf school of "hiney kissing". I certainly won't miss Dierdorf but I fear I'll think of him as I listen to half the boneheads calling the NFL Games. Hopefully a fair number of NFL Refs will call it quits after this season. Of course, maybe it's all the new rules but in all my years of watching pro football I have never seen so many stupid calls and no calls. It'd be great to see the Panthers and Broncos in the SB but I'll be watching as long as that gum-chewing nit-wit isn't on one of the sidelines!

  2. Over the past few years a problem has surfaced. That problem is my love for Klipsch speakers. From KG to the Reference series or the little Heresy that screams so loud and clear. Some stand ready in multiple rooms of my home ready to please my ears with sound while others are in closets ready to be called upon. My issue is that I continue to want a pair of La Scala speakers. I would have to possibly sale some of my current Klipsch to make room but I am willing to. Does anyone know of a local dealer of forum member in the Cincinnati area where I can audition these lovely speakers?

  3. Hard to beat the walnut, though I'm tempted to try a cherry on anything else I might get. My JBL 4311 speakers are walnut and still look pretty good after 40 years. My HIIs are black lacquer and the La Scalas are a nice Walnut stained birch. The black HIIs kinda disappear and goes with just about anything else. Currently they are sitting between my LS doing TV duty. Bruce

  4. They looked that way out of the box. Had them playing all day today. I've got them goin in the bedroom, cornwalls goin in the offce/cave and rf-7's goin in the living room--all grouped together on sonos. It's kinda cool walking through the house listening to the different Klipsch flavors.

  6. Very nice. Did you oil them up or are they really that shiny? They look as good as my custom rosewood H3s. I was cranking my pair yesterday. I put a new CD player in my main system and "trickled down" a nice Cambridge 640C to my H3 system. They were sounding good even without the sub running but really rocked when I fired up the sub. The sub takes them down a few more hertz for the music that needs a little more bottom end.

  7. Boom I can hardly bear to listen anymore. All I hear is cheerleading especially for the league. I used to think these guys were paid by the networks to call the games---to be broadcasters and analysts---but it always sounds as if their paychecks come straight from the league office.

  8. Hey, i had the same problem. i Had two sets of La Scala's, a pair of Belles, 2 sets of Heresy's and 3 sets of KG's. I sold them all at one time, and broke into the Cinema line. Best thing i ever did was let the others go...i loved them, but i like what i have now even more... i too also realized, all the spare speakers i had werent doing me much good.

  12. The F-20 is a super easy build and goes a little lower than a THT. If you stand it up against a wall with the mouth along the wall, it has a relatively small footprint (20x30") for a horn. 4 of those would equal at least 8 18's and can be built for less than a kilobuck. I'm just sayin'. For a Million Dollars, you could build 4,000 of them, but you would be really really busy for a long time. But you could entertain an entire metro area when your were done.

  13. Loudogp250, I live about 2.5 hours from Cici. If you are willing to travel that far, I think I can arrange an audition on some LaScalas and Klipschorns for you. My number is (419)-231-5494. Roger

  14. I'm know there are folks closer to you than where I am located, but you are welcome to stop in for a visit if you pass this direction (North Georgia just across the line from Chattanooga, TN). Bruce

  15. If you pulled the trim off the cabs and rolled them with a rough nap roller with flat black enamel, they'd look like a completely different speaker.

  17. Mike should give you a free sub ordering a full set like that also. See if you can talk him into a free sw-115? You never know and it doesn't hurt to ask.

  20. I haven't gotten to see as many games (4 or 5 maybe) as I'd like but I was actually thinking that the calls were getting a little better in general. Yes, there were some DOOOZYS such as watching an offensive guard step past the ball before it was hiked then stepping back... no flag... nothing. When I was a kid, a man on my paper route was a NFL referee and was constantly flying around the country for games. He had some good stories and was in a little bit of fear more than once after games.

  26. Yes, they sound good, but not that good. Non linear behavior with non linear speaker loads. Pleasant distortions by way of even order harmonics is what makes the "warm" sounding. Not a bad thing, but not worth the money. Been there done that with Mac, Marantz, HK Citation, Dynaco, Scott, etc................space heaters that need to have the bias babysat and tube replacment/matching. Not worth it for me, but obviously yes for others. Try chip amps. You should listen to some modern tube designs. Nothing like what you describe. Shakey You should listen to even more modern solid state designs like Class D. Listen to whatever you like, but just know that there are tube amps that can compete with SS amps at what they do best. Don't paint with such a broad brush. And like I said, there are some good sand amps that can give you a healthy dose of tube goodness, but don't quite make it all the way there. Shakey I painted with a fine, pointed brush. I'd like to see a tube amp do as good of a job at driving my DTS-10's or a "wall full of 18's" using tubes. Considering how many modern speaker setups use subs nowadays (greater than 50 percent, I suspect, so millions). But when you are looking go a GOOD 8-35 watts to drive an all horn system, tubes are wonderful, better yet when used just for mids and tweets with a solid state, high damping factor, amp on the woofer section, especially a DIRECT RADIATOR woofer section. If you truly want the best, you will have a bi-amped (passive or active) hybrid system. Best of both worlds, not just "tubes."

  29. Beautiful indeed. A word of caution. Once I was in the similar 'downsize' boat and felt compelled to go smaller than my beloved Khorns. I found that they were irreplaceable. I guess if $$$ is no object that there are some good prospects - but for this dime the Khorns deliver some excellent results. And those are some real beauts. As for me? I replaced my Khorns and made certain that wherever I live that there are corners and some volume. If we decide that we thrive on music then its reproduction should somewhat dictate where and how we live. My 0.02..............

  30. something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay... and not one penny more. if you try and sell a ferrari 312PB and no one wants it, it is not worth a damn thing. frankly, I dont see any draw to frodo on my la scala, nostalgia or not. I'd much prefer a new tasteful characterization of PWK on la scala on my new t shirt.
