  1. Khorns are irreplacable. On the wife thing: don't forget the tried and true method of reminding her that this is your only vice and it is relatively harmless. You could be doing worse things. Be sure and give a few examples of worse.

  6. Is this announcement going to be relatively soon? Depends on your definition of soon. As engineer, I can gurantee two things that Klipsch and Co. cannot avoid, like all companies: 1) Murphy's Law Corrolary #48: "Everything takes longer than it takes." 2) During the design phase of any project, we must, at some point, shoot the engineers and start production!!

  9. Nice score ! Those were my first Klipsch bought them new in 1994 and I still love them ,although I let one of my daughters borrow them about a year ago and she has since informed me I am never getting them back. Mine (or hers) are still mint and I'll probably let her keep them because she and her friends really enjoy them and more importantly they respect them. Any how GREAT Deal on some great speakers !

  12. Hello everyone and Happy Holidays! I've been looking for a while for stands-2-3 feet in height-for my Klipsch Heresys with no luck. I don't want to spend a fortune on these-$100 or less each and WAF is important. My Klipsch have the square risers underneath them which are 12" by 12". Any advice appreciated!

  15. Woot! Woot! Two houses ago I made the PAW (Perfect Audiophile Wife) this proposition: Must have a room for my 'horns. ALL other considerations are YOURS. As I knew she had good taste, absolutely nothing to fear and everybody happy. Plus, I didn't have to worry over anything except verifying the 'horn space. Nice. No way a marriage can be good when one tromps on another's happy place. Dave

  18. That's the heaviest template I've ever seen but if that's what you had laying around, it looks like it worked well. I would suggest to future builders to use a 1/4 or 3/8 hardwood underlayment to save their back. Looking good, I had a great time building mine and it's really a simple build so you get to see results quickly. Get er done!

  24. The only thing wire can do is to degrade the signal that flows through it. Well designed cables damage the signal less than poor designs. We can measure all of the characteristics of a cable that pertain to it's ability to carry the signal that it is designed to carry. A perfect cable would have zero capacitance, zero inductance, zero resistance, zero dielectric absorption and would be constructed so that outside electrical interference would not impact the signal the cable carries. Of course the perfect cable cannot be made. The materials we have to work with will cause it to have capacitance, inductance, resistance, and dielectric absorption. Various methods of construction will cause variations in a cable's capacitance, inductance, and resistance. For example, spacing the conductors of a two wire cable will decrease the cable's capacitance while increasing it's inductance with the resistance remaining the same in either case. Because of these factors designing a cable is a balancing act that involves compromises. What the designer needs to do is to first consider what the cable is to be used for. With audio we are dealing with relatively low frequency alternating current at relatively low voltage levels and with home audio the lengths of cable that are needed are fairly short, usually tens of feet at the most. This relieves the designer from needing to consider things like transmission line effects and losses that are important at radio frequencies and higher. Because of the short cable lengths involved with home audio setups the amount of capacitance, inductance, and resistance is fairly low. So low that there should be no effect on an audio signal in the case of a well designed cable. However, the cable is used between two pieces of equipment. There could be certain combinations of impedances from the equipment that would result in a small measurable effect that would change when the cable was changed. Please note that although the effect can be measured it would not be audible to humans in most cases. The cable would have to be intentionally designed to have capacitance, inductance, and resistance high enough to greatly damage the signal so as to have significant audible effects. The cable used between a CD transport and a DAC is another matter because it is carrying a digital signal in the megahertz range. That doesn't mean that it needs to be expensive. Ordinary coaxial cable is better than good enough in this application. Don't use a cable designed for analog as a digital cable as it can cause audible ill effects. When reading the ads from a cable company beware if they start talking about: because they are conning you. Good cable design has everything to do with minimizing: in the audio signal because those are the attributes which lower distortion and increase clarity.

  27. It's all relative to what you value. When I see 3-way speakers with pro drivers selling for $100,000/pair at the "high end" shows, driven by Six $10,000 monoblock amplifiers, it make me wanna gag. As soon as I was established at my first job out of college, I took out a loan to get a pair of Klipschorns and a LaScala center channel to allow a broader sound stage, just like the Klipsch Papers recommended. Per PWK's urgings, I also joined the Audio Engineering Society. Cost was about $2,200 with tax. Adjusted for inflation, that would be about $9,000 in today's dollars. Now keep in mind that these were the "ghetto Khorns" (dealer's term for them), KCBR, they were the "C" style, plain vanilla, raw Birch, which are not longer available. It would have cost me about 50% more to get Walnut Khorns and Belles, even more for exotic woods, no longer available. So adding 50% to my inflation adjusted figure, would be about $13,500 or $3,300 when I was just a kid. All my friends thought I was nuts to spend that much on speakers while they bought Camaros. Their cars were in the rust pile after 5 years, while I had my Khorns for over 30 until I upgraded. So it's not that brand new Khorns and LaScalas, in matching finish, are that expensive, it's PRECISELY the fact that the money your are buying them with these day's isn't worth as much. The price of Khorns has NEVER gone up, it's the money that got cheap!!

  29. Our local news station just reported that 1200 B'ham area kids spent the night at their schools last night. Could you imagine taking care of a classroom full of say 1st graders overnight? Most of those kids have probably never spent the night away from home. What a ordeal.

  31. Screaming deal there 'J', if I was 2500 miles closer this would be a done deal. You will have little problem selling them for that kind of scratch. If however your future plans include moving out west, maybe we could work something out.

  33. I see it because it needs done. Crites puts out the most logical for the cost and is honest to a T so you really cannot go wrong. On top of that the work he does they work great. They always sound so much better. With Dean i'd love to have him do work for me but im broke and i feel like i'd be cheating on Bob. Dean is cutting edge and i'v seen his work as complete works of art. Iv seen some of Deans work and would litterally hang them on the wall. And o yeah the functionality of Deans work is supreme. I have some networks sitting around i use as art in my studio. Crites is the standard of perfection and Dean will open your ears beyond what many thought was even possible. diy is nice although working with the top dealers in the business results in lifetime support and they have the numbers in their mind or very close by

  34. I have almost "upgraded" more than once but truthfully I am very pleased with the RS-35's. The RS-52's would not be that much of a difference and the RS-62's are just too big(WAF) for my family room. I will keep my eyes peeled for you. Good luck in your quest, Bill

  35. I find jazz, and classical better on the two channel setup and heavy bass music on the HT. yes i agree. i have about 1500 cds which range from gospel to rap and everything is listened to on tubes xept rap mainly to use bassdrivers. my fiance runs all powered monitors right now and she listens to all her music on some audio technica cans lol

  37. Thes are Skylan Stand stands which ar 21"" tall not including the spikes under braced and damped Heresy 3, bass is excellent. Mid horn is at my seated ear height stage and image are also exellent. The tweeter horns of these speakers are now living up on top of the cabinets and are aligned with the mid horn. The stand collums are mass loadable and in this case on a concrete floor they are filled with sand. You would want to use much less damping /mass on a suspended floor. Hope this is of interest, best regards Moray James.

  39. Hey everyone, We are running a Q&A right now with Klipsch Industrial Designer Scott Smith. He is specifically talking about the Jamo Torsten in the Q&A but he is more than willing to answer your general questions as well. Scott is involved heavily in almost all KGI passive speaker designs. The Q&A is running on the Jamo Facebook page: https://www.facebook...&type=1 If you have a Facebook account, please ask the questions there. If not, fire them away right here in these snazzy new forums and we'll make sure Scott gets to them!
