I have about half of the bass bin sealed up on each speaker. The windows and ledge in my room just isn't going to let me easliy get a 100% seal. I couldn't find 2" so I picked up some 1/2" and 1" pipe insulation and doubled it up. I might be able to get another layer of 1" pipe insulator on there, but at that point, who knows if it is even beneficial? I may end up tacking on some plywood to the bass bin on the area over the window and / or building on to the cabinet to get a seal on the wall or just going with the false wall setup. I will probably need to take them downstairs to the theater room and hook them up in a proper corner first to just see if it is even worth all the trouble. I ended up just going with the cheap-o felt pads on the bottom, which should be just fine. The crossovers will get a proper cleaning once I get new caps from Crite. They do sound a tad hollow, so I am quite sure they will benefit from fresh caps. Even so, these speakers are absolutely incredible. The sound is almost hard to believe. It is going to be a fun year listening to all my music again and hearing some new details. Of course, this all gets me thinking about selling out my RF gear and moving to heritage for the theater down the road. Do Hersey make good surrounds?2 points

I stopped watching years ago. I did not even know who was playing till i saw this thread, I remember team efforts built upon principles, Now its all who can afford the next flash in the pan in an attempt to buy a victory. Over the last couple years if i get an urge to see whats going on all i have to do is watch 5 minutes of any game and i get disgusted all over again. some of the new rules kill the excitement of the game watching a ref review a play for 10 minutes to tell us the ball bounced off Bob's *** which kept it in play so Williams could fumble it but he's no longer eligible to recover the ball because his shoe lace came untied I don't mean to get off on a rant here Wheres Dennis Miller when you need him2 points

Thank you dtel Hello my ol' Friend, the folded bass bin horn is AMAZING. I was skeptical at first (prior to purchase) after finding out about the SMALL rectangular hole in the back of bin. I don't fully understand how this design can possibly make such good sound, But it DOES!!! no argument Rock on Dennie I can only hope it's enough miner The narrow slot in front of the La Scala woofer increases the airspeed at the start of the bass horn, and allows a regular cone driver to act like a compression driver. Horn speakers have a lot of sophisticated engineering, which is not always obvious when you're looking at a pair of black-painted plywood boxes. Congrats on your new speakers and happy listening!2 points

I've had them since '88. Bought them new from a local dealer. I had them sitting idle for the most part of the last 10 years while I played audiophile. Sad really and I hope you all can forgive me. I had them in service for a few years as background music and now they are back where they belong as the star of the system. I've always loved them and I'm really glad I didn't sell them when I was chasing some audiophile fantasy. I just knew something was suppose to be so much better. I mean everyone was telling me they were mid-fi at best and I needed some "good" speakers if I wanted to be taken seriously. Ok, enough fun. I've come to my senses and am enjoying music again with them and that's all good. I've got a question or two. The forte's are original and stock. I had to replace a tweeter diaphram on one of them and I sourced that from Klipsch. I am not interested in updating or modding them but they do have 26 year old crossovers and I would like to know if there is anywhere recommedable that woud be able to check them. I believe Klipsch actually use to do this. Man, i wish they still did because I'd load them up and take them there. So, any suggestions. Also, since I'm enjoying them so much and I'm not interested in modding/updating maybe I just shouldn't worrying if the crossovers are within spec? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Hello to all, I am new to the forum and this is my first post. I need some advise on which vintage Klipsch speakers to shop for. My budget is some what flexible, but lets say around 500.00 My listening area is the garage, 20x25 with concreet floor and insulated walls. The system I use now consists of RF-82 (mains) SB-3 (seconds) Marantz 2230 with a Rotel RB1092 power amp jacked into the pre outs, then a Dual 1219 TT thats run threw a Little Bear RIAA (chines) tube phono stage. Overall I like the sound I have now, but I'm curious about the sound of the vintage Klipsch. I'm looking for a large sound stage with thumping bas and bright highs, I mostly spin classic rock. Thanks for any advise you all can give. Kirk1 point

Funny enough, the lady knew what she had. I got them from a manager for a storage unit. She said the speakers had been sitting in storage for at least 10 years (I would say 15 - 20 from the amount of dust they had collected). She said she listed them a couple of times 5 years ago and someone contacted her from the east coast off an internet forum just to tell her what she had and tried to work a deal to ship them (probably a Klipsch forum nut!). She didn't say how much she had them listed for but she didn't get any takers locally and wasn't willing to crate them up. Now she just needed to get rid of them so they can rent the unit out again. I am going back tomorrow before I fly out to work, this lady said she has a whole unit full of pristine vinyl all boxed up she wants to get rid of.1 point

Have complete data on source material, playback chain, etc? Without it, this is hearsay. I'd say there are far more examples of well engineered material where this would be true than not. I mentioned specifically extremely complex material...the difference between a Boesendorfer and a Steinway grand or an Amati and a Stradivarius. Claude, there are people out there who can not only tell you the difference between a Strad and another great violin, they can tell you WHICH Strad they are listening to and who is playing it. I am not one of these. A true test would require a LOT of experiments and would need to concentrate on highly trained ears, not guys like you and I. It's never a good idea to generalize from the specific. Very bad medicine... Dave1 point

I have a MC 275 Mk VI and am falling in love with it more and more every day. My speakers aren't quite as efficient as Khorns but does a great job. I would imagine it would be spectacular with yours. I like the MC275 Mk VI so much I have two! Saving my pennies for a C500T to go with.1 point

Long ago I worked in L.A. for a company headquartered in Boulder. This was the era of the Raiders and Elway/Broncos. Now I did not follow football at all. But, I still had to endure daily jibes from all the corporate execs about that rivalry. They'd call special just to grind the football axe and I could care less (which bothered them even more). Soured me on the Broncos big-time. Now I live in the Pac Northwest. All that said - I still think that the Broncos have the better team. No 12th man weighting either team in NY. I think the win belongs to Peyton and my old corporate nemesis - the Orange Crush - bleechhh!1 point

If the same wood, no worries, it will look great as a center. I still cannot believe this deal, you did awesome and your room will work well. Post more pics when you can. BTW, how many D batteries does that light up dog statue take? Looks really lifelike, but kind of creepy.1 point

hi, welcome, im new here too but am a long time klipsch owner. IMO, i would go with the fortes, hands down. they are not too big like the KLF & have a much better sound than any of the gold woofer stuff today, not that some big expensive rf-7's aren't a good speaker, but for the price you cant beat the heritage line. fortes, chorus, etc. lots of people like the klf-30 & 20's but they are very large, & can have known box problems (boxes rattle up loud due to poor build) nothing sounds like the older heritage series, or even the KG series like kg 4.5 & 5.5 etc. basically a 2 way version of the klf 20's. that ebay link to the klf 20's are a good price if they dont have issues. your onkyo receiver will be plenty of good power for any of the ones you listed, obviously there are higher quality components & seperates etc, but for you budget, stick with the onkyo for now, i run onkyo receivers for home theater & 2ch. my forte 1's on a 90wpc onkyo 605 are down right amazing. i listen to good rock music too & they do everything quite well, bass, mid & silky smooth highs. not sure where you are located but i have a very nice pair of oak kg 5.5's for sale. they have dual 10" woofers & a tractrix mid/tweet, they sound great for music & home theater & cant be beat for the price. asking $450 but price is a little negotiable. i am in iowa. havent posted them here yet but they are on craigslist. good luck in your search!1 point

Okay everyone, level with me. Why isn't anyone interested in trying this? Where is the curiosity that really is the thing that drives our hobby? The goal is seeing if I can increase your pleasure in listening. Sure, I might make a little bit of money, but is that idea really so offensive, I mean, people recommend other equipment to each other here (which drives up sales for companies like Oppo, Emotiva, etc.). This is an opportunity to try something unique for very little money, and people around here used to jump on stuff like this. Did I offend, is it because I used entry level capacitors, or something else. It would great hearing the reasons, even if they involve a butt chewing.1 point
