I'm looking at a auction that has 4 MWM's, 2 MSM's, and MSSM's for sale. I have a couple questions about these speakers that I was hoping some of you may be able to answer. The speakers are the stage version coming with handles. The speakers all work but I won't have a chance to hear them in person. The cabinets are in decent shape. 1) What is a fair price for these speakers. I expect I can pick these up for under 500 which I assume is a decent price. I also have to factor in $200 for me to pick them up. 2) Will I need to source the MTM's. From what I've seen these are part of the MCM, which is what these are? 3) Are these good sounding speakers (hard to find much on them) I have the reference series in my living room and really enjoy the Klipsch sound and wouldn't mind having these in my basement if its worth it. We have Grande Communications for internet and phone. My son saw an ad on TV for a deal. I called and was offered an increase in speed with a $10 per month discount but during the discussions I was disconnected. I looked over and the internet was down (as was VoIP). I called back and the lady offered not $10 but $40 per month off; no charges just increase of speed, no contract. I simply told them I was shopping for a better deal! Now we get this so it never hurts to ask (and be nice)

I didn't suggest there was. PWK was a scientist, and a fine one. However, he was also a realist. His tests were done to see if they were missing anything because neither they, nor anyone they'd demo'd for from Moscow to Kokomo was hearing any problems that might be traced to the sudden furor created by the wire purveyors about the impact of fine copper rubbed on the breasts of blonde virgins vs. lamp cord. The objective tests simply conformed to what they were hearing...nothing. As to any changes in practice in the 80s, you are correct about "hedging your bets." PWK would have eventually said "Hell, if a few bucks worth of fancy cable sells more K'horns, knock yourselves out." But I remain assured he never changed his mind. Dave

To put the shoe on the other foot, if a stranger shows up on your doorstep with a Beretta/Sig/Glock on his hip, with an AR15 or AK slung over his shoulder, asking to see your La Scalas, would you give him a hearty handshake and invite him in? "It's good to meet another safety-minded individual. C'mon in!" I think that would call for more trust than I could summon up.

All this talking guns is kinda fun, but I have never had to pull a pistol, point rifle or shotgun at anyone. That said both my wife and I do sleep armed due to past threats.

Epsons are fine. They are very bright and can be used in rooms where ambient light can be an issue. If you don't mind getting a used piece of equipment, I would recommend a JVC from 2008 - present.

The biggest improvement in your or anyone's system will be adding subwoofer

Are you by any chance getting the klf-30's here in Kansas City? If so you can swing by my place in the way home and hear what some different subs sound like. I have the four 18's downstairs and two tapped horn subs upstairs.

The argument in favor of the addition of a subwoofer is, more often than not, content driven. However, the single most reason I use a component subwoofer is because of the acoustic problems it solves when correctly deployed.

Traded M1 Garand for my La Scalas; still have a bunch of M14 mags & ammo; but I sold the M1A, can't see good enough anymore.

Just because you add a sub doesn't necessarily mean it will automatically sound better. All subs are not created equal. You can have a high end sub and have it cranked up way too high and it not sound good because it's not blended. To me, the goal of a sub is to provide effortless support of the bottom end but do it seamlessly to where it does not draw attention to itself unless you turn it off. When calibrated right, I think they help any system, no matter how large the speakers are.

Sig226 - 357mag then on to the SoCom scout 308(my new toy). AR 15 with 90 round drum or AK47 with 75 round drum and about 15 30 round mags before I need to go to UZI. Not at all worried.

Glock holds 15 in the mag, 1 in the chamber, another 2 mags on the other hip. Not really worried as I plan to go to his house. So I will know where he lives. I paid $750 for the pair I bought for my son. I did get a reply. "The La Scala's are older ('70") speakers but are in great shape. All drivers work as they should. The crossovers were rebuilt last year with all new SoniCaps per Bob Crites, the expert for Klipsch. The grills for the horns are like new. The black could use a new coat of paint but they are quite presentable as is. The price is firm....they're easily worth it. They are currently tucked away in my warm dry basement and it is a bit difficult to move them around. I'll see if I can get some pics for you. Roger" He did send one picture. Really? What about the entire octave that even Klipschorns don't handle. I've a number of recordings with material at 16.5 Hz. Hard to call it "high fidelity" if you aren't hearing the low "C" at all. Definitely depends on one's musical interests, IMHO. Dave

Nobody needs a subwoofer but once you have one (a good one anyways) its hard to go without. If it sounds good to your ears keep it if not an upgrade would not be out of line. The KSW 10 may add a little low end but it more than likely just mudds things up more than it helps. Its your ears, better if you decide what sounds better to you.

Carl, set them up in a 6ft triangle, toes in at 45degrees, 1-2ft from the wall and see what you think.

There's been a bit of a good old fashioned Klipsch Klash in the "Cable Myths..." thread regarding "accuracy." This was settled years ago...nearly 40...for me in my first hunt for a serious set of speakers. I was in my last year of the Army at Fort Bliss (now THERE is an oxymoron if ever I saw one!) and my wife got a good job. Time for an upgrade to my system! At the time, I had Frazier Super Monte Carlos (still have them) and a Dynaco SCA-35 (wish I'd kept it). Nice, but as a pipe organ freak even them I needed MORE. Spent quite a few visits to a very comprehensive audio store and it came down to Rectilinear V or an ESS with Heil Motion Transformer at about the same price. That's where I learned about the "flavors" of accuracy. The ESS shimmered, sparkled, and demanded attention. On the same material, the Rectilinear seemed slight more distant but warm and mellow. The ESS was more exciting. After a LOT of vacillation I purchased the Rectilinears which served me well for 20 years. So...RF or Heritage? It was the mention of Cornwalls as a possibility that reminded me of the above story. Cornwalls are very accurate...but they aren't "listen to me dammit in your face" accurate. That's how I've perceived the RF line in general. One might say if you have a listening room with bright colors, abstract paintings, and such you MIGHT be an RF sort of person. If your listening room has leather, dark woods, and crown molding (and on rare occasion a hint of cigar smoke) you MIGHT be a Heritage guy. I say all the above tentatively and conceptually as there will be as many exceptions as those who get it. As with any choice of musical genre, volume levels, and such there is no "wrong" answer but one can be influenced by others to make a wrong choice. Just because you may find the writing qualities, technical savvy, and depth of experience of some here absolutely overwhelming does NOT mean their opinions are right for you. Listen, consider, weigh the benefits, make a "Ben Franklin" table of pros and cons, but most of all LISTEN and go with what works for you. The benefit will be decades of bliss and your occasional bout of "jonesin" for this or that will be based on a simple "Me WANTS the precious..." as opposed to being unhappy with what you have. Dave

You need to work on your craigslist skills. Don't haggle until you're face to face, and certainly don't throw price statistics in the seller's face via email. Show up ready to take and pay full price, haggle from there. Handling other things in life perhaps, however I like to do my research, and say it like it is. in this deal the wife and I would both be taking Monday off, diesel expense, motel, and likely a casino or two, this trip could cost around 5 bones on the cheap, so yeah im going to take a shot and really don't care. I am always shopping for a La Scalla deal, and it WILL happen just like my last 60+ deals.....thanx for your input.

the more I look at it, the more I am convinced they are two different speakers... maybe one is a HIP?
