  2. I have come to really appreciate what Becker and Fagen can do. The arrangements are incredible, the recordings should be the templates on how to record, and need I mention dynamic range. These guys will never be accused of scaling down for the digital era. I picked up a "Two Against Nature" CD about two months ago and just ordered the "Aja" CD from Amazon for $4.99 which came with an MP3 download from Amazon Cloud Player. If the Aja CD is at least as good as the MP3 download, then I know I am in for a treat. I converted the MP3 with dBpoweramp(free trial) to LAME MP3 at 320kbs. I compared it to an also converted WAV copy and could not tell the difference. When the CD arrives, I will rip it also in WAV and LAME MP3 and A-B them. Steely Dan's music has become my go to demo music to show off and test my gear, in 2-channel and multichannel. Bill

  6. Have been a fan for a very long time. You need to give Supertramp a good listen too, there's just certain music that sounds fantastic with Klipsch/Horns and those are two of them.

  7. wondering if maybe I need a DAC as well? When listening to Pandora or Radio stations on-line, I simply run a patch from headphone jack on computer to RCA input on the pre-amp. DO I NEED A "DAC" TOO??? A DAC will improve upon the sound direct from your computers headphone jack, I just went thru this as i listen to only lossless from my computer thru headphones. My issue is now that how much differrent can the different DAC chips sound. It looks to me like alot of what you pay for in a DAC is options IE... how many different types of connections are avail. for someone looking to jusst play pandora and the like from there computer i would suggest a USB DAC they can be had relatively cheap and are a substantial improvement over sound cards. of course the bit rate of the source will also affect the quality of the sound from your system If anyone here on the forum wants to try a USB DAC i have just upgraded mine and so i have a Schiit Modi DAC just setting here and would loan it out, This way you can get an idea of improvement without spending anything except shipping Here are the particulars on the DAC i would loan http://schiit.com/products/modi

  9. The trick with the Heritage line is to read the Dope from Hope , and the Bell Labs Symposium for Auditory Perspective from start to finish...then connect the dots. It's the instruction manual for the entire line. Heritage are an engineer's speaker. They require a degree of technical savvy on part of the owner. They will not reward the user who does not understand the vision, or strays too far from it. The old man knew this, and that's why he and his associates wrote the publications which layout out the basics. Follow the rules. There are a lot of them. Respect the fact that many pieces are 10-45 years old, and will require some form of service (not necessarily modification) to stay true to their original sound. You won't hear me complaining about the 400 or 401 horns anytime soon. I respect the work that went into their design and implementation. In the big picture, they are a solution I can most certainly live with.

  11. These are all sold now (see the Peach for sale ) New price on the Jolida Sitting in my office at work, unused since I took the KG-1.5s home. Very few hours but the amp's tubes have been scratchy since new so I am asking a little less (I think) in order for new owner to pick up some new EL-84s. I have the boxes, remotes, etc. FX10 $275 Sony Tuner $200.00 Sold Buyer pays shipping from 78418. Sample pic as of today from iPad

  12. These rare CF-1's sound great, and are physically about a 6 out of 10. There is the unfortunate glass ring on top of 1 speaker. One of the Klipsch badges is missing. The KV-1 also sounds great and is about a 7 of 10. I would like to get $250 or best cash offer for the CF-1's and $50 or best offer for the KV-1. Located near Biloxi, MS. Willing to meet within a reasonable distance. Could ship the KV-1.

  16. The Modi DAC is new to me but so far I really like. It has me considering buying my an HRT like I had and just using it for me main rig. (It being powered by the USB Buss is a plus). I have seen 1st issues raised by multiple grounding schemes. Some powered DACs ground, some don’t… like CD players. The self powered DACs and older Redbook DACs tend to be rock solid performs. The Gen 2 DACs are great sounding but sometime fickle. Regarding sound quality. I won’t use my soundcard directly as it can be prone to a great deal of noise. The Modi DAC is great… You can’t beat its build quality, sound, or ease of use for the price. It’s as nice a piece as my HRT was, though much more shelf friendly as all connections are on the rear. The HRT did provide LED info which was nice though. I do prefer my Emotive for the added convince features, but wonder if I’m missing the point as well. The Modi gets me 85% of the way there… enough to be really happy and doesn’t require a plug… a serious upside when considering I have my TT, DAC, power conditioner, integrated, mac mini, external drives… bla, bla, bla. The 2nd system is DIY SS Pre, SE amp of choice, Logitech Bluetooth adapter and Modi dac. I may try the Modi DAC in my main rig and see if I can hear the diff… 1 input for emotive, 1 for Modi… all into itunes with Amarra. The question for me is to go with Amarra Symphony or not.

  20. OK, if you go to Havana, there are wonderful cigars, sold by street vendors, for a Peso. A bottle of Rhum is also a Peso; but, you have to supply the empty bottle, to be re-filled.

  22. Headphones have there place in audio, they do thing a free air speaker cannot, However speakers do things headphones cannot IE...Soundstage.., If you are like me now with no space and no money for a full stereo setup, and poor hearing Headphones can fill the gap nicely Carlooch, I will never let a poor experience with a lone nut change me or how i deal with people, This forum is the only place i would make that offer, I have learned tons here and have met nothing but good people, (even the one person i crossed swords with a few times, turned out we became cool with one another and i drove to vermont and bought his K-Horns)

  26. The word is a misnomer, kind of like "accurate". The word means a system that can be used to establish or validate the accuracy of reproduction of other systems. I'm getting old and tired, and I just want the sound to draw me in and take me away. Since I'm so stressed and don't usually feel all that well, I now use music to help me go to sleep -- I'm going to have a real hard time sending that little 3 wpc SEP amp back to Justin. There are a lot of "reference" kind of things that generate the complete antithesis of what I like.

  28. Very likely improvement. You're now hearing via the computer's internal DAC, and even a Mac's DAC isn't as good as, for example, a Dragonfly (the only one I've heard). This is exactly how im feeding my preamp, and the the wifes system also, with volume all the way down you can hear the movement of the mouse on the pc. Iv been studying up on all these units and then polking around on craigs , and man-o-man there are a lot for sale.

  32. Looks simple enough. I like this too. It's a sweet tube DAC. I've had a couple forum members over who've heard it and liked it as well.

  33. Someone posted a thread maybe a year or two ago, on his comparison of several DACs. I think he liked the "MyDAC" but am not sure. Perhaps a search will turn it up.

  37. Everyone is looking for the sleek form factor. WAF is an issue as well(but you can always get a new wife) Heresy is a great little speaker(it is little). IMO there is nothing nicer that a great big 402 in your living room. When your horns are bigger than your TV, your know your good.

  43. I'm glad that Klipsch makes the mass products that they do, so they can afford to keep the heritage and palladium around (and this forum) around. $180M is annual sales is tough to maintain selling Heritage only.

  44. We are getting ready to launch an complete new line of R.... oh, crap, I'm probably not supposed to say anything yet. Rest your fears. This is the year of copper. We're not going anywhere. Either is the Heritage line.
