I have enjoyed my music via headphones, they give you something that speakers don't, but I would say they are like masturbation and a speaker system is like sex with a partner. Headphones are satisfying and you're In complete control. Listening in a room via speakers can make things difficult but how could you pass it up to just masturbate?3 points

It's early. Only six weeks into 2014. But it is time to start nominations for post of the year. By the end we will have a consensus winner. I will start it out with two strong contenders: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/147347-the-three-things-that-suck-most-about-the-beatles/page-7#entry1694021 Thebes--for best use of a visual aid that makes us laugh while still making a point. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/147347-the-three-things-that-suck-most-about-the-beatles/page-6#entry1693788 Boxx---for best illustration of a previous post.2 points

Not sure how many fans are out there, but to me this guy was damn good. Irish guitar blues at its best. His guitar work remind me of Stevie Ray Vaughan and I mean that as a complement to both of them. He was born two years after Clapton and 6 years before Stevie. This cat could play. Just curious if I am the only one. Shame he basically drank himself to death.2 points

France after D-Day: Astonishing online archive of pictures shows the horror, devastation and moments of humanity in the aftermath of the liberation by Allied forces. There are 3 on audiogon right now also I have no comparison other than the Schiit Modi, but according to all the reviews etc the uber analog card is a significant step up, Mine is the Uber and i can say it is a very analog sounding DAC, which makes me very happy2 points

Thanks for all the well wishes guys. By request, here they are in their new home. They are in a small room and very close to nearfield listening. As you can see, Khorns would not be a good fit in there. They sound great -- not quite as good as Khorns but not that far off to be honest. I'm very pleased. Here is what will be powering them:2 points

The KG x.x speakers are undervalued. I have several and like them. $150 is a steal.2 points

Talked with them a couple of weeks ago. BB - two of them are working and two aren't. That's what the owner said. Still, $150 for that much thump.2 points

OK so I bit the bullet on a recent job in Orlando and bought two pairs of La Scala's there. It has been a long time dream of mine to have some and now I have two pairs. But here is my question. I have looked through the various forums here and I have not found a single thread that talks about what to do for basic things to check on these. I have found for instance comments about making sure things are screwed in and lots of comments about crossovers and tons of ways to spend money but no single thread on the ABC's of it all. What I would like to know is how do do basic maintenance on these to eliminate any simple problems that do not cost money but are important. Without any electronic testing devices is it possible to verify that components are working right? The AL crossover in the 80"s model sounds much better than the AA crosover in the 70"s model and all I read here contradicts this so I presume there are problems. So, you have just bought that old set of La Scalas. What do you do when you get them home to make them right? I played Broadsword by Jethro Tull yesterday and the bass and drums just reach right out physically impact you and the louder the better. I had chill bumps listening to this. It is a good thing I live way out in the country.1 point

I auditioned a Schiit Bifrost this weekend. Compared to the DAC in my Emotiva umc-1 there was a pretty big difference. I did side by side, A/B'd them. The price is right on it too I'd say. Im leaning in that direction its gotten great reviews and is compared to units at far higher prices.1 point

Certainly a little shy of your 500 to 1000 budget in the first post Every one here got me thinking, see what I can find to prove my theory, of, "this is what I need" So what better way than set out to find anything on the cheap, Paradyne was closed today, Good thing it turns out. For $34 bucks iv proved a DAC is indeed worth every penny, software that came with it included a Full Equalizer and surround 7.1 set up. Amazing little device really. The big thing here is not only do I know what to do, the wife knows too! I thank everyone for their input, thinking about that LiL Dragonfly is what got me thinkin. Fourm guys win!1 point

Type A late 60's thru early 70's. Type AL-3 1989 thru 2001 to keep up with driver changes.1 point

@ fry's picked up a little plug in device SIIG USB Soundwave Pro, $34 bucks just for the heck of it. This little critter plugs into the USB and the 1/8 headphone/preamp feed comes right out the back side. Powered by the USB I figure, well, the system static coming from the sound card has just got to get a little better. Cured 95% of the noise, crystal clear audio, holy cow $34 bucks! You can dam sure bet im lookin into at least a couple of $200+ units, I say couple because the wife just heard mine.1 point

The Yamaha amp will work however if you have the Danley's to get the full potential it is best to invest in a good amp. I have 3 TH118's and was running them with Crown xti's and they sounded good but when I got the Crown iTech the bass was much cleaner sounding and went to another level of sound. It's like putting regular fuel in a Ferrari .1 point

My understanding was this wasn't much of an issue except on DD turntables. There was some hum when I used the Signature on my Rotel, but I don't recall it being so pronounced on the VPI. However, point taken... The Ortonfon 2M Black looks like a candidate. User reviews are uniformly 5 star and the price, while "highish" remains in my comfort zone, if at the edge. Dave1 point

just a suggestion on checking the mid and tweeter drivers, I have never tried the dish towel method but i have used either a paper towel or toilet paper roll (the cardboard roll in the center) hold that up to the individual drivers and it will be immedeiately evident weather that driver is working properly I have seen countless threads where someone didnt realize they had a tweeter issue Welcome1 point

"Vintage Klipsch La Belle speakers ! Excellent condition ! - $2750" Excellent condition? - Not quite, I have seen excellent. With something on the grills, the chew places on the wood and stock Xovers, $2750 might be a little bit high. He has them perfectly placed for sound imaging. He can call them La Belle Corner Horns.1 point

I ask my wife to remind me of stuff sometimes, that's about as effective as peeing in the wind. i wasn't sure if my doctor's appointment was at 2:00 or 3:00--so i showed up at 2:00. while i was checking in, i told the receptionist that i couldn't remember what time the appointment was--she said, "it was 3:00." i thanked her for taking me in early and she said, "it was at 3:00 YESTERDAY." They are kind to me there. I have profound hearing loss and pre-hearing aids, I was in the waiting room and the nurse called a name--nobody got up so i figured it must be me that she called. While she's taking my blood pressure, i'm looking at the chart and i ask, "why does the chart have the name George?" She said, "I stood at the waiting room door and called out for George (can't recall the last name) and you came." I wonder if Old George was getting any good meds?1 point

10 watts would be 110 db. 100 watts would be 120db. 1000 watts would be 130db. The overhead wattage will give you the peaks you want when listening at high rms. The smaller amp would not. I think you are making the right choice.1 point

Y'know.......... I'd think that any manufacturer that sells retail would see the connection between a vibrant economy and their own bottom line. Granted these forums are not the best places to discourse on such controversial topics. Still they are interconnected. This hobby requires a certain degree of disposable income as well as the dedication and the interests. So the churning of related issues is not all that untoward. Political decisions are being made that impact all of us and Klipsch as well. And, generally speaking, if the country wants to provide social support systems a la Sweden, etc............. fine so be it. Then, like Sweden, etc...... we cannot be the worlds policeman either. There are only so many dollars to go around without having to leverage them against future incomes.1 point

I feel the need to love the neighbors all year round. That does not mean I have not Pissed Off the Neighbors a time or two. I have to admit I have apologised to the neighbors more then once. And may feel the need in the future. We have given food to some kids that were still living in their house after their dad died until they moved. Nobody around here needs to go hungry. We have let a school age person in to use the phone to call home because the bus did not come, then my wife gave her a ride home when her stepmother would not come get her. We were having freezing weather and she had waited for the bus for over an hour and was certainly cold. I have been over to the neighbors in the middle of the night more then once to check on suspicious activity. No complaints about the pistol sticking out of my pocket, but a hand shake as I left. We look out for each other around here. We are not perfect. In fact far from it. But it is a good neighborhood to live in. John1 point

In order to develop loud speakers and sell niche items the company first and foremost has to stay in business and be profitable. Niche products like Heritage speakers won't get you there. You have to sell what the masses want to be able to cater to the minority (us).1 point
