  1. I have not messed with a XLR since I was a kid fixing things for a few local Bands, ok a lot of bands. As I recall they were 'Locking' in those days, do they still do that ? band members still tore them up, but they did not pull/fall out. By the way, one of the bands after years really took off, you may recall the name Great white? then Eddies dad financed the band with new equipment, Eddie and his brother were kind of snobs, cool but snobs, about the name and so it was, we get new equipment we use my name. Van Halen was born. Continued my repair work and never saw these guys again, sorry for the rant, but XLR's were the standard back in the day.......

  5. Not sure how many fans are out there, but to me this guy was damn good. Irish guitar blues at its best. His guitar work remind me of Stevie Ray Vaughan and I mean that as a complement to both of them. He was born two years after Clapton and 6 years before Stevie. This cat could play. Just curious if I am the only one. Shame he basically drank himself to death.

  6. So I got a great deal on a pair of RF-3, RS-3, RC-3 and a kw-12. The problem is the cones have light dents in them. Does anyone have any idea how I can make them more presentable? They sound fine, just ugly with the grills on TY Mark

  12. Not at all trying to rain on his parade at all. I was just shocked at your comment concerning ignoring completely the sound performance since they looked so good. Maybe I should all get some beat up old speakers, that are no longer produced (for reasons good or bad, who knows) make them look pretty and not worry about how good they sound, according to your comment. I agree they are gorgeous. They appear to be a decent, assymetrical short horn, which I suspect, like a LaScala, have a limited low end. But if it is to inspire other people who like AUDIO it would be nice so see some measurements to justify others to do the same besides just looks. Forgive me if I care about sound quality at least as much as looks (even more so, actually). But then again, the women who see and hear my system are visitors and not residents, so I can understand the aesthetics also. Different strokes........

  14. I know and am humbled by the knowledge here this forum has to offer. So once again I would like to ask a question before I make the plunge. My choice to buy the Marantz AV 7005 and use Anthem amps they both have the option to use RCA unbalanced or XLR balanced connections. What have members noticed when making the switch from one to the other. I am going to use Blue Jean for all my XLR cables when I do push forward with this project. I thing i have read about the Anthem Prepros they state you will get a 6 db increase in gain using the XLR, I haven't read there is a difference in signal output with the AV7005. Thanks to all who contribute. Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year.

  17. Separation and imaging sounds like you read my mind on your description. I know people that prefer one over the other and in my solid state 2ch system i prefer xlr when can be used whether just from eq to xover to amp or from cd player all the way to amp.

  18. I wonder what the new police bass drivers look like? I think they're called "The Rumbler", and the idea is that the lower-pitched tone is more likely to be audible in a car with the stereo playing loud and the windows rolled up. Our local police department got them a few years ago and it was mentioned in the news at the time.

  19. Since La Scalas are very similar in size to washing machines or dryers, you could try getting some of those boxes where large appliances are sold. This has been mentioned on the forum once or twice. If you could get them for free anytime, you wouldn't care if they got trashed, as long as they protected their precious contents.

  20. Some of that ditch weed may not hurt you, but this can kill. A little will get you High. A little more will put you to sleep. A little more and you will not wake up. Jimsonweed The James-Town Weed (which resembles the Thorny Apple of Peru, and I take to be the plant so call'd) is supposed to be one of the greatest coolers in the world. This being an early plant, was gather'd very young for a boil'd salad, by some of the soldiers sent thither to quell the rebellion of Bacon (1676); and some of them ate plentifully of it, the effect of which was a very pleasant comedy, for they turned natural fools upon it for several days: one would blow up a feather in the air; another would dart straws at it with much fury; and another, stark naked, was sitting up in a corner like a monkey, grinning and making mows [grimaces] at them; a fourth would fondly kiss and paw his companions, and sneer in their faces with a countenance more antic than any in a Dutch droll. In this frantic condition they were confined, lest they should, in their folly, destroy themselves — though it was observed that all their actions were full of innocence and good nature. Indeed, they were not very cleanly; for they would have wallowed in their own excrements, if they had not been prevented. A thousand such simple tricks they played, and after eleven days returned themselves again, not remembering anything that had passed.

  21. Well I received the XLR Interconnects today, and have been listening for the past hour or so. I definitely noticed an improvemnt in overall imaging as well as an increase in volume whether in a passive or active mode on my pre-amp. Nelson Pass who designed my pre and amp stated in an interview that the "action" on this particular pre is in the "Balanced" mode, and I have to agree. Perhaps different equipment different results, but I am certainly happy!

  27. Now it's time to crap all over this thread. I found a few lps at a thrift that has never paid off for me before. So far they have played as clean as they looked. Chicago---some kind of hits compilation with the band members in a goofy pose with paint on the cover. Moody Blues---To Our Childrens Childrens Children. Not played yet is a Toscanini effort of Dvorak New World Symphony and Firesign Theater Waiting For the Electrician or Someone Like Him. 2 bucks a piece, so they better be good.

  29. Hi guys, first of all, I joined because I have become a Klipsch fan (building my first home theater system) and I have a question. I recently purchased the RC-500 center from Crutchfield (which, from what I understand, is an rebadged for the Canadian market RC-52) and it states it comes with a 5 year warranty. When I came here to register it, there isn't an option for an RC-500. I'm assuming I'll still have a 5 year warranty? Thanks in advance, Clark

  30. Ah ok, great! Thanks for the reply

  31. Welcome to the Klipsch Forums, Clark! Believe you don't have to register to have Warranty, but, rather, need proof of purchase from an Authorized Dealer; which I'm pretty sure Crutchfield is.

  32. Fellas, I seem to remember Amy asking that we keep comments about pricing out of these threads. It's already widely known that, in general, our forum members don't like to pay going rate for anything, but that doesn't mean we should kill a sale for the OP. Jeff

  33. If you haven't done that since swapping in the RC-64, then you most certainly must. That's not small change and it has an impact on the overall audio presentation and balance.

  37. I was a DJ for the local radio station back when I was a teenager. Man that was a long time ago. Lots of fun though. I had worked there a couple of weeks when the station manager surprised me with a check. I had never discussed money with them. I could not imagine having that much fun and getting paid for it too!! 38. After going to the web site I see they are from Texas so they must know their shyt. As a side note, some people don't understand how we use the term BS down here. It's not only a negative. There is good bullshyt and bad bullshyt. The good variety is used for someone who is a charmer for example, talks a good story, etc. Bad bullshyt is usually not used with the word bad, but from the context you can usually tell, such as a load of, etc. It is easier when you hear it than to read it to grasp the difference, just as tone of voice can be here on the internet.

  39. Well, I pulled the trigger and purchased a 1M pair of M-Series M1000i ultimate XLR / XLR Interconnect Cable on Ebay this evening. This will be for a balanced connection between my preamp and amp. NOS, retail MSRP was $275.00 picked up for $80.00, figured it would be worth a try. Will report back in a week or so with my impressions.

  42. HERESY, WALNUT, OILED is what you have there. There is a bleach product that can be applied to wood to take out stains. Check your paint store. Any sanding should be done VERY LIGHTLY lest you burn through the veneer. A product called Watco Rejuvenating Oil is what a lot of us use to build back up the factory Boiled Linseed Oil (BLO for short) finish that was factory applied.

  43. Flippin mayor shoots out window at City Hall FLIPPIN — Authorities say no one was injured after the mayor of Flippin accidentally shot out a window in the police chief's office at City Hall. A police report obtained by The Baxter Bulletin says the rifle had been seized by Flippin police. In the report, Police Chief Dusty Smith says he was on the telephone in his City Hall office when Mayor J.J. Hudson came in and picked up the gun. The chief says he heard a loud shot and saw a large hole in his window. No one was injured. Hudson told police that he was trying to unload the firearm and that the ammunition had jammed. He told the newspaper that "it's all been taken care of" and declined further comment
