  1. I was fortunate enough to get an extra 15" woofer when I got my Cornwalls months ago, I had be contemplating using it in a base bin that i've been trying to locate one for a while now with no luck. It would be run using a behringer EP2000 off the back of my Usp-1 This thread was a bit of a bonus as well I couldn't really use the speaker calculator to accurately until this post now I have a much better idea. Originally I was going to attempt to build my own cab but weathers been to cold lately, so ive been after one of these closet one ive found is 6-8 hr drive away. I have also thought of making a center speaker using exact measurements from my Cornwalls for a one day, maybe? HT

  2. There are slim pickins for surplus stores (electronic) in NorCal, compared to LA Calif. Did a little driving today and visited one of my old store owners, his son was working the store, and said dad was at the warehouse. Wait, you have a warehouse ? oh man, I ask the kid to call dad and see if I could visit him there. Sure was the reply and bring some beer. I told the wife this "visit" was not going to be pretty, I could be there hours, she was good with it. After an hour of amazing finds, I wanted many things, but retiring in the within the next 21 days, I held back, owner was cool with my interest, said anything I want "we would work it out".....cool. about that time the wife calls out to me, Hey Babe, he's got what I think is speakers back here. off I go. OMG, um yep, those are indeed speakers! Frazier's ? I believe, OMG. should have brought my scotch, I needed a shot.

  3. I love building stuff... Engines... reloading my computer, amps, etc. I love speakers... I own 4 pair personally, but man build those SOB kills the knees and back. Ive spent the better part of the day coming back from the finisher to get 3 pair of speakers... and completed 1 pair of my own. The three pair which came home are: 1 a rehash of my very 1st cornscala. I cut the moterboard 5 years ago and held onto it. Combine a Cornwalls detentions, HF200 and the new eliptrac tweeter :-)... good stuff brewing. 2 my personal pair of 42" backloaded cabs for fostex or any 6" full range... WE built the 1st pair for a customer... but cut the wood for a pair for ourselves... no ideas what to do with it... but now its super pretty... 1st time Ive had a full range go deep and sound authentic. 3 Dave's design study/ collaboration on the Eminence 12CX... WOW is that a speaker and half... so smooth and just sound right. When Dave brought it over, it was raw MDF... I didn't even bother listening to it... I tore it down, primered and sent off to the finisher... Now she is back and she can really shake them down. Black lacquer with Sateen finish.

  5. Iv been thinking I know this storage lot owner in Rancho a few miles down the road, maybe I could rent a small storage unit and stick a small heater in it for a few weeks, got to dry these things out and kill the mold. when we got home I could still smell the oder of these things. had to change my clothes and dam, I still smell it. Why not just leave them outside, and spray them with bleach in a spray bottle? If you see bad weather coming put them in the garage till the weather is nice again.

  6. I drove by HSC on Wednesday and they appeared to still be in business. I have never seen any speakers there though. It is a good place to get sleeving for your speaker wire plus any chips you might need though.

  7. WOW, nice find. Where was this place? The only Surplus Store I recall was Halted in the Sacramento area.

  8. The cones are history, wiring looks to be chewed on, and the smell of dampness abounds. after dragging these out, we then covered and stashed them with his help (Heavy), told him I will be back with my truck next week. We have not yet talked about price.

  9. Wouldn't it be nice if we supported our friends and neighbors and bought American made products whenever possible? Maybe our economy would improve and unemployment would go down.

  13. Hey thanks, I find if I take crappy pics no one can see my flaws . Yes the legs adjust I love those things, I have accidentally cut one( not bad enough to cause problems) and ran my router to deep once. They were my dads I tried to give them back to him but he wouldn't take them. I love how I can have them right at level with my miter saw. I was just thinking of building a new work bench something make shift to help with assisting in cabinet construction. Some times when I am working off of the saw horses, such as routeing I am slouched over and it kills my back. The best thing I can thing of is something that can be easily, quickly adjusted for height. When I am assembling cabinets, its not bad. I have a set of steel adjustable sawhorses. I screwed a 2x4 on top of each so it don't matter if I cut into them. When they get bad I just replace the 2x4's

  14. The most important part is to make sure the drivers surround clears the motorboard & air leaks. Cabinet imperfections can be hidden by bondo & some sanding. Pictures look good, nice work.

  15. Bay Area Jason, I think over the years, iv purchased one or two items out west for a deal. I purchased a Sota TT for a friend that lived in Sacramento years ago... Deal went pretty smooth. Now my friend has one of my old Mitchell Gyrodecs and the Sota.

  19. As a brief aside... The forums are responsible for almost all I know about audio. The Klipsch forum was where I cam to appreciate, love, list and finally own some heritage products. Dave, Dean, ALK are just some who have helped along the way. Ive learned to cut some wood, understand specs and even voice a speaker its due to their help.

  20. Thank you so much. I'm on the hunt for a newer set of RS's. By the way my new receiver is a RX-A 1020.

  21. Hook up your Yamaha and see for yourself if you like how your system sounds with it. My system sounded great with an RX-V750 driving all the speakers, and still sounds fine with it driving just the surround speakers, while a pair of Yamaha MX-D1 amps drive the left and right front speakers. Your room and your ears are what matter.

  22. The consensus of opinion around here is that the RS52 is much less expensive than the RS62 and there isn't a noticeable difference in performance or quality. Most people recommend the RS52.

  23. The serial numbers got a bit mixed up in the 1990-1992 period, but I'd say it's very likely the "090" at the start of the part number suggests the year of manufacture is 1990. If your speaker is a Heresy II and has a rectangular cup where the connectors are, it's post-1986, since the earlier ones had round cups. What's the height, width and depth of your speakers? What size are the woofers? Pictures would be a big help.

  26. Todd at FUG could tell you some stuff about this speaker. It is quite unique looking. Looks like a reflex/horn mix on the woofer, the the satellite stands for the midtweeter is awesome.

  27. When I was digging the stuff piled on top of them, off, I started to smell the moldy wet smell, looking at the back of these there was one tag totally eatin up paper, The only thing I could read was "Fra" so I came home and did a search on "FRA speaker" and Frazier came up with this exact picture. The little wire stands are there but stuffed into the horns, again this is not a picture I took, they just look like this.

  28. I need some help identifying the manufacturing date for the Heresy II speakers I purchased back in 1992. The attached picture shows the serial number label on the back of one of the speakers, but it doesn't look like any other serial number format described online.

  29. Well of corse if you had the money duals is the way to go. But I still would take one really awesome sub over two mediocre ones. Diy is the route to go. My quad 18's cost 2300. Bar none have yet to hear a better setup than my own. Can't wait till I do. But haven't yet.

  35. Yamaha makes a range of good-sounding AVRs ranging in price from $300 to $850 in their RX-V line: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx/?mode=series They also have a higher-end line of AVRs, the Aventage, which range in price from $700 to $2200: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/aventage/#page=1&mode=paging As for power ratings, most speaker manufacturers recommend using receivers or amplifiers with higher power outputs than the speaker ratings, to ensure that the receiver or amp will always be operating in its clean low-distortion range. When amplifiers are asked to produce near-maximum power, that's when distortion or clipping can occur, which will damage speakers. If the amplifier has power to spare, that's much less likely to happen.

  37. If you are into 5 channel stereo or something like that, bookshelves would be fine. I think for actual surround content in movies and the like, RS wide dispersion works great. I have used both in my HT setup, and I prefer the RS. If you have a single bookshelf right there pointed at your listening position, I think you gain a bit of clarity from surround content but it is very localized and you always know exactly where the sound is coming from. RS by design really open up the surround content by not aiming it right at your head but bouncing it off the walls around and behind you. It makes for a more enveloping experience. You could try both though and see what you prefer, it is not like bookshelves will sound bad or anything. I wouldn't say it is a major upgrade going with RS, just a tad more open and subtle.

  38. I don't feel that at all. Sounds like these folks just don't care for the Klipsch sound. You either like them or you don't. I love the RS speakers for HT. They provide a very enveloping and non-localized and natural sound I'm pretty new around here to take my comments with a grain of salt. I have found that guys that use their multi-channel system mostly for music, do tend to use direct radiating for surrounds since they are not looking to disperse sound, but provide a very directional type sound. For movies, you want the sound to "surround" you and that's not what a direct radiating speaker is designed to do. Also, if you are going with a 5.1 setup, both THX and Dolby recommend placing your surrounds on the sides, slightly behind and above your listening position as opposed to placing them behind your listening position.

  42. Well I put this system a side for awhile so now I'm thinking about making some changes I was going to go 4 way adding a HF horn and driver to the Peavey MB-2 and the JBL 2360A horn and DIY MWM bass bins and getting a Ashly Protea 4.8SP however now I'm thinking of getting a Danley SM80 and getting rid of the Peavey MB-2's and the JBL 2360A . I have 3 Danley TH118's and will get another in a few months with the SM80 and run them with the MWM's with a Ashly Protea 3.6SP so The 4 MWM singles with 4 Danley TH118's in the middle and the Danley SM80 they will cover anything from 110Hz to 20khz probably 350Hz and run the TH118's to 100Hz and the MWM's from 100Hz-350Hz but will experiment with that should be interesting.
