  2. 4 double stacked MWM's with no woofers (needs 8) FREE! Must Pick up by April 4th. Area Code 30110. Yes. I was in the process of cleaning these up for use and decided to let them go. I am moving too....and I have too much stuff. I bought these from a guy in Maryland who owned a nightclub. He was getting a divorce and stashed them in an airport hanger. I paid a driver to go get them. I have checked all the woofer screw-in T-nuts and they work. I have new stainless steel screws for installing 8 woofers. The cabinet front cover screws are needed but the T-nuts for screw-in aren't damaged.. The seal on the front covers are intact. Some of these were hung at some point and have eye bolt holes in the back. The internal wiring intact. The back panel plates are there. Need new fuses and one of the cabinets needs a new fuse cap cover. One of the cabinets is missing the plastic portion of one of the banana posts to screw on the speaker wire. You could do w/o this if wanted. These small parts can be obtained from mouser.com or Partsexpress for cheap. You could bypass the fuses if you wanted. Attempts were made to put cast frame woofers in these as you can see where the internal woofer chamber has been "shaved" in areas in order to make the fit. This is similar to how this might have to be done with Bob Crites cast woofer placed in a la scala bin. The cast frames have the same mounting holes but the overall diameter is slighlty more. These need a paint job. One of the 4 had some veneer coming off the bottom towards the front. Probably from mixed drinks on the night club floor. I glue and nailed on a piece of thin plywood there. It needs to be sanded down even. There are areas where folks put their gum underneath the upper most panel. You would only see it if you looked up under there. You can sand these off easily if you wanted. I actually was gonna leave there as I thought it gave em character....showing these cabinets have seen some wild times (which I miss). I'm sure folks danced on top of these at one time or other. To be honest, I envisioned my kids dancing on these in my shop when I had them all setup. Was gonna put one MWM in each corner. These cabinets are sturdy. Performance wise...they should be fine. Up to new owner on how well you want them to look. You could do nothing but handle the fuse situation and be done if you wanted and throw in woofers. I guess whomever posts here first with interest gets the dibbs in order. Do NOT say you are interested and then PM me that you want more info or pics or something. I will bump the order if so. These are free dammmit! No emails or phone calls please. Just PM me. We can talk on the phone once we know the deal is solid. These are "as is". These are free dammmit!.....so don't give me any headache. They have to be picked up by April 4th bringing your own muscle. You can back up to the garage and load. No hills or steps. .

  4. your woofers are probably just fine. I would be listening and reading before buying new woofers. As far as I know the K28 is the factory suggested replacement woofer since the original one is no longer made. The K28 is in my opinion not a very good option if your stock ones work fine and only have a cosmetic issue. You only have to hold one of each (stock and K28) in your hands to understand what I mean. Sure the K28 will work but it does not have anywhere near the motor of the stock driver. You can buy K28's from Bob Crites if you are interested I think about $125.00 plus postage which will be around $35 - 40.00 each. just my best guess so do check with Bob for exact numbers but there are close I think. Your money will be much better spent on new crossovers and on titanium diaphragms for both the tweeter and the mid horns. Best regards Moray James. PS: for those who have one damaged woofer in their Forte or Forte ll you would need to buy two new K28 to replace them if you want the left and right speakers to match.

  6. Nice deal! Almost looks like damaged or rubbed to me in photo. I would give them some rubber like gentle treatment and see how they look. Not necessarily son of a gun, but leather treatment may work in a pinch. Look thirsty or dry. Welcome & congrats.

  11. I was going to post velocity stacks next... but a pressure chamber has me beat by far. This all makes me think that perhaps a gimbal control system for my next squawker is the next big thing in modified Klipsch horn loadeds.

  12. Getting my first Klipsch tomorrow. They are the Forte II model. They may at some point need to be refoamed. Stiill intact, but they seemed a bit dry.

  18. I would just wipe the surround off with a soft slightly dampened cloth. Be careful around the speaker cone. you do not want to damage it. Both pairs of my Forte II suffered from the "white stuff" when I picked them up. After you have them for awhile it will come back, just wipe them off.

  19. Im betting those woofers are..... A OK, unless they are actually torn. Here is an old thread on the powdery white residue that shows up on them. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/55381-discolored-rubber-of-forte-woofers/

  23. I just read your whole thread, awesome job on everything you have done, it's looks spectacular. There's a lot of work, and a fair amount of money there. I hope to take on a HT project soon, I start by adding a basement to my house! I'm not sure what you do for a profession, but you could be a contractor. You should be proud….Bill

  31. Welcome to the forum! If you want my expert opinion, I think there are two things wrong. The buzzing is coming from a bee hive inside the speaker. Be careful! The humming is because the speaker doesn't know the words. Let me know if that helps, Craig

  35. Earl i am assuming your going to run the khorns off the b&k? I ran my khorns with the parasound model 2100 preamp and b&k amp and they sounded amazing. I now have a fisher 500c which i am looking to restore because i want to give tubes a try Run the khorns off what you have now and in the future i am sure you will change it up. Keep your eyes peeled on a good deal so you wont miss it. Good luck and i hope you enjoy the khorns. Alex

  36. Hi all, Fifty-two hours aftet I left Ithaca, the Khorns are nestled all snug in their beds (or corners). No damage, and they are still "pristine." Thanks again to Brac. I will hook them up on Tuesday as I will be away tomorrow. Life is good!

  39. The hum in the sub amp of those speakers is quite common from what I've read. A popular repair is to eliminate the sub amp all together. Make a plate with wire terminals to cover the hole where the plate amp was and use outboard amplification. Most that have done this mod like the sounds of the speaker better than the stock configuration.

  43. seti, Thanks for posting the pic from you avatar. I didn't know what it was, still don't really comprehend the Santa Fe horn. Could you say more about that. What kind of size and scale is this rascal? I saw the pic in the Klipsch factory museum in 2004 and snapped the best pic I could of it as I thought it was really cool. I asked I think mr Hunter and I can't quote him on this as I don't remember exactly what he said but it was a customer modified Khorn. Its last known location was in Sante Fe and I just called it that for lack of a better word. I thought it was a Scandanavian design but boy was I wrong. To me it looks like the just put a nice shell around a khorn bass bin and made a beautiful hf cabinet as well. I thought it was an amazing art deco modern art khorn.
