  5. This is a classic: I was 19 and just out of high school. Got a summer job working at a steel tank head fab shop. We made tank heads of all sizes. Some went together like a puzzle and would be 50 feet across. One day another fella and I were told to get the 25K lb rough terrain forklift (big tires taller than a man) and go unload a gondola type railroad car loaded with steel plate at the dock. As I recall it was about 200,000 lbs of steel total weight with car and everything. The railroad car though was not all the way up to the dock. We tried but could not get the job done without moving the car. That little problem was about to get much bigger LOL. My partner directed me to get in the condola car and manually release the brakes while he pushed the car with the big forklift we had. Seemed reasonable to me, so I climbed in the gondola with the plate steel, unlocked the brake and started to release it. My forklift operator started pushing the car. All went well at first and he got the car in the correct position on the dock. BUT very slowly the car started pushing back on the forklift! I heard the big tires on the forklift start spinning and the railroad car was still moving. I started frantically turning the brake wheel as fast as I could only to realize I was going the wrong way and I could see the chain getting more slack in it. Now the loaded car were really moving. The steel was falling back down in the condola from where we had previously attempted to get it out. I was jumping around in the car to keep from getting pinched. Faster and faster the runaway car was gaining speed. I considered jumping off but it was just too high. After what seemed like an eternity I finally hit a derail about 1 mile down grade from that dock. The car cut through about a doz cross ties doing all kinds of damage to the track. All the while I'm holding on for dear life! Right side wheels were against the left side rail. Front trucks were crossed. Scared the you know what out my green butt. I was OK though. In the following days Norfolk Southern dispatched two heavy cranes ($1500 each my boss said) to get the car back on the track. A track crew came and made the necessary repairs. NS also lauched a full investigation interviewing both of us about the incident. The other fella got a weeks suspension without pay. (he was the senior employee of us two). I was told to never release the manual brake on a RR car again. From that day on I was know as "The Box Car Cowboy" to all my coworkers LOL.

  7. The cabinets are ugly, but solid, and I tested the drivers for resistance and they test good. The crossovers will need reworked, and I'll need to get some some K-77M or CT-125 tweeters for them. The woofers and mids passed the Porcupine Tree playing on the Droid through the HK amp test, so I'm happy wth what I have to start with. I would have paid more for two Crites woofers and four sheets of Lowe's birch than I paid for these, and the seller was passing through town on the way to another deal, so he delivered from an hour away. First things first. I'm going to fill in the voids with wood filler and build the edges and corners back up. I know if I get them working, I'll just listen to them, and then they'll keep their brutalized visage forever. Can't have that. So, after the initial repair is done, it will be decision time -- shoot them back to a nice glossy black, or give them a pretty veneer, or some of each. My first instinct is to shoot the inside gloss black and do the front, tops, and sides in a walnut or bubinga veneer. I'll see how it evolves. This will be my first significant restoration process, so I'll have a lot to learn. Maybe I should start on my Heresys and then move on to these? Nah. Why be sensible when you can jump in with all four feet?

  11. Exwife #2. The house was oriented such that the garages faced edgewise and we had a large concrete parking pad behind them. When her brother in law would visit he'd park his truck at the far edge of that pad. Exwife #2 backed her new Subaru out of the garage and into said parked truck. Not all that terrible if it had only happened once. 2 X in one week and then again the next year. Ayup 3 times the lady back her Subaru into the guys truck in precisely the same situation. That makes a bloop, blunder, stoopid............ The same lady once drove around for a week on a flat tire wondering what that little light on the dashboard meant.

  16. Thank you Carl. Talking about stuff like a bad back keeps the brain thinking about it let alone not being able to go sucks. Most of all i want to hang out with you guys that have been around here for quite a long time. As well as others new like myself. Heck i might be a bit annoying asking questions anyhow lol I love to learn and there is nothing better to learn from other klipschers. Before i joined the forum i read this place everyday. Iv had klipsch kg.5's for 20 years and honetly only knew through 100's of speakers i would buy the .5's would do the trick then for theater. Now i stick use my theater and its sort of like yours amp wise only im using all crown lol Alls I listen too now is 2channel. Also the step to dual 18's. Man you guys made things that seem impossible happen with patience. I absolutely love klipsch and anything to do with klipsch im all about it. Long story short lol I was once into bad habits. had a kid then got divorced then bad habits then remarried plus started racing got injuries etc...divorce and now remarried and love my cat buddy and my heart beats always for music and klipsch makes it easy. Now just balance my 16 yr old and my wife with klipsch. You are great guys here and cant wait to meet you! If not now..next time. I might look into putting a klipsch party together around indy. I have over 20,000 star points with a hotel in particular and may use my gold card to help make it happen...but then you southerners wont make that...

  23. hahahahaha very funny boxx your great lol I didnt mean to get political about this the other day im just trying to understand exactly why the u.s. with all our superior technology are limited to not using that technology in certain regions. i mean sure we can benifit by exercising our practices with this technology and surely log possible sensitive information about forign land but then again considering even the american passengers are foriegn nationals, at least from what i see...looks like we are really trying to help and are getting stale info due too the maylays in particular feeling more than inferior...for past obvious reason.. I cant help but be serious in types of situations like this. Heck i was on vacation for the like 3rd thru 6th day after it was deemed a lost flight then when back home once my mrs beeker left cnn on i figured simply "in da sea" from day 1 and never thought twice about that...day 7 my mrs left cnn on got me into discussing this with local friends then onto here. I feel in no way we are a target of it if liner was landed and terror is the forwarded use by a bad group. Still i feel if it even ever really happened the way its said to be (had to say it i mean who knows with all our political bullchit)there is more than a 90% chance it is in da sea and will never be discovered. I have to stop now cause politics is behind even the smallest of things like big dominos falling onto the smaller ones even though they are all the same. Blessings and good cheers to all

  24. That and maybe the effect of greater depth that had increased over time in the KG series like the 5.5. Could come up with something close to a KLF by combining the 5.5 with the T-5000. Just wondering since mention it. Now it comes together you 2 just nailed it. Thats neat stuff to know thanks for sharing thoughts. learning makes me happy

  25. That is very a interesting thought. Timeline would lead this way. Bottom 12 is passive in the 500/5000. I will say klfs(at least 20&30)are better but with some upgrades the tangents hold their own. I eq'd mine for a while and tried a good powered 12 driven off speaker wire in 2ch format and the 5000's imo do not need a powered sub. You are onto it. The klf was directly after the tangent thousands were out of production. Seems to me you just brought to mind whats up. Interesting

  26. I'll be...another pair of 3000's. The guy i traded mine too took mine all beat up and covered them in oak...they looked gorgeous and im an avid black finish collector. I truly wish id kept them now but then i was trade and swap crazy and also lost them. Every pair of klipsch iv sold iv regreted especially heresys considering new klipsch people apparently spend so so much money on them. Your the 4th person iv heard had the 3000's. Iv known of or seen i believe 6 or 7 pairs of 4000's not owning 4k's but have heard some...several 4k's have been on ebay...The 3000 seem rare. Seems all tangent thousands are pretty rare as are the hundreds...Im out of positives at the moment yet il get you some soon. Unlike the takers not giving around here lol

  27. I see yours are reconed as are mine. There was a warranty period where klipsch replaced t5000 woofers with ribbed 12"s. gtact from canado on ebay originally had 3 replacements. Last i looked he was down to 1

  31. It did not go wrong, it just went more "high $$$ end". Because they can. It is all relevant. As long as there is a niche(rich) market for this high end gear, the elite will still buy it. Me, I am happy with my craigslist, audiogon, ebay, usaudiomart, and klipch forum purchases. There are some of these high-end companies using horn technologies, but object to the comparisons with our "lowly" Klipsch speakers. http://www.higherfi.com/spkrlist/speakerlist.php Bill That is quite the store, however if I ran into a couple of those designs in a dark room id shoot it.

  32. Ok guys, here is the deal: just for my buds here, or EBAY here they come! and you know where the price will go then! Power Output 170Wrms per channel continuous both channels driven into 8Ω from 20Hz to 20kHz at no more than 0.06% Total Harmonic Distortion. 260Wrms per channel continuous into 4Ω 400Wrms bridged into 8Ω These were used in a studio environment, Mfg sometime in 86 so they are dated just a tad, now as far as looks go I rate them all at a 5 out of 10, stickers here and there, scratches, they are rack mount and appear to have been just that. pulling the covers and peering inside, no one has been inside these units, and I will leave all original dust intact, all iv done here is plug them in one at a time, I will not clean these in any way. they come just as I got them. Now since I have the rare virus of the audiophile infection, as you do also or you would not be here, here is the deal of the Day! $200 + $50 shipping, each unit. shipping + ins and will gladly return what is not needed. @ 33Lbs $50 bucks shipping should cover each unit to the east coast, and I WILL pack the heII out of each one. If someone wish's to meet up halfway for pick up, let me know. maybe we can work something out. PS third unit is pushin Moody Blues here at 4:30 am , only running maybe two watts into the Scallas. I do not expect to get some kind of hard time here, the specs/reviews for these units are all over web, just want to pass on a great deal to my Buds, what you do with them is up to you, resell if you wish. I prefer a well seasoned forum member to procure these amps, NO Guests please! I will leave what are now two amps posted here for the day. then Ebay.

  33. The Amps are now all sold, except one guy in Italy who is taking his time paying, the other two went to the same guy, seemed he is into the older MOSFETs, and after telling him about the Bridged/Stereo switch, kind of a no brainer from there. hope he has some good speakers. First pair of complete horns are on Ebay at this time. these would be the EV brand 8 ohm drivers, four bones for both, local P/U or may meet half way if someone is interested.

  38. As a child, I was led to believe that the plastic corn handles were "fancy", even though my folks didn't use them... As an adult, if the husk doesn't turn too black while grilling (soaked in water first), I leave it on for an even bigger handle to free up my beer hand. This cast iron cornbread pan is the closest thing to a corn "trough" that I own:

The DAC-11 (mine) and other DAC's they sell you can view online here: http://shop.grantfidelity.com/Digital-Converters/ Wb Dam, I need to read up on these critters, getting ahead of myself in research. The only thing iv decided so far is NOT to decide for a few days.
