  1. My Road trip to Bandon Oregon Coast last year to score the Scalas, I just knew we were going the right way.

  2. I have heard that Paul Klipsch, in the early days of his company, used to travel around with a Klipschorn for demonstrations and he powered it with a small portable radio. He would probably have been happy to have something as good as an Ipod and dock.

  3. As part of a sell off of my Frazier Elevens that netted a nice bit of coin, I purchased some things I was jonesin' for. Quite honestly met my needs for the moment and still had some bucks left so I figure I'd treat the family. Bought a Yamaha Aventage HT receiver. It replaced a Panasonc SA-XR57 which I'd used for a number of years. Great audio, but the single HDMI in and out a bit of a bottleneck these days requiring a lot of switching. Bottom line: Totally impressed with the YPAO auto setup. Put the mic in the sweet spot, and said "do it." It responded "You people are entirely too loud." Turned off the AC, told the family to be quiet, and tried again. It went through routine and said "OK, Ace, you have three speakers out of phase." Alrighty then. Thought I got it right, ran it again, and it said "Nice try, douchebag, but still two out of phase." Third time: "Would have been easier if I didn't have to deal with an idiot, but I've adjusted the levels of these speakers and balanced them for the godawful acoustics in this so called room for you. Say thank you." Really impressive, and the results outstanding. The Panny had been completely unable to bring the Cornwall I am using as a center in line with the much less efficient other speakers, but the YPAO managed to do it nicely. Only watched "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" so far (son's request) but the sound was quiet marvelous. Must relate this quick thinking from dad for the evening: Son says "Just what is a wardrobe anyway?" Response from dad: "Similar to chifforobe without drawers." Dave

  5. Indeed. I've attached the original unedited versions for the curious. I love playing around in Photoshop. I'm no pro by a long shot, but it is fun to mess with. You can see all my stuff here, if anyone is interested to see how I spend my free time. I don't take photos for money, so I'm ok with putting it on here

  6. First time guests to my modest home will usually end up asking, "is somebody playing a piano in the other room ?". So I will show off my mighty oak Klipschorns, sounding like an actual grand piano while being powered by a one (1) watt per channel, AA battery powered I-Pod dock. After their initial astonishment wears off, I will then take them into my acoustically treated home theater room and introduce them to the sound of my hi-powered Klipsch Heritage audio system. Most people never feel quite the same about speakers after that. I believe that for K-horns to sound their best, they need good solid corners. Notice that in my pictures, the corners are re-inforced with sections of low cost, used solid-core door slabs, cut to the height of the speakers. Some people use plywood, MDF or extra sheetrock. 32" wide panels are better than none. Paint it, stain it or staple some fabric on it. Klipschorns deserve better than single layer gypsum drywall resonance distortion. Enjoy the music!

  10. Today is my mother-in-law's 90th birthday. She is generally in remarkably good health (more like a 80 year old), but was misdiagnosed by her friendly family M.D. He gave her a prescription for an infection which, had he looked at the lab results, he would have known was contraindicated. Anyway, we resolved the problem on Wednesday and she is coming back. Now the problem. we have been planning a surprise party for her for two months with people coming from all over the Northeast. She is not really up to this kind of a "surprise" so we are in a quandary, wish I had some of the Duggan's for my coffee

  11. We have ALL had Baileys, Duggans is a Tad richer in flavor and they add just a smidgen of Fine Irish Jamisons and way cheaper than Baileys.

  12. I was offered an old am fm radio with a broken turntable. Now it's no beauty. I grew up with it in the house and I don't ever remember it having a tube changed. I turned it down, but like I said I'm having second thoughts. Only one speaker about 14 inches across and in bad shape. Arm on turntable is lying on top of the platter. Had to have been made in the 50's I'd guess. Open for opinions, objections, ridicule, and even advice. Maybe something for when I'm in the Dog house err Man Cave.

  14. I have little doubt that the iHome sounds better through Klipshorns than the internal speakers. I don't know why this never occurred to me... I have one that wakes me up every morning sitting on the floor in between a pair of Cornwalls. Maybe I should wire them up?! I imagine I might not be hitting the snooze to go back to sleep anymore.

  15. Hi Dean, Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I know that you are very knowledgable, and I respect your opinion. This is just a post about a guest bedroom speaker system that I use for background music sometimes. My point is that the Klipschorns are very efficient, and that good solid corners are important. BTW, it was from reading your excellent posts in this thread https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/42953-false-corners-screwed-into-k-horns/, that made me think to write a fresh piece about the importance of good corners. Have a nice day.

  16. A good presumption . The key is the spelling of Willy . The y is masculine whereas an ie is feminine . At least that's what my mother told me .Speaking of mothers , we are all as old as our mothers on one level . exactly. He used to give me hell about spelling his name "willie". I didn't realize I was doing it, I guess because I was smoking so much reefer in those days.... Does Willie Nelson know this? Or is weed responsible for how he spells it too?

  20. I have gotten back into the RTR thing after swearing off those expensive, finicky, outdated machines a few years ago. I turns out I'm still addicted to watching those big reels spinning around. These decks are both Ampex ATR-700 2 track decks, one being 7.5/15 ips, and the other being 3.75/7.5 ips. These 2 track decks sound far better than the 4 track decks I've owned in the past, although I use twice as much tape with them. So now my source components consist of turntables, cassette decks, RTR decks,( and a couple of CD players just in case some "digital" friends stop by).

  25. This amp was a custom build by a true artist. I am breaking the rules of the thread a bit because it is not what is beneath this amp that makes it special. It is the artistry and care of the external build. The guts of this 6V6 amp came from a Magnavox console. He COMPLETELY customized it. I don't know how much time he has involved, but it was a lot. A true beauty. The amp is for sale "Magnavox Tube Stereo HiFi Amplifier Amp 175-FF Push-Pull 6V6 Customized!" The other image is of an un-customized 175 amp.

  26. Very funny. I haven't tried YPAO yet, but I think I like Audyssey better because it doesn't make fun of me and call me names. The worst thing it has done to me is I caught it rolling it's eyes back in it's processor.

  28. The easiest way I've found to post pictures is to scroll to the bottom of the post box, and click on "More Reply Options". From there, it's easy to select a photo from your computer with "Choose File", and then click on "Attach This File" as long as it is smaller than 2MB. Welcome!

  30. I totally agree with this. Klipsch could even develop kits to bring many speakers up to date. However, what they really want is for all of these old speakers to die so that you will buy new ones. That one is once removed from the horse's mouth. You only buy new ones if you want to downsize. At least for guys like me. LOL.

  31. Because Klipsch isn't in the business of supporting DIY projects, they're in the business of selling loudspeakers and keeping an inventory of parts to honor their warranties. It used to be that you had to have a valid serial number of the loudspeaker you wanted the replacement part for, or you couldn't order or buy the part. This is the purpose of the warranty card you send in (or do online). I once called to order some replacement woofers for my RF-7s, and the first thing they asked me for was the serial number of the damaged loudspeaker. If Bob sells phenolic versions, I would stay with the phenolics. They sound really nice and you don't have to modify the crossover.

  33. Kids are a trip. But like kittens they grow up. The teenage years can at times be trying. But before you know it they are grown and you have grand kids to spoil. Mine were no angles, but we did have fun. Like the time I got up in the dark and pulled a length of toilet paper to blow my nose, then realized I should have turned on the light first. A mother will go to great extremes to protect her young. I've told my son he was lucky she was there that night. And we get a good laugh, but I always look at the toilet paper before blowing my nose anymore. Early grade school and Santa got em used motorcycles. I was riding with my son and a friend of his on some back roads, knees up to the handlebars when a car went by and the people just stared at me. Hell I didn't care, face covered with dust and sweat, s#!T eating grin on my face cause I was having fun with the kids. Kids are in their 30's now and I get to see them once in a while. But if any of us get into a bind you can bet help will be coming.

  35. Likely, people are borrowing photos from real postings. They post them elsewhere for ~$100 with only a gmail address as the contact. That way they get your real email address when you email them (not the anonymous CL email address). Beware of email me at _____(at)gmail... postings, they are SCAMS.

  38. that is funny. i even had to look that up and learn something Now where to start. I never change the channel i just leave it on the same channel its on when i get up and watch til mrs beeker changes it, when im not in the room of course normally when im alseep in the other room. Its been on cnn for about a day now while i work on my bracket I have my globe here and i had to take a very large painting off the wall to post clips and post its with clues. I ran out of foil so my personal notes may be a little off course. Anyhow after studying the bush regime way before prescott my lucky red tack is planted 7hrs directly north of when the left turn was made. All civilians were lost after 20minutes at 45000 feet. Unfortunately we are using this knowledge to look this area of the middle east and china and anywhere else we can sneak around while the maylay flight is hot news. I really killed my lower back today carrying 1 polk monitor 10a. Im a healthy looking guy kinda like mr t and i cant even take the trash out anymore. kinda depressed earlier. I love tube amps jammimg my chorus ii and i heard one of those $2000 mono fishers today. Thank you all for your time I still gotta figure this out so i can vote

  39. I hear you. Thank you. It is permanent yet im learning how to live with it. I want to go bad. Further south we hoosiers get the better the scenes I considered flying and car rental and if i dont make this gathering i likely will next time. Airports 2 miles from my house. I cannot imagine 4000miles. 4 years ago i drove to atlanta and back for a wedding. Also played 18holes which was a bad mistake on spine. I use to hold a solid 3 handicap. Afterwards I really thought i was crippled for life and still had a wedding to go to. I am going to hope ark soon. just hope in 2 weeks im ready.
