  3. Sounds terrible with the s on the end of Hazelenut LOL, The boss wants to give me more work. I go nuts if I have to drive another mile, and 3 cups. Doing a dry run this Saturday. Wish me luck!? Coffee Mate is alright but, looking for the other brands. Thinking about ordering miniatures online. Guess I can do that. Know it is not much but 1200 miles each weekend has me homesick. Nothing to do but smoke and drink something. That Java Monster works. Nursing one is recom mended for those that imbibe. Says right on the label, 2 servings.

  5. You know of course that the Klipschorn top-hat can be separated from the bass bin. This way you can grab each section under a different arm for easy moving! Yes indeed, I saw those little Wingnut things as the second one was ready to come out of the truck, what did I do then? reached inside and made sure they were tite!

  9. Palladiums are in their own category the same as the reference line would be. Palladium quality cannot be disputed. If somebody spending the money on a palladium puts a scratch on them all i can say is shame on them. Palladium scale in any event with grading are A+

  10. Funny how minor illness always seems to follow the arrival of new K'horns. A product manufacturing defect no doubt. Probably associated with off gassing.

  11. It takes a lot of time to adjust to a klipschorn setup. I would suggest a bit more time. The plug and play use of the chorus is so simple nonetheless i respect your situation either way you would go...

  12. Ah yes, the Khorn subject, well they are set up, and sound ? well she wish's me to bring back her Chorus set up, and I agree. It seems the placement in the room (anywhere) is just too dam small, iv always told her we need a bigger living room.

  15. Hello all.Newbie to forum. Question 1: What say all about placement of (to be acquired) Khorns on raised platforms 28" high at corners of short wall of dedicated audio room in basement with air cavity walls (external concrete, internal brickwork) with half of total surface area of walls and ceiling treated accoustically with glass fibre sheets covered by thick tapestry. The Room measures 11'H x 17'-9"W x 25'L. Sweet spot triangulated at 12 feet but ears end up level with 12" to 15" from bottom of speakers when seated on couch. Noteworthy that said sweet spot location sounds distinctly better (more solid bass) than when I raise seating position higher by 30"(sitting temporarily on backrest of couch at said sweet spot) with existing speakers. Not stating present gear set up to keep discussion free from going on tangents. Have trawled forum but this issue has never been explored. Question 2: What say all about running a two channel set up with 'wall of speakers' i.e.like 4 pairs run through dedicated 4 amplifiers plus powered sub? Yes...WAF has no application in my man cave fortunately. The issue of multiple full range speaker pairs covering complimenting areas of audio spectrum where the sum of sound produced is gloriously full has also not been discussed in the forum.

  17. Thank guys! Mine came from woot as well. Something is definitely not right. I know Klipsch wouldn't put out something like that, maybe I just got a bad one . Please let me know what you all think when you get yours. Thanks for the quick reply Amy.

  18. Well if you decide to sell them it sounds like it will be pickup only ! It shouldn't be physically painful to buy speakers, sorry to hear about your back. It has to be placement or something wrong with the speakers because you have some what should be some really good sounding equipment upstream?

  21. doesn't the "wall of sound" layout, while full and very robust(I have done it myself), diminish imaging and dimensionality? My personal preference is for focused placement in the lateral position rather than the "wall of sound" positioning.

  24. My guess is that the tweeter is blown. I have not worked on units like yours but let me make the following suggestions. You seem to have bi-wiring terminals in that you've cleaned the jumpers, with no improvement. You can remove the jumper and connect the amp to the lower terminals which are probably the woofer. You might find you get the same muddy sound. This just shows the woofer is working. Then connect the amp to the upper terminals which feed the tweeters. You will probably hear nothing because the tweeters are blown. Then you're going to have to remove the tweeter horns. Maybe this is just a matter of unscrewing from the front. Take note of which wires go where on the back of the tweeter horns. (Which is toward to top and whether there is a small red dot marking or a + sign in the plastic, and the color of the wire going to it. There may be a stripe.) My guess is that they have small push on terminals which you can pull apart. Tape the wires to the box so they don't fall back into the box. The problem is that the voice coil on the driver is burned out. The good news is that the driver is fairly modular and you will see some machine and nuts screws to take it apart. It might be best to wait unit you get a replacement voice coil unit before you take it apart. Crites or Klipsch should be able to sell you a replacement diaphragm unit. I bought some for my Quartets at about $40 apiece. When I bought them from Klipsch there was a diagram which was a 10th generation photocopy of the set up. But it is easy to figure out. I think you will be able to do this yourself Keep us informed and if you send photos people here can help.. WMcD

  25. I applaud the effort, and will enjoy the effect in selected theaters, and perhaps eventually in our HT. Dolby is using some old (and good) ideas, plus, no doubt, some new ones . Below are some of the old ideas, discussed in my post below the quote. Overhead speakers were used (in some theaters) in several 70mm films from 1955 through at least 1977. Sometimes (I'm told) using them depended on the cooperation of the projectionist. The overheads at the Coronet in San Francisco were bigger than many, and looked like JBL C40 enclosures just barely sticking out of the ceiling (& I know Ampex commisioned JBL to provide the speakers for Todd-AO, the first modern 70 mm process). As I recall there were about 8 big overhead boxes. The early Todd-AO tracks had only one true surround channel, but it could be sent to various locations, at least with Around the World in 80 Days (1956), which allowed the Queen's band to move up the side of the theater as it left the screen. In those days 70 mm houses had 5 speakers behind the screen -- Dolby later reduced that to 3, plus 1 sub, and used 2 true surrounds. During a demo of 8 channel D150, someone got their wires crossed (literally) and sent the sound of a tank in Patton to the overhead speakers in the theater. When Star Wars ran in 70 mm at the Coronet in 1977, the Big Ship "flew" overhead, thanks to some of the sound being temporarily channeled to the big ceiling speakers. No such luck for the revival (a pale 35 mm version). The sound (music) moved around the theater, and followed some action, in the 1940/41 version of Walt Disney's Fantasia. This is covered in many articles, including the one by A.P. Peck in the January 1941 Scientific American. In New York, Fantasia used 90 speakers, 36 of which were behind the screen, with the rest around the theater. The soundtrack had only 4 channels -- one control, and three music channels -- but the control track moved the sound around the theater, always preserving some sourcing from behind the screen, so people wouldn't get too disoriented. I knew two people, a few generations before me, who experienced Fantasound, as it was called. They both used the same word to describe it: "Hypnotic." One of these gentlemen was an audio engineer who interviewed the sound guys when they were setting up in San Francisco. He said they said that the reason for having so many speakers behind the screen itself (36, if S.F. was set up like N.Y.C) was partly to allow the sound to move around, but also to build up the potential SPL to a high of 75 dB over 30 dB possible room noise, bringing the theoretical top to 105 dB. In the scene in which Artimis (or whatever goddess it was) uses the crescent moon as a bow, and fires an arrow of stars across the sky, when the arrow leaves the screen some of the music follows it off-screen, and up beyond the procenium arch. As to dialog following characters, it followed them quite accurately in the early Todd-AO films. In the famous whist table scene in 80 Days, the (5) behind the screen channels placed the dialog of the several players and onlookers in their mouths, at least horizontally. So, congratulations to Dolby for reviving and expanding on these ideas!

  34. The chowder cook off was fun with ten restaurants trying to out do the others. There was one red chowder that reminded me of oyster shooters. Skimpily clad young ladies served the chowder on trays as you walked by each tent. My favorite chowder had kernels of corn and they managed to keep the chowder hot. Beautiful weather ( I got a little sunburned) and fun to people watch. Not a bad day! Okay minermark....how about your new speakers? Cheers Gents

  37. Did a 75 gallon reef tank for few years, it can get to be really expensive but beautiful. It had a lighting system that would start out with Actinic bulbs and a little later the Metal Halide would come on, I loved to watch all the invertebrates come alive and open up. I wish I would have known a place to buy grafts like you had it would have been better than what I was doing. I would go to any place with reef tanks I could find, even when on vacation just to look for something different. It can be addicting looking for something new, this was back when they were starting to ban live rock and prices were going crazy. I ran into a man who had just retired from the military and he had always wanted a reef tank but moved often. After getting to know him and how much he wanted a tank I decided to get away from it and sold the whole setup to him. I sold it for less than a quarter of what it had cost me but after having had all the animals and coral for years I felt good about it and the time was right, it was easy knowing he would take care of everything which as you know is a big deal. After missing it for a while I started something new (for me) Garden ponds and Japanese Koi. Even got into breeding Koi and selling them, the pond thing was fun, especially building waterfalls. We also collected and grew water lilies and bog plants for fun. Like Paul Harvey would say, now the rest of the story....... Just to show how you never know how things will turn out everyone who seen the pond wanted one. It turned into a business, I quit my job as a restaurant manager and started building ponds with Koi, fully planted with tropical water lilies and bog plants. It was just my wife and I with occasional help. After a while people wanted more than just ponds, they wanted us to also do around the ponds and the rest of the yard, that required a state test and a license. Well almost 20 year later I have to say that reef tank led me into easily the most fun job of my life, you just never know. We quit, not by choice but by hurricane, landscaping is not very important when your house is trashed and rebuilding is very slow, but we do now have 10 ponds roughly 20'x 40' were seeding again with tropical water lilies which we will sell later, or just look at ? My name here when I signed up was from our business name, down to earth landscaping = dtel Sorry for going on so long but your pictures brought back great memories. Ok carry, on enough for one day.

  39. Lost my turntable in 1990; I'm not looking for it, although I do have all the albums on tape; haven't used the Nakamichi BX-300 tape deck this century. Might buy the CD, because that song sounds so good, loud.

  40. I surely agree. If they were closer I would contact them. I'll be honest though there was a fellow with a full reference klipsch system on craigslist locally with klipsch sub 10 included asking for $125 for 5.1 total system, im not kidding 1 bit. I called him and let him know they were more valuable. He looked on the internet and could not believe what he had was worth about $2k used. I did give him $500 and he was happy. True story

  41. Boxx you put me in tears laughing lol your great. In my opinion and my wife has grown our blur ray collection like something that grows fast iv never seen nothing like it, may be why im broke lol anyhow imo you aint missing anything. im serious here. although im into speakers more than theater and have a couple bdp's that cost over$600 1 was used i dont find blurays that great. little old fashion maybe yet again i still use a cheapo vcr(mostly for classic porn JUST KIDDIN LOL)sometimes(haha) but its not even hooked up to nothing for quite a while...I just grad dvds even if theres a blu ray of the same film next to it. I see blu ray and sure its better quality no matter what your watching tho its a new money maker for the foreign countrys to make more cash with new versions and updates every 6 months. half my gear has hdmi i still prefer rca or optical for digital programming due to preference in sound quality. its not too surprising to see some of the best killer systems iv seen with a cheap dynex tv on the wall let alone the 20 inch floor tube tv with his mcintosh gear sitting on top of it. This is my take on it all and could go on and on but it just dont make 1 difference to me dvd to bluray. Save your money and by dvds cheap at the pawn shop. 1 day tho the dvd will be obsolete. I swore i'd never give up tape cassetes today i honestly have hundreds of good cd's i havent even looked at yet let alone at least 1000's of tracks on my ipod classic 160mb that is in some bundle of wire i dont figure on finding maybe ever..so sounds like your an audio person like myself even tho theres 2 great theaters in my home. 2 ch please, even with movies
