Properly placed, they'll hit 50Hz. The E string on a four string bass guitar is 41Hz. Okay, so you lose a little, but what you get used to and what spoils you are the clean and crisp bass lines and the extremely fast and punchy bass. Once you get these dialed in, you'll find yourself in front of them quite a bit. Subs are a two edged sword. You get the bottom, but it normally doesn't sound right with the cleanliness and speed of the horn loaded bass. That's why many are moving to the tapped subs (I've even been looking at them). A good option is to keep it simple: give up the bottom, get a decent tube amp, and then listen at low to moderate levels after a long day. You get to a point in life where you're tired of noise, and the last thing you want is a bombastic, ear-bleeding listening session.

Went to see Joe Smothers playing at Ted's on the Cape Fear River last night. Joe played with Doc Watson in the Frosty Morn Band years ago. He also use to perform as Smother's and Lawrence playing with a very talented banjo picker, Jack Lawrence. A packed house for the 7-9pm concert. I bought two of his CDs and had him sign one for the lady friend who is out of state. Joe is about 5'6" but you would not believe the powerful voice and the guitar work is impressive. A fun time. Back to the hottie. She had a party and sleep over last night (guys and gals) and there are cars parked every where this morning. Bet they had fun! Rain here....looks like an all day event. The Colonials had had DooWop? Watched "The Last Mohigans" earlier today, and , of course, I I've read the book. It occurred to me that Native Americans would probably have been more susceptible to DooWop, than, say, rock-and-roll, and /or blankets infected with smallpox. Just think. Some Brothers hanging around a camp fire, putting out some harmonies. I'm pretty sure the locals wouldn't have chewed off the fingers of that guy who became a martyr/saint if they knew he'd need them to snap them to keep the beat going. Now granted, the bad Indian tribes were in the pay of the French, who probably would have sneered at DooWop, eaten some snails and ordered the Neighborhood burned down. Or maybe the tribes would have changed their minds, and tossed the Frenchies into the nearest camp fire and sat down with, say the Silhouettes, and shared a peace pipe or two. What say ye?

I must say i am in the process of the decision to go full palladium 7.1 at the first of the year(my last year plans fell through as i wanted although were fulfilled otherwise/&other ways). You are very close to my home as well. This is such a great capture for any individual. I will certainly keep my mind on this sale indeed . .

They sit on a shallow pan above my shop workbench and are a great conversation piece. Since they were not leaking, just did not want to throw them away, and will dispose of them safely when the time comes. One question. I have heard when they are 20+ years old (mine were all between 32-38 years old) that they simply lose capacitance over a 20+ year period. True or myth? It's true. Capacitance begins to drift with age because of dielectric breakdown. What surprising though is that it often doesn't drift as much as we would expect. The thing that suffers most is the resistive element. The ESR begins to climb, and power which is supposed to go to the drivers is now turned into heat. This is why the speakers get brighter after the capacitors are replaced. Those old capacitors will cause the sound to be a little grungy too. Thanks, Dean . . . "a little grungy" is exactly what I was hearing before I changed the 36-year-old caps. Listenable sure, but a little grungy before the cap change, crystal clear after. I appreciate the description to what I was hearing! I would never have known what I was missing before I changed caps, because the '76 La Scalas were not only the first Heritage I ever bought, but the first I ever heard once I plugged them up.

Sounds like fun, I love going to see local bands in small venues it much more personal than a arena or stadium. Your not helping by telling us about the neighbor only making it worse. Imagination can be a terrible thing

Wanted to post an update in the venerable Southern BBQ thread that used to live in the General Forum. It is probably still out there somewhere, but my quick search didn't locate it. Just wanted to say Kudos! to SSH who prepared BBQ and trimmings for the Friends of Paul gathering in Hope last weekend. Man, that was some good Q. Not sure i can describe his process except to say that he smoked boston butts at home, pulled the pork and warmed it up in crock pots at the super8. It was lightly sauced and served on buns or on the plate. Also world class was his oil and vinegar based slaw. no mayo. Pinto beans from scratch with smoked sausage also the real deal. Thank you Steve. This was a fabulous dinner for the gathering and would have been considered world class catered by any bbq establishment. Huge amount of work getting this all to Hope and served. Thanks bro!

I agree. That is what I experienced with my Dual Velodyne HGS15's. There was a NOTICEABLY more impact (even if it was only 3db). When I added the 2nd sub, I could then "feel" the bass instead of just hearing it. Maybe that's because it smoothed out the bass response and added more bass in my primary listening position....that I'm not sure.

Klipsch groups the Forte/Chorus/Quartet as their Heritage series.

That's pretty close together to get proper sound stage width and scale, unless the primary listening position is near-field, which is probably not advisable for those speakers anyway. Getting them spaced wider, in closer proximity to the corners, will bring the bass up. While you're at it, don't be afraid to play with toe-in, perhaps to a more extreme degree than you have previously. Your speaker's directivity in the upper registers can be used to your advantage to sidestep early first reflections. Reducing that high freq reflected sound will help shift the tonal balance to the warmer side at the listening position. You may find it to result in better imaging/sound stage, too. Have a look at THIS for some ideas on how to get a stable image over a large area. Howdy, and try to keep working at what you have, until you are expended. First hit the THIS that *Ski Bum has posted for you to read, and move the speakers to as far apart as space permits. Then do the first toe-in towards you the listener X number of feet away from speaker. Then toe-in a bit further, while listening to same material/source. That null thing must be occuring somewhere, IMLO. Takes time so relax and reflect while reading these frontline posters. A process of elimination is in order, one at a time.

My point was two variable were changed and that make the difference hard to separate. When experimenting it is better to only alter one variable and measure or some other method to compare X and X'.

I just visited your website to read your tagline. That's awesome Dean! "Because sometimes it's what you don't Hear" Maybe my hearing isn't as bad as I've always claimed it to be. I know I'm not an audiophile by any means, very much a casual listener but it's cool to know that my ears are hearing exactly what your crossovers are designed to do. I'm definitely enjoying the RF-7ii's with the upgraded crossovers. Thx again for the great work. Thanks Arky. I really miss having Michael around. He is a great guy with a LOT to contribute to this forum. Dean, if they are a 70Hz horn, I wonder why Klipsch states they are 53Hz-17kHz(+-) 4dB? 53Hz to 70Hz is a big gap. Just curious where you got the 70Hz figure from. If that is the case, indeed that's why the bass isn't very impressive to my ears. I've never not had a sub other than in my living room but the RF-7ii's have plenty of bass in that room, especially with hardwood floors.

I would seriously consider waiting til the new releases are out for demo and a possible review. Also consider a 5.1 avr or avp unless you are possibly going 7.1 or 7.2 or/and so on. Just a little patience will yield so many more great choices. I would also look into other brands such as marantz, integra, anthem, krell and other very great options that are not only out there now but gonna be in a bit of time, certainly by june maybe july we should see a number of new nice pieces that if one would to buy now it surely would be a stumle in my opinion due to the ever so great possible upgrades and ease of easier use of these machines marches yet farther into the audio inner/outer stratosphere. I also must ad if reading there are right now absolutely great choices of gear...some demos going off the shelf while preparing for the new releases as well as refurb gear and on and on and on&on. If you choice separates it does not always mean better audio. Trust me on this. I do have multiple seperate surround sound gear and integrated gear. It is purly the way you use it. Another big factor i never read in your thread was your choice of playback material...what type of playback gear will be installed/attached to your new avr. Some very important factors to take in to consideration when choosing a flagship or beginning of the line avr or whatever gear. cheers..best to you on your wonderful venture. it is such a very fun one indeed

I THINK the original paper in oils from the earliest of days up through the 60s are probably the PCB oil types. They then went to Mylar in oil, which is what we are normally used to seeing, and what Youthman has on his. DJK says the original cans are hermetically sealed with glass, which is pretty cool.

I have a Pioneer 1373k 7.1 that I am increasingly fond of.

Denon here. The upper Denon models usually spec out at the head of the pack in bench tests. I like the fact that their upper models are built in Japan instead of China. I agree... I still prefer "Made in Japan" vs "Made in China".

Next youth will be grabbing one of these off a craigslist deal for a few hundred bucks. Heck they will probably throw in some free speakers or cabling and probably take him to dinner with his luck! Love the guy though and happy to see him with those in his theater. I gotta make it down there soon
