  1. 500, sure you can recoup money when you go bigger, and you will, 1000 for a pair? no way! trust us all when we say buy what you want. stop trying to cheap out lol. if you wanna save some money find a used svs ultra or used subversive. they both would destroy a sun fire. you have gone big on the rest of your setup why stop at the sub. after the center it is the second most important speaker in the home theater. completely changes the experience if its lacking compared to the rest of the setup. my opinion of course.

  2. Yeah, we ALL feel sorry for you, having to suffer with $13k worth of year-old top-of-the-line Klipsch speakers. I was thinking about buying the entire set, but I think now I'll just stick with my Bose 301's...in your honor, Mr. Beeker.

  4. That is the exact reason I came to this forum just about a month ago. I had just acquired a pair of 20 year-old CF-4's and they needed major refurbishing. I had never done any refinishing before these speakers, so I was totally in the dark. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/149241-epic-cf4-needs-overhaul/ I got incredibly good support and advice from the Klipsch forumites, and I didn't touch those speakers without consulting them on every little move. My speakers took a LOT of time, all sanded by hand, but I think they turned out pretty decent. You can check out my thread for recommendations on what grit sandpaper works for what purpose when working on this veneer. Edit: I just saw Mr. Mustang Guy's post, directly upstream. He and I met "off-air" in the last week, and I got a chance to see his restoration work. THAT is the guy you want to listen to! +++ Secret coded message to Mr. Mustang Guy: "The dryer is drying the towels, the dryer is drying the towels." Decoded, this means you were exactly correct about me switching the wires.

  5. Even with an orbital sander you have to be very careful. The best method is plain old block sanding. Make sure you know the depth of your veneer before sanding. Start by using rough sandpaper like 120 grit letting it do the work (don't press down while sanding), then move to a finer grit sandpaper like 220-400 grit. After that oil or otherwise finish. If you want to get a finish that looks like a gun stalk, very shiny and durable, look into tung oil and use either 0000 steel wool or 600 grit wet-sand paper.

  13. Remove the old cap, put the new one in by whatever means necessary. Be sure they're secure with hot glue, tie strap, etc. Be sure the values on the caps are facing up so they can be read in the future if necessary. I'm sure more people will chime in.

  14. It can be done, but not with a modern factory car that has front struts. A lot of guys used to pull the front shocks off of their drag beaters to get more weight transfer to help with traction. The problem with this is too much power is being lost in this big weight shift instead of propelling the car forward. With modern four link rear suspensions and adjustable coil over shocks for the rear, racers can adjust how much squat they need without breaking the tires loose...(although its still a fine line). Pro Stock race cars produce 6 G's on takeoff compared to 4 G's on a 8000 horsepower Top Fuel rail. Even then, the Pro stockers don't want to pull the tires off the ground. A properly setup drag car doesn't want to pull the tires. http://youtu.be/dkF1qwnBIsM Why cant I embed this video?

  15. I bet its not quantity as much as the quality of the power. I'd love to hear what a Palladium user found when powering those babies with quality tube gear for "2 channel" music. If its anything like the way RF-7's respond it would be a real treat.

  16. Nope, nothing street legal stock will. Roger Have you tried? Guessing you can get standard transmission nowadays but...alright then. Have you seen my avatar?? That is MY all aluminum 427 SOHC FORD. I am Ford as they come and there is nothing on the lot I haven't driven Ford. Roger Yes I did see avatar. Heck of a block on that 427. Coming from a GM guy, that is praise. As said earlier, I am probably wrong but, the fun is in trying to lift even 1 inch. My brother had a stock 265 then 283 55 stocker that he used to blow the doors of of 441,426,427's and 289 in the 60's so, without getting into a GM versus Ford thing. The driver is what counts. That said, yes, it is hard to defy physic and gravity. Some would say impossible. Thanks for your feedback.

  17. No stock vehicle will lift the front wheels on stock tires, they will spin before that will happen. If slicks are used on a sticky drag strip that Shelby could probably lift the front briefly using an aggresive launch.

  18. Carl Zeiss, German. They've been around a long time. The lenses are things of beauty, sharp as a tack. Gorgeous glass, and heavy. Only downside is lack of auto-focus for many OEM models, but I'm ok with that most days. Until my eyes start to go, ha. After Christmas, I was stocked up with Amazon gift cards, so I splurged. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't drop that kind of cash. All my other lenses are Canon, except my 70mm-300mm, which is a Tamron (with image stabilization). I'm very happy with that one for the price. I take most of my wildlife shots with it:

  29. When I asked someone who knows me for an estimate on refinishing the basement several years ago he responded that it would be expensive, unless I had tried to do some of the work myself in which case it would be VERY expensive. Guess it was clear as to why he responded as he did.

  35. Awe c'mon, I've spent almost $20,000 on NEW Klipsch products over the last decade, and I've probably saved hundreds of Cornwalls by having The Cornwall shipping container (Vault) built. I also contribute to extending the life of Klipsch products, both old and new. Finally, my name, as well as that of Bob Crites, Al Klappenberger, Dave Harris, and Craig Otsby - can't even be used in a sentence without uttering the sacred Klipsch name. Besides, all I have are camera phones for pictures, a pair of sawed in half and glued back together RB-61s that came out of your lab, and I live with a bunch of pack ratters and I would need a shovel to even find my system. Please reevaluate your poster criteria. : )

  36. The point was that they replaced a GFCI breaker with a normal breaker. GFIC breakers are usually (depending on size) much more expensive than GFIC outlets but sometime easier to install. One GFIC outlet can replace any of the outlets on a circuit and it covers all other outlets/receptacles on that circuit, just as the GFIC breaker does.

  39. Old set up New set up WHEN/WHY YOU FIRST HEARD OF KLIPSCH: Frankly... I do not remember when I first heard of the Klipsch brand, suffice to say it was more than a decade ago. What I do distinctly remember was, that after purchasing my first pair of Klipsch Heresys, there was little doubt in my mind that I made the correct choice. WHERE & WHERE YOU MADE YOUR PURCHASE: For me, price was an issue when buying my first pair of Klipsch Heresys... and as part of my search for a "good" pair of stereo speakers, I gravitated to the Heresy's that were on the secondary market. Purchased from eBay from a nice gentleman who lived back east, I remember the excitement as I opened the boxes. THE SETUP: Set up has been a journey to say the least... many incantations have existed, but always in a fashion where I am only changing small parts of the whole set up at any given time. Thankfully, it has been a path that has almost always taken me forward, and rarely backwards, in terms of sound quality and listening satisfaction. I have stayed away from Tube based main amplification mainly because of lack of intimate knowledge, though I do run a "Parks" Tube based Pre Amp for my Phono-stage. To this point, with the absolute blackness and superb clean sound of the main power amps I am running, injunction with their extreme "Musicality", I have felt little need to make the change to Tube based amp's... though it is not out of the question in the future. MAIN SPEAKERS: Modified Klipsch Cornwall CENTER CHANNEL: RC-64ii... blended thru eq'ing to come into line (as much as possible) with the Cornwall mains in terms of Timbre. SUBWOOFER: Klipsch SW-115 RECEIVER: Pioneer SC-35... I came to the "Ice" based SC-35 after trying many class A-A/B amps. I love the extremely low/black noise floor of Class D amplification. AMPLIFIER: Bel Canto Ref500M... Based on reputation and Class D layout. MEDIA CABINETS: No cabinets but Drexel mid century solid walnut stacked end tables

  45. I haven't owned my K's for very long, but I still get the urge to break out the table saw and buy a set of Jamboree plans. Then the next day I'm surfing around and say, "I don't need new speaks, I need a amp to compliment my setup." The next day, its, I don't need any of that stuff, I really need a few room treatment panels. By Friday, I sit down, put on something good and realize just how good my system sounds to my ears and say to myself, "I actually need nothing.....except another glass of Bourbon" Perhaps I need to start drinking
