Picture below (Before Horns were Painted Gold) showing how Stands support Driver and Horn. I am only selling this Altec System, because I have ‘upgraded’ to an Oris Horn System that cost me about $6 Grand. I happily lived with the Altec Horn Midrange for 8 years. I would prefer local pickup, as I do not have any shipping materials for this system. But if someone is willing to pay for Professional Packing and Shipping at a UPS store, I will ship to the U.S. or Canada. The Drivers are Massive weighing in at 30 pounds apiece! I am located in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area of Minnesota.

  8. Wow yours are growing much faster, you must have gotten them in the ground a lot sooner. I just got mine in, last week. The thing about cherry tomatoes is that they ripen a few at a time so unless they are for salads what do you do with them? Would take a bunch just to make a sandwich Mine have been in the pots for a month. Planting time here is around good Friday for warm weather crops. Wait to you see dtel's tomatoes

  9. There should be some kind of law, you should have to have some by a certain age, I think there is a law in Texas. Pork butt it really good but a brisket done well is just unbelievable, if you go to a BBQ place ask for some burnt ends from the brisket, there better than good. Making me hungry again Duder takes a mean pic of food. First rate fare, IMstomach's opinion.

  13. The best listening location at an outdoor concert (that has sound reinforcement) is always near the soundman, who is generally located in the sound booth which is (usually) some tarp covered scaffolding either on a center line some distance from the front of the stage or off to one side. That being said, I'd like to convey two of these outdoor concert experiences, both at the Chicago Blues Festival. On one occasion I was standing near the sound booth which was off to the side at this particular stage. Behind me and to my right was the Gibson guitar sponsor showcase trailer. They had their own sound system hooked up & playing music that had nothing to do with the live performance. The sound was really, really bad and very annoying. Finally, in frustration I turned around & was about to complain loudly when I saw what was making all the racket. It was a Bose column system. "That figures". And then decided it wasn't worth complaining about and went to the other side. The other, more peculiar instance that day was in the Petrillo band shell area where they have a large cordoned off seating area. I was standing along side the sound booth. After a while security comes up to me and says "Sir, you can't stand here". I ask "Why not"? He says "This is a seating area only. You'll have to take a seat." OK, I go find a seat. A little while later security comes up to me again and says I can't sit there because its reserved. "I don't see any reserved sign". Yes, I know, but it's reserved. So then I go to the very back where there is a standing only area. After a while security comes up and says "Sir, you can't stand here". By now I'm getting a little pissed. Told him what has happened so far and asked "So, why can't I stand here." He says "This is a smoking only area." (I don't smoke). I turn to the guy next to me and ask for a cigarette, and he lights me up. I turn to the security guy & said "You go tell your ****ing boss that if I have move one more time I'm going to stick this cigarette up his $ss". True story. Unfortunately Johnny Winter sucked so I wound up leaving early anyway.

  15. I don't know I'm with duder, we had a late frost so I waited a little, there only probably about 1 to 1.5 feet right now. But I did plant 4 cherry tomatoes also, last time the cherries didn't do so well. Also 8 regular tomatoes 4 bell peppers, 6 cucumbers, 4 Japanese eggplants. It's not a big garden about 6x 20 raised. Years ago we did big gardens, but it's way to much work especially if it only me doing the work. I like tpo plant corn also but every time I do we have a drought and they get 3' tall and stop. The grandkids like them but usually I just eat them when there ready as I walk by.

  16. I did order it, got the PA-150 for 399.00 shipped. I spoke to Mike at Acoustic Sound Design and asked if this was the best sub for under $600 (the max I wanted to spend on a sub) for clean and low bass I could feel - he said 100% yes. I suppose I could return it if I'm not happy but yea, I want to feel the bass in movies. I also will still have my Infinity sub hooked up. I really couldn't find any sub for under 600 that had great db in the lower HZ. All the others on that list were >1500 dollars. I would love one that performed well in the 12-16hz - I just don't think they are under 2k. Do you know of any?

Built khorns,Jubilees and a few other little projects with help of the combined brain trust of this fantastic web site. Hope all is well with everyone. Let's keep the info flowing for the younger audiophiles. All is well Big D

  26. That's why people put braces in or stiffen the sides. It's also why the newer Lascalas have wider material on the sides of the cabinets. I crossed mine over to a sub at about 70 Hz. it got rid of the buzz and I kept the stock appearance.
    1 point
  27. I think that is the reason... If it was a loose part I think it would keep buzzing no matter what. It must be the resonant frequency of the cabinet. Do you know what frequency is it buzzing at?

  28. For those that have never heard them... what I was once told by Jim Hunter is if you can tame the sidewalls, they will sound as though they have another octave (perhaps an overstatement?) of bass in them, much like the LaScala II. He said they actually HAVE that sound already but the buzzing panels destroys it. Fixing the panels will make them sound much closer to the LaScala II in depth of bass. I'm game for a template.

  29. I wish I was better at describing sound but for me it was a huge improvement. My LaScalas had spent their life in a choir loft as speakers for an organ and the cabinets were quite dry with some veneer peeling at the corners. It is safe to assume the panels had shrunken a bit. They resonated horribly and the bass was quite flabby... you might even say they were flatulent! I inserted the wedges for a few months and just fitting them by friction made a difference. When I finally glued/sealed the cabinets and installed screws from both sides of the wedges it made the bass - mid-bass MUCH tighter and more clear.

The price couldn't be beat so it was a no brainer. Thanks again for the recommendation. Now I just need to return the Icons to Best Buy .

  42. Stones fans are rockers, city slickers, hippies and cool cats. Willie fans are hillbillies, cowboys, rednecks and outlaws. I am a big fan of both. I better not comment further. The law may be reading. End note. I was at a Waylon and Willie concert back in my university days. My parents were both there with me. They smelled something burning... Guess what it was? LOL
