  1. Many of you, I am certain, will have a great appreciation regarding this commencement address. Sometimes these exercises are worth it.....

  2. The "New" toys are in the cave, using the newly acquired scalas (w/old xovers) wired with my existing pair, im "there". Bells, well this is a different animal, by the time I pulled them off my truck into the cave, the wife no longer wishes to even hear them. Talk about Khorns spoiling her, yeah that's pretty much what happened, she does not want me to touch the Khorns. I fired up the Bells first thing sunday, they are the standard well taken care of 30 year old + - find, they work well, just not in the man cave, two pairs of Scalas works well right now. The wife's old Chorus are on the Bay, and it's looking like the Bells will follow. The game plan worked well, I figured if I bought one pair of each kick azz Klipsch, the wife could make her choice, she did, and is elated at the outcome, and I ended up with a new pair of scalas.

  3. Looking very nice Mark! Glad you are both home safely with the 2 pairs. Interesting choice on keepers and sellers...I believe I can understand why. Very nice use of sources to get the best possible. Nice to see your having everlasting fun! Cheers!

  4. Yeah, I'm not active in that thread. I already get enough emails from Klipsch to keep me unproductive throughout the day.

  5. Hopefully I can figure out how to post my rose bushes when they bloom. Man i have to say it appears we have to trim them back way further than ever before...We gave 1 of the 3 to my mom although the other 2 are usually beautiful....All the flowers are a bit weird here in northern indiana at the moment...farmers are planting still even today we seen a couple soy fields getting what appears to be a late start. I dont know much about farms but my wifes family has 1500 acres so im learning a little. Slowly

  9. To my understanding tapped horns have lower distortion output than direct radiating models but higher distortion than full horn loaded models. Unfortunately there are tradeoffs to every design.

  10. Get a good kitchen knife. Sharpen it before you use it. Wash it, dry and sharpen after you use it. Sharpen before and after each usage. Keep it where the blade does not touch any surfaces. It will always be plenty sharp for kitchen applications.

  11. I glued and screwed the extra wood to the sides. The internal braces are lighter and may be easier to install. The choice would depend on how you want the cabinet to look. I like the appearance of the thick wood sidewall.

  12. How far is your main seating position from screen? If it is 8ft or less, maybe some slight issues, more than that you should be fine. It is obvious you are not trying to blow anyone out of their seat with a huge wall of sound. Bill

  13. Maintenance costs? Idiot hooligans with sledge hammers or other forms of vandalism? Kids finding vulnerabilities and hacking? We can't even keep HWY lines painted or shredded tires off the road, much less keeping the reflectors replaced when needed. I guess in Utopia this would be ideal, so to speak. No way our Gub'ment takes on something like this, we can't even be competitive building basic solar panels with total funding behind Uncle Sam. I DO however like the idea a lot and although I would much rather have a personal solar setup on my roof, this idea has legs and may end up branching into other avenues for the times to come.

  21. Gerry C, Welcome to the forum and thank you for your reply. I have not yet pulled the trigger on the Dragonfly v1.0 but will very soon. Funny thing is that music from my desktop PC to my Onkyo receiver sounds pretty good with the stock built in soundcard. Bill

  22. Maybe I was wrong on the market value of the RSW-15. I thought it was around $900. I know they don't come up for sale locally very often. Think I've seen 2 in my area in the past 5 years. It's definitely by far the best subwoofer I've ever heard and owned. Yes, I will likely sell my RSW-15 to fund the replacement horn sub.

  25. The best listening location at an outdoor concert (that has sound reinforcement) is always near the soundman, who is generally located in the sound booth which is (usually) some tarp covered scaffolding either on a center line some distance from the front of the stage or off to one side. That being said, I'd like to convey two of these outdoor concert experiences, both at the Chicago Blues Festival. On one occasion I was standing near the sound booth which was off to the side at this particular stage. Behind me and to my right was the Gibson guitar sponsor showcase trailer. They had their own sound system hooked up & playing music that had nothing to do with the live performance. The sound was really, really bad and very annoying. Finally, in frustration I turned around & was about to complain loudly when I saw what was making all the racket. It was a Bose column system. "That figures". And then decided it wasn't worth complaining about and went to the other side. The other, more peculiar instance that day was in the Petrillo band shell area where they have a large cordoned off seating area. I was standing along side the sound booth. After a while security comes up to me and says "Sir, you can't stand here". I ask "Why not"? He says "This is a seating area only. You'll have to take a seat." OK, I go find a seat. A little while later security comes up to me again and says I can't sit there because its reserved. "I don't see any reserved sign". Yes, I know, but it's reserved. So then I go to the very back where there is a standing only area. After a while security comes up and says "Sir, you can't stand here". By now I'm getting a little pissed. Told him what has happened so far and asked "So, why can't I stand here." He says "This is a smoking only area." (I don't smoke). I turn to the guy next to me and ask for a cigarette, and he lights me up. I turn to the security guy & said "You go tell your ****ing boss that if I have move one more time I'm going to stick this cigarette up his $ss". True story. Unfortunately Johnny Winter sucked so I wound up leaving early anyway.

  26. Nice Boxx! Where is Tigerman? Need him to cook something we can drool over! I will be having another steak and corn on the cob. Not to waste charcoal I cooked two last night. Inexpensive little steaks called Chuck Eyes or Denver steaks. Flavorful. Hard to cook for one and lady friend is away.

  27. I don't know I'm with duder, we had a late frost so I waited a little, there only probably about 1 to 1.5 feet right now. But I did plant 4 cherry tomatoes also, last time the cherries didn't do so well. Also 8 regular tomatoes 4 bell peppers, 6 cucumbers, 4 Japanese eggplants. It's not a big garden about 6x 20 raised. Years ago we did big gardens, but it's way to much work especially if it only me doing the work. I like tpo plant corn also but every time I do we have a drought and they get 3' tall and stop. The grandkids like them but usually I just eat them when there ready as I walk by.

  28. The race is half over. The track is hot. Between 117 and 121 depending on who you listen to. Some tires are blistering, and there are a lot of spoiler adjustments being made to increase downforce due to the hot track. Our #67 is in the 27th position at this time, and posted a lap speed of 222 MPH. that is very good. http://racecontrol.indycar.com/ edit: I'm not sure, I think Josef is out. My man Helio is in a strong 2nd.

  29. Wow yours are growing much faster, you must have gotten them in the ground a lot sooner. I just got mine in, last week. The thing about cherry tomatoes is that they ripen a few at a time so unless they are for salads what do you do with them? Would take a bunch just to make a sandwich Mine have been in the pots for a month. Planting time here is around good Friday for warm weather crops. Wait to you see dtel's tomatoes

  30. There should be some kind of law, you should have to have some by a certain age, I think there is a law in Texas. Pork butt it really good but a brisket done well is just unbelievable, if you go to a BBQ place ask for some burnt ends from the brisket, there better than good. Making me hungry again Duder takes a mean pic of food. First rate fare, IMstomach's opinion.

  35. Nice! Would you say their scale is large even at normal listening volumes? Large effortless sound is the best way I can describe them. Im sure you get what im saying being that you have heard them. You're right. Main reason I ask is to see if you felt the same way. My inner hope is if/when you see people thinking on upgrading from X to W, you might also enlighten them as to your experiences. Point: I've suggested folks jump up to the 2" horns. I've been told I carry that on endlessly. Interestingly, I never witness folks (endlessly) suggesting about other upgrades getting called out. Be it as it may... matters not to me. As you've now seen.... do you want to buy a new amp to upgrade? How about new wires? Maybe a new crossover? Having done every one of those myself, I feel they all pale in comparison to stepping up to larger format horns (space & budget willing of course) I personally think (and operate under the guidelines of) someone should start big and go down the stairs until they hit their point of acceptance. I think 'starting slow' and upgrading capacitors.... then maybe wires (or something else).... then amps.... is simply an inefficient way of doing things and in the long run can be more expensive. Leaving all as is and going from residential speakers to large format....well.... as you can see/hear..... is quite a singular & substantial jump. One in my mind that again, makes more sense if someone can swing it than some of the other choices. For those guys offering horn upgrades, I've never heard them and if someone is considering them I always suggest they go with the 2" format (so I'm not downplaying any vendors however I do like keeping my stuff all Klipsch)

  38. Tube fanatic: Thank you for the thread, about dam time these total scams were exposed for what they are. The Outlet in the Pic does not even appear to be "Hospital Grade" and to date, quality wise, those are the best construction money can buy. Gold plating a paper clip does not make it work better. My visits to AudioPhile stores have NEVER been pleasant, knowing Ohm's Law, I saw one of those "Pretty Outlets" a few years back, cannot say I ever really pay a never mind to things in glass cases, I was just looking around the store and spotted some common household outlets that were "Gold Plated"! and one, was priced @ $245 !, so about that time one of the employees ask me if he can help, looking at these outlets I was speechless. I simply ask these fellow, just what makes that outlet worth $245?, I was told, well sir, it's "AudioPhile Grade" Now wait just a dam min here, do you mean to tell me if I gold plate something, this "AudioPhile Cult" will gladly pay it ? He simply stated, Yes. 22 years ago one of my gigs in the OC was a Lic Electrican, go BS someone else.

  39. Dreadneck13, Where are you located?? Most would jump in and say yes, but only you know how much you can afford to spend?? I suggest you list where you are and see if a forum member with a reference system will invite you over for a listen. How big is your listening room?? Used Heritage sounds even better and can be had for even less if you have the space and your wife doesn't mind the look. Roger

  46. Thanks for the good read here. When first thinking of an outdoor concert, I at first hearkened to the past Pop Concert or Rock Festival concerts of the past where, you are basically with the crowd looking toward the stage, elevated somewhat from your listening level which although higher, is diminshed in height the farther away from it you can choose to be. Along with the inevitable PA towers on either side of the stage typically higher still. The amphitheater approach of the past on the other hand, is interesting in that, basically because of the say, half moon shape, ascending in the rear, for accomadting a listening position, higher than the typical flatland music festival. Interesting also that the modern approach is basically mimmicking in design, the theaters of old, in that even without amplification, or little amplification, a speaker can reach all of the listening positions with clarity. The indoor music venue, at least some of them,(the Jacksonville Coliseum was like in shape) also are/were shaped after the older, time proven design. In my case, I came as a viewer, listener, and was totally impressed, or the opposite depending upon the acoustics, or lack thereof, of all three forms of entertainment places. Thanks again...
