Morning Motely Crue, anything exciting today. Not much here, though I feel like there is something I have to do today. Anyway beautiful morning out there, after I finish my emails. I am heading to the deck to enjoy my coffee. Well we'll see you after a bit. Its Saturday and the bathroom is down the hall and to the left.2 points

Mornin Gang Road Trip ! Bay area run, and that means Napa/wine run. Taking the wife's Toyota and that means, No speaker acquiring, none, nada, zero, zip. Iv just been informed by the wife, Napa isn't even close to where we are going, so that tells me being retired, I not only lost sense of time/day, lets add direction to that. So I ask the wife, well just what is out there besides beer and Crab ?, not much, her response. We will come home the "Winging it Method", where we don't return the same way we got there.2 points

If you don't want to see the work in progress it is ok with me... You can do a drop and run if you like. Just let me know before you get here... Or maybe I should not say anything and if you want to see it I will show you and your wife. No, what I ment was we will take your tour, you know I just got to see the HT. it's kind of more like a surprise for the wife. OK... Just remember it is a construction zone (a mess). 11am.2 points

Wife came home and we cracked into that $40 Reisling wine, not really being into fine wine, this stuff is great, looks like the road trips will be involving wine detours from here out. And now iv got a nip on her listed Chorus, could be a good day2 points

Ellis, I have not, and will not, tell the wife anything about your build, because as soon as she hears "Pond", Im going to find myself at HomeDepot before the week is out, I'll just let you do the grand tour, I already know im doomed.2 points

Like a giant burger, meatloaf smokes really well, did one for my son in law once, now every time he comes over he brings ground beef to make another he likes it so much. I usually put some foil under it to make sure I can remove it in one piece, he likes it with a couple of eggs and good Italian bread crumbs and other seasoning mixed in the beef and some sliced onions on top as it cooks. It is good2 points

What I got today, my wife was concerned when the UPS driver used a 2 wheeler to deliver it. What a heavy beast. A little fixer upper but as long as the transformer, and autoformers are good, it shouldn't be nothing that can't be fixed. I all so received my Crown D45 I purchased from JWC, I didn't take pics yet but did get it hooked up and it sounds really good.2 points

I just received notice that my new turntable is finished and will be on it’s way across the Atlantic. Very much looking forward to the arrival! I have always thought that the idler drive intuitively made a lot of sense. I have been spending a bit of time on the Lenco Heaven website with the idea that I would refurbish a Lenco as project. Along the way I discovered Peter Reinder who machines and builds new bearings and top plates that are the basis for many high end rebuilds in the Lenco DIY community. Turns out that he also builds complete turntables using the basic guts of old Lencos. Doing my research it became clear that rebuilding a Lenco to the standard that would compete with my current set up was well beyond my skill set. I contacted Peter and the next thing I know he’s building one for me! Reviews of his turntables can be found here http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/lenco2/1.html http://www.stereophile.com/content/listening-126 This is kind of a back to the future for me. In the 70s I owned a Lenco and I was always amazed that I thought records on my Lenco sounded better when compared to much pricier options. I never gave it much thought as to why that would be the case. Shoot I really didn’t know what an idler drive was! Once it arrives and I get it dialed in I will certainly post my impressions.1 point

I don't know if gain structure is proper, but here is what I have and want to know. If there is some readings I don't mind reading as long as they get to the point and make since to common folk like. But my pre has a volume knob, my minidsp has gain, and my amps have gain. How do I go about setting these to sound good. What I mean(not that I do this to my in home system), but in my Jeep I turned the receiver all the way up on the volume control, even did this with just a seperates system I had recently. Then turn the power amp up until it starts to distort and back if off. That way I have maxium out put my speakers can handle, with no distortion. The nice thing about this, is if one of the kids comes by and turns the volume knob up, it will get loud but not blow my speakers. But know I have added the minidsp and a second amp in. My thought would be match the hf/lf within db levels using either the gain the minidsp or the power amps. Which in a since is how I have it, now I have it with the amps all the way, and adjust the gain as necessary with the minidsp to match the hf levels to the lf levels. I hope I didn't make this confusing like I seem to do. Help is all ways appreciated, as I think I am getting closer and closer.1 point

I almost forgot about your theater build. Glad to see you are still plugging along!1 point

Now that we've moved into a place that has much more favorable acoustics, my system really has the Panasonic feature-set maxed out. At this point, I could really use the EQ and resolution of the DSP features available in the Pioneer product. The extra 3 dB of horse power in the engine room wouldn't hurt either, but I'm really at the end of the rope in terms of processing capability with the Panasonic with such a big room. Especially in combination with the different speakers. Might be splitting hairs sonically, but it's time for me practice what I preach, and officially step into the D3 arena.1 point

I use a 40.00 weber knock off, we grill every couple few days I figured out a way to get the boys to eat carrots using the grill place aluminum down put in a few carrots, add butter, then sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar, grill for about 1 hour and enjoy tonight on the grill I will be cooking boneless skinless chicken breast, pork chops, and the old standby hotdogs, with the carrots and baked potatoes I believe this will also call for a loaf of fresh baked bread Your all invited1 point

I do want to be clear, I am not using a avr, but a tube preamp. Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk1 point

Home Theater and Sound & Vision merged late last year and now is under Sound & Vision. Not bad for under a buck an issue (subscription). Stereophile is more true audio and pretty in depth with their reviews and cover tube, SS, turntables, vinyl, etc... It is very reasonable too at a subscription point.1 point

The amp at 200 watts /ch is never using any where close to it max output so distortion is not a problem. The preamp voltage is adjusted in autocalibration so the amp turly is not turned all the way up. The avr can be turned past 0 db reference level but, under the MCACC control it can be limited not to go pass 0 db reference level.1 point

Very nice! Creative ideas too! That was a cool idea for using the old wood. How will you keep the humidity down in the sunroom? I won't be showing this to my wife either!1 point

Now I'm getting worried, you could try it but you might be the one needing the rescue after that question, or she may start calling around to get prices on installing rubber on the cave walls and one of those pretty white jackets for you. Or get three more stacks and buy an empty field and open a drive in theater but for lounge chairs ? As they pay Just stamp there hands as they come in.1 point

Man! how are you going to cover shipping to the East Coast for only $450? Ah, my man, Earl, no there aint no shipping except from her garage to the curb. or maybe my truck bed for a short trip. They have been sitting and wired in "Her" garage for the last week, I think she is tired of looking at them. All things are relative. To an astronaut contemplating a trip to Mars, Ithaca is just a hop, skip and a jump. Mark, you think of yourself as an astronaut don't you? Well being retired, and in this hobby, able to jump into the truck and go fetch just about anything I want anywhere I want, guess I am sort of an astronaut.1 point

Mornin gang, before even my first cup, greeting the wife as she wakes up, she say's adjust the price of her Chorus's, she said move them on out. So on the CL/Ebay ill drop to $450 OBO, she has always held firm on getting what she paid for them, I think she has the Thunder Valley Bug.1 point

So my bud steve just called told me he had to go to his kids school at the last min. I told him he had a bar tab, he says whats new. Told him I try out the hair cut again next week, and this time ill start the tab first, he reply's: that's a motivator to get over there.1 point

"People are indeed strange" I have just gotten back home after having lunch and drinking for 3 1/2 hours and the host never arrived. Long story as short as possible: Steve owns a barber shop, we are bud's do favors back and forth for years. Today I go down for a cut, having a payin customer in his chair I wait my turn. Just when one guy gets done another payin customer comes in, I tell steve. im going over to the pub and start You a tab, steve, sure ill be right there. 3 hours later I walk over to the shop, closed up and gone, ya know im starting to get a little buzzed here and im not hangin around. So I come home, wifes here, crackin one of those fancy $50 wines we just bought on the LA speaker run. chit, good day I guess.1 point

That's a good deal all the way around. We got a large dog who just was not happy living with us. Tore up my screen door, chewed up my garden hoses. But when he was with my brother he was very well behaved. They would go out drinking together. Whiskey from the same bottle. Doing loops in an airplane (Just Once). That dog would ride anything at least once. He used to sit on the back of the honda 750 doing about 100 mph and grin from ear to ear. My brother and him got along so well that I told my brother to take him. He would be happier. He became very well behaved except for Saturday morning when he would run off to our dad's house for Pan Cakes and bacon. Sounds like a smart dog, I think I would have went with him on Saturday mornings. I think some dogs are just to smart for there own good, the little shelter dog we have now is a min-pin, it has done very well to train me to whatever he wants, my wife just laughs and says he only does that to you because he knows he can get away with it. It's true1 point

Wife and I will be spending the 4th in Reno again this year, so if there is anything anyone needs picked up, you have two weeks to search the CL and get it paid for. I will be selling that klipsch sub on the 5th, so I must be there. Don't nobody go getting a set of Khorns, remember to keep in mind just how im going to get the item in question to you. We will likely be taking her Toyota, unless of course the load requires a truck, but then again shipping comes to mind.1 point

I will have a 3" border on mine, so I was thinking that I should be ok. I just haven't tried a recess that far in. Maybe I should screw my recessed screen wall when I tie into the false walls on either side for the front speakers, so I can undo it easier and move it up some if I need to, I suppose. I just thought I would ask you experts, in case anybody had found out the hard way from a previous install how far was "too far" for the recess distance.1 point
