I have always loved music and watching movies but until a few months ago I always just bought what was in the big box stores for my home set up not really knowing about the other world of higher quality set ups. I was home sick for a week a few months back and had plenty of time on the tablet while stuck on the couch so i started reading about the speakers the speakers I had at the time (Synergy F1) and bi-amping. This led me to the forums here and I started reading about the Reference line of speakers which really got me interested in upgrading. I pulled the trigger last week and bought a pair of Rf-82s and a Rc-62. I could not be happier with my set up, even my 80 year old parents like them (at a lower level of course ). We watched Lone Survivor as the first movie and the depth and quality of the sound is just amazing. My wife and I pick an hour each week and just sit and listen to one album with no phones or gadgets on. We try and pick an album the other person has not listened to in the past. Listening on the new set up has really opened our eyes about what a difference a decent set up can make, I hear things in the music I never heard before. I can only imagine what some of your set ups sound like with even better equipment. Thanks to the people on here for talking about and recommending Acoustic Sound Designs, I did call and order from them and received a great price with quick delivery.3 points

Happy fathers day. My son is out of state camping and my daughter stayed over at a friends house, looks like a quiet day for me.3 points

Got chocolade croissants for breakfast today, baked by our youngest son [10 years old] and self-made coupons from our oldest [11years old] for various things; "helping dad chopping wood" and "getting dad a beer" . Hooray for fathers day !3 points

Just got a new Optoma HD131xe projector, $720 from Amazon, very nice picture. Enjoy your setup.2 points

JWC is the person who told me about those amps, Thank You for that and much more. He suggested the D-75's which I tried two of and are still using them today and feel no need to change. I have to say if you ever have the chance to meet him do yourself a favor and meet him. You can look at all my post and see I don't just say things like that, but JC is one of the smartest people I have ever met and couldn't be nicer. I know others who know him well would say the same thing, this is no BS. I hope he don't read this, but it's true.2 points

Thanks to an Alert in Garage Forum earlier this week, I purchased a nice pair of Chorus I speakers from Ebay. I just brought them home today after a 5.5 hour round trip drive. It was well worth the drive for me, as they are as nice as described in Ebay listing. I currently have them hooked up to a Parasound based system. Not certain what I will end up driving them with. I snapped a few photos of speakers tonight. I'll take a few more tomorrow after I've cleaned them up a bit. I've had several Heritage speakers in past, but believe these may be the "optimum" model for me - given my room requirements.1 point

One can indeed be certified as a madman, but not as a genius. PWK was certainly an eccentric genius. But a madman? No. I hate advertising.1 point

Agree with you. I would think "maverick" might be a more complimentary term than "madman."1 point

I like my 30's as is. And .. I've been fortunate that I haven't had the cabinet probs some folks have had. One early reviewer called them the best rock 'n roll speaker ever and I tend to agree. They still get a lot of HT action in our house. If I wanted to do that much modding I think I'd just get another set of speakers more to my liking. Hope you are happy with the result, though.1 point

Relax day on the Bay shopping for my Three band active crossover, and somehow that don't sound cheap. we shall see.1 point

its not about megapixel at all anymore. you could buy a 7 year old top of the line full frame from nikon and it would take better pics than my d7000. also just cause it has higher iso doesnt mean that it performs as good at higer iso like the 7000 does. in all reality we are talking about a company selling something. look at it like companies blowing up numbers on rms output on avr's. its the same thing really.1 point

If you have the space try taking the Chorous's outside and let them sing a bit. I tried that with KP-301s which is the pro version of the Chorous. At a hundred yards away it souded as if Glen Miller's orchersta was in my front yard.1 point

Yes, that was a nice little review you have going there. The Chorus was my first and we still have it. You even mentioned the bass in your comparison with 7ii's. Enjoy and if you keep them, remember the mod/recap can be done with the port holes and crossovers. First, a nice listening season is maybe in order if you want. Congrats!1 point

Billybob I agree - I would call it a total work horse/Jack of all trades kind of speaker! IMO nothing sounded bad at all - possibly some could sound better but it's a completely subjective evaluation. Works for all kinds of music very well!1 point

I just finished setting up the HT. Two Cornscalas for fronts, two Cornwalls for sides, and two LaScalas for rears. I still need a sub and a center (currently using a Heresy for center). VanHalen and Blackfoot sound awesome. The room is 14' x 30' with acoustic tiles. I may substitute the Forte II's for rears as the LaScalas seem overpowering.1 point

Good job on picking the wife, well done. Maby she picked you but either way she likes music and speakers, I like her already and I don't know her. I got lucky with the wife liking music and speakers also, from stories I have read here were already ahead of the game, that species is not all like that for sure.1 point

I finally got some time to sit down and listen to the Chorus's. They sound great! That's a scientific term. I'm a novices novice at this so please bear with my description. It's impressive to me that 20+ year old speakers can still sound so clean! I cleared 97dB without a hint of distortion and I think back to my HS days and the speakers I had - which I thought were awesome - and how I could start to make them sound like flatulence at moderate volumes but I was sure they were the pinnacle of audio world! (Google Panasonic Thrusters) Anyway the Chorus's are beasts in their own rite! They sounded simply wonderful with everything I put through them from Allison Krauss, to Toto, to Peter Cetera, to Metallica. I may have been bitten by the bug, I'd really like to hear LaScalas or KHorns now as this has at least piqued my interest. I like the Rf 7ii's better. That's probably a combination of familiarity bias and I think they're a little more punchy on the bass end. The 7ii's have a "tighter" sound and I like that. The Chorus, IMHO sounded better at volume then at lower levels (compared to themselves not the 7's), if I took more time, I'm sure I would hear more of their abilities and presence at lower volume, but for now this is all going into the theater room (see separate thread in the Architectural section of the theater build) and when I go down there to do music and movies it's usually going to be fairly loud. I think the Chorus sound is maybe a bit warmer and less "in your face" than the 7's. Overall - I'm glad I pulled the trigger! I am going to get the surrounds and center on Craigslist soon and this has been a good experience for me - maybe one day someone will sell a pair of LaScalas or horns up here...1 point

I hit 65 on Tuesday, but won't be able to retire for a long time. My wife and I are working to make a move to the Philippines if we can. If you are frugal, you can actually live comfortably on $12-$15k. We might be able to do that. You sure can't do that living in the States. Bruce1 point

They aren't that cool if you make one mad, they will attack. I knew an old lady who had about 6 geese that would stay in her yard and they were better than a watchdog and just as noisy, she would know if anyone got within 100 feet of the house.1 point

Edit; Jl beat me to it The 18-70 won't work on the D3300 ? If it does just buy the body and use your old lens. Not a terrible difference between 55 and 70 and you could always get another lens later. Nikon at one time had a 18-135 as the kit lens, I still use it, it's Ok nothing great but is very convenient. They are pretty cheap I think, or they were at one time ? I know Nikon make a few cameras that can use almost any lens and some models can use only certain lenses. Make sure the 3300 is one that can take the majority of the Nikon lenses, if not you will be stuck buying lenses that fit that model and if you switch cameras your old lenses will not work. This will make a big difference down the road, most people buy lenses to keep and switch out body's when they upgrade or one dies. Sorry I don't know if the 3300 is one that can use most lenses or not. I us a older D 80 and it can take most lenses1 point

HI Mark, nice to meet you and the missus. When you decide to make a pond... I suggest you make it at least 4' deep (deeper is better) to prevent the Herons from stopping over for lunch in your pond (unless you have it covered from the sky so they don't see it). One other thing is make the sides straight up and down without any plant shelves, as they will provide a way for predators to get in the pond. On the pond we had before this one we had it covered from the sky, and we used flagstone hanging over the edge a couple of inches... No predator problem as if you got in the pond you were going to die swimming since there was only one way into the pond area and the same way out. (predators want more than one way in or out of an area I hope your wife likes the wine. . When your project is complete, perhaps a movie invite in a year or two, im not letting you off light here, (I'll bring the Goose) Keep me informed as to your progress, and of course if there is anything I can do to support the build, just let me know what your looking for. And I mean anything, bounce it off me, you just never know what I can find. P.S. I wish to hear your response as to wearing "The Klipsch shirt" in public.1 point

Meatloaf seems to take smoke well, just check the internal temp to get it how you like. I do it so I don't accidently make it to dry. I just put seasoning without any kind of glaze because I want the smoke to get into the meat, but it still may get smoke may with a glaze I don't know ?1 point

Dude, I have a spreadsheet with acquisition dates, serial numbers, specs, cost, repairs/updates, est sale price, date sold etc.... sorted by speaker line. When I moved to this house I had a pair of CW and RC7, a couple pairs KSB1.1 in the gallery... I had to build a separate building for the 'collection'. (which differs from hoarding by some fine line that I've not been able to establish..).1 point

I believe they are also there to stop some of the internal diffraction / reflections from propagating out the horn. Opposed sides and sharp corners are not good. I believe that is one of the reasons that there was a lot of discussion on 30ppi reticulated foam in "Wave Guides". Has anyone gone down this path other than maybe djk from the sounds of it? I line the bottom side of my KLF-30's horn with 1/4" open cell foam and it appears to clean things up that I attributed to either the crossover point or tweeter. It was odd but works very well.1 point

Mornin Gang Road Trip ! Bay area run, and that means Napa/wine run. Taking the wife's Toyota and that means, No speaker acquiring, none, nada, zero, zip. Iv just been informed by the wife, Napa isn't even close to where we are going, so that tells me being retired, I not only lost sense of time/day, lets add direction to that. So I ask the wife, well just what is out there besides beer and Crab ?, not much, her response. We will come home the "Winging it Method", where we don't return the same way we got there.1 point

What I got today, .....FINELY rid of all excess Klipsch, a local chap just hauled away the wife's Chorus, and my sub goes to Reno in two weeks. This is a great day. she has her Khorns and is a happy camper, I have, um, the jury is still out on that one.....1 point

To me the plans are a guide and not the bible. If you can hear the difference between a panel that's braced at 8" and a panel that's 8 3/4" I'd call BS. I've proven that brace spacing of slightly over 8" works perfectly with no resonance whatsoever. . The Lascala has about a 2' span of unbraced paneling on the side. That's quite a bit different than what we're talking about here. Thanks but it's not needed.1 point
