  1. I'm a good 10-15 minutes away from emergency response and my closest neighbors are 200-300yds away with lots of trees between us. Not having suitable protection is not an option.

  2. And you probably never shot any of them either Not a one. Although I did practice with just two, a custom .45 and a .22 (neither of which is listed above). I'm surprised you hook your speakers up

  4. House is being painted again today. Our painters work from 10:00 to 3:00. No weekend work and no work if there is a hint of a possibility of a smidgeon of a chance of rain. Since the season is 5 months long, their work schedule is "relaxed" at best.

  5. Well thanks, considering I don't have money to throw at things I usually trust the people with real life experience to get the most from things at the best prices. Like this place, most of the time anyway.

  6. If management would listen to their employees, who have been there and done that, companies would be better off. Good call Eldon.

  8. I know what you meant. We had quite an unstable neighbor until a year or so ago. After being released from jail for beating up his elderly mother he came knocking on our door in the middle of the day while I was at work and my wife was alone with our newborn. By knocking I mean pounding on the door and yelling that he knew someone was home. As she huddled in the bedroom closet she could even hear him pop his head in the front door. I beat the police to my house and I was 30 minutes away. It turned out that he needed a jump on his truck or something, but his reputation and recent incarceration were enough for my wife to fear for her safety in that moment. Regardless, that is why we have such things and why everyone in the house is expected to be proficient. It's not so much a matter of fear, but preparedness and confidence in our ability to defend ourself in the absence of quick response times.

  11. Yes. 2008 K'horns and they do not look like these. I could not remember if you Ks or not, now that I know you do, are you running them with your tuber? Yes. I am running the K'horns with the VAC100/100. I will also be using the Blueberry preamp which Mark modified and is in transit. Lastly, I am using the Jolida CD. I am running a 7.1 with a Pioneer 7.1 including Cornwalls, LaScalas and Cornscalas. I am using a Heresy for the center and looking for a sub. Also, I am running the new LaScalas with the B&K and will be ating it with the modified Peach.

  13. Gun collecting is the "cheap" part now, it's the ammo that will break the bank! I used to be in law enforcement and one of the few things I miss of that job is shooting someone else's ammo. Nice pics all! A malfunctioning doorbell in the middle of the night would be unnerving to say the very least! As a former cop, I can say owning your own protection is SO wise! Too much can happen in too short a time if the unthinkable ever occurred. Thankfully it's pretty rare for upstanding people to have this happen to them. **double checking my doorbell tonight...**

  14. Here is as close as you can get! after the first 12 pictures the rest is a workup of the veneering process and the rest of refinish work. Veneering is much easier than you'd think! That is, paperback veneering is. I have not tried veneering with real wood veneer. But the method I used was quite simple. http://s1185.photobucket.com/user/johnstms92/slideshow/Cornwall%20progress

  15. Good Earl....you're putting together a nice system. Let me know what to expect on the BB. Mark is hot rodding mine as well and yours was ahead of mine. I also have the Jolida 100 though mine has the mini mod. Did a little tube rolling with the Jolida and settled on Bugle Boys.

  16. USNRET has made several happy. The little Jolida FX10 I got from him is a hoot and a half. Awesome sound, and so pretty to look at. The PAW loves it. After serving six weeks while I taught a class in music at my parish, it's back home in the library. Dave

  20. Depends on design, height off floor, and the woofer's required loading. Interesting it talks about the lowest octave and shows a La Scala. They do need all the help they can get so it makes sense to have the closest to quarter or eighth space loading.

  23. I grill and smoke meat a lot, especially during spring/summer/fall. For smoking I use a GrillPro charcoal fueled smoker probably 3 times a month. I bought this a few years ago at Menards and it has held up well. I generally use mesquite or hickory w/ a little bit of apple chips sprinkled in. For convenience purposes I have a gas grill (on average I use this 4-5 nights a week). For Father's Day (my excuse) I just picked up a new Weber Genesis E-310 at Lowes. And when I grill I don't just do the meat, I throw everything on there, veggies and fruit (usually fresh cut pineapple). My wife isn't much of a cook, besides she's chasing a 2.5 and 1.5 year old around all day so I can't blame her for not wanting to cook. And I really enjoy grilling after a long hard day of work. And quite honestly I'd rather prepare my food the way I like it as opposed to eating out at a nice restaurant.

  24. Ok, kind of an experiment then. Of course we can't predict what kind of sound qualities others will like, so I would take this on from a different angle - what's the most "tube'ish sound" you could try, which would best show off the tube qualities? What experiment will give you the greatest insight into how tubes differ from transistor amps? Then, if you don't like that, there wouldn't be much sense going forward with it. You would have heard the example of "good tubes" clearly. To that end, I would begin with Single-Ended Pentode (SEP) amps that feature no feedback. I think they offer the best window into tubes that you can buy on a modest budget. The most common recommendation, and one I used to make all the time, is the old Dynaco Ultralinear amps, like the ST70, MKIII and SCA35. But, ultralinear amps aren't really that close to today's state of the art in tube amps. Yes, they are good, and yes you can get lots of watts per dollar, but watts per dollar isn't the best way to show the strength of tube amps. A classic Single-Ended Triode (SET) amp would probably cost more than some of the new SEPs, and so for that reason they would be my second recommendation if you can find one in your budget. A typical SEP with no feedback and really good transformer and caps inside, will demonstrate the beauty of tubes very well. The fine grain, the exquisite detail, the openness and see through clarity is common to these amps. You compare this to your SS amp, and you will say, "Oh, now I get what this tube thing is all about." It will be very obvious. The Dynaco and all the hundreds of "ultralinear clones" fall behind the SET, SEP, in the finer points of tube sound, but they do offer more power. And to be clear, "more power" was the exact driving force behind the design of the ultralinear amps. On acoustic suspension speakers, the ultralinear has a clear advantage over SET/SEP. The cool thing about horns is that it opened the door to these better sounding, but less powerful designs, like SET/SEP. Thanks for the recommendations however it's full steam ahead with the ST70, yes, there is a winner of the two.I decided to get Bob L's advice and much to my surprise, he said I should go with the lower priced ST70. Sadly, they do not keep wired boxes in stock, it will take up to 3 weeks from the payment date. I am SO excited, my very first tube amp! Perhaps down the road I'll give SET amps a shot who knows. I'll post pictures and my thoughts later on. Thanks again to everyone! RIGGED Hi Rigged, Have you checked with Bob that you could get ST120 with the Pentode (60 wpc)/Triode (30wpc) switch so you'll have option to your set up? I got my ST120 from Bob last year and very happy with it till now. Mostly in the Triode mode (& using my Denon AVR), I listen to accoustic jazz/vocal & classical on my RF62 & don't notice any distortion (maybe because of some rolled-off?). For the pop/rock, i switch it to Pentode mode which give me more "open" sound & found no distortion so far. Best regards, Jimmy

  25. Extra thick bottom and the vertical metal strip on the center of the speaker. The best way would be to see the triangle cutout on the top rear of the speaker. Sorry Colterphoto1 - You've been owned! Don't mess with Opus! Not owned by opus, educated by Colter.

  29. Amy, mad men in the show are advertising charlatans, the mad comes from Madison avenue. Just admit it, anyone with a brain and cursory knowledge of Mr. Klipsch knows the term is inappropriate at best. Although I will concede that perhaps your target audience has neither a brain nor cursory knowledge of Mr. Klipsch.

  31. I have the magnum with the 3" chamber . Easier to maneuver around in close quarters than a shotgun and the 3" 000 buckshot will do considerable damage . Iv wanted one of those for prospecting ever since they came out, there aint no better snake gun. But of course I live in Kalifornia, few things are legal here anymore. Hey, this is AmeriKa. Land of the free, right? Depends which part of america you live in now days, Md passed an outrageous gun law this past october....................I had mine before it passed thankfully

  32. Great find. They are beautiful. With those Parasounds, you will never want for more volume. Bill Thank you - I feel fortunate to have found a pair "somewhat" local in such nice condition. I had purchased a mint pair of Forte II speakers last year - sold them to the son in law of respected Forum member shortly after I purchased them. These are very, very close to same mint condition. I organized my system this morning - have the Chorus about 8" to 11" off rear wall. Will listen for awhile and see what I hear. Hoping they sound nice close to rear wall, as this was primary reason to change out speakers in this system. I have a pair of Magnepans on the perpendicular wall - sitting out 60" from rear wall. I needed to free up some floor space. Hi cjmustang69, Since you had Forte II before & now you have this Chorus I, which one do you think is better in sound/sonic wise especially for accoustic music/jazz? I'm in the middle of deciding which one to buy... Thanks & cheers, Jimmy Jimmy, Difficult for me to make a true comparison of the Forte II to Chorus I speakers as my upstream equipment is totally different for the Chorus speakers versus the Forte speakers I owned. The Parasound amps/preamp I'm using with Chorus speakers is at least 2 steps above any front end I ran with the Forte speakers. I will say the Chorus seem to be able to let the quality of the upstream equipment show itself - to me showing the capability of the speakers. I honestly don't believe you can go wrong with either model. I would say a key consideration for choosing would be the room you plan to use them in and placement options/restrictions you have. While level of bass is often debated for Chorus I - I find bass to be quite good as long as you can place close to rear wall. Obviously, the Forte II needs to be off rear wall to sound correct. Good luck with your decision.

  36. Hi Bill, The first thing I did after unboxing was measure but I am about half an inch short of being able to put my TV on the rc-62 but thanks for the idea. I am in Port St Lucie, about 100 Miles South of the mouse. Could the TV be mounted to the back of the cabinet, thereby removing the TV stand? Or did you measure the speaker height and the height of the TV without the stand?

  37. Very smart, way to work the system but be careful she will probably figure it out sooner or later. If you notice she starts dancing around for you on occasion in new shoes and clothes to your surprise she has figured out your system, if she does it in just shoes the next thing will probably not be cheap. Haha! Sounds like you've been there already.....

  38. I use a 40.00 weber knock off, we grill every couple few days I figured out a way to get the boys to eat carrots using the grill place aluminum down put in a few carrots, add butter, then sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar, grill for about 1 hour and enjoy tonight on the grill I will be cooking boneless skinless chicken breast, pork chops, and the old standby hotdogs, with the carrots and baked potatoes I believe this will also call for a loaf of fresh baked bread Your all invited

  39. I am smoking 3 rack of rib right now on my 22" weber kettle. They will smoke for 6 hour. Using the snake method I can smoke for maybe 8 or 9 hours at 250 degrees and not have to lift the lid once to add extra charcoal or wood. I will have this grill at least 8 years maybe longer, minimal rust. All for a $150 bucks. I find that hard to beat.

  42. I have a VTA ST-120 built by Bob Latino. That amp with a Cary SLP 03 makes Polk Audio LSiM 703's sound good but I'm thinking that setup would be better for Heresy's.

Minermark good god man do you ever take a break and relax, you are retired man they didn't tell you Just kidding the road trips do sound like fun, maby set your sprinklers to come on at like 3:30 am and try to sneak by. Or even better grab some soap and shower in the middle of the yard (the neighbors will live this and you might make the news) It's all about recycling these days although in California there are probably restrictions on soap being released into the wild ?
