  1. Just rolled in, back for reno, delivered my Klipsch Sub to another Klipsch fan, told him about the forum and we may see him checking in from reno sometime soon. Great trip for a good change, we left Nevada with twice the money we went with, wife won it all, good thing.

  3. Op I know you said your budget was 1000$, I also know you said your sub is going behind a tv so space is important, and i also know that it's going in a corner. You have a very large room and you came here for some great advice. So here it is. If you have to wait a month, do so, you will not be sorry. Get the PC-12 plus. The plus models will be a huge step ahead of your klipsch sub and should be substantially better than the sb2000 or the pb2000. It also has a much better eq for the amp. Much more customizable for your room with which being square may come in handy. There is no question about it, this would be the direction I would go in if I was in your situation.

  4. Does anyone have experience mounting Klipschorns off the floor? We have naughty cats so I am afraid if I place my new Klipschorns on the floor they get sprayed by the cats. I was thinking I could build 18" risers to get them out of harms way but not sure what this will do to the sound. I will be grateful for any advice.

  8. Really sorry to hear this, but your right you know you will be fine, you have surely been through much worse. There is a reason for everything, even when it makes no sense to us at the time. It will be OK.

  10. Bummer dude, this seems to be the theme for the last couple of months. I have 2 sets of friends split, and 2 sets of friends get divorces. I wish I had the right words to help you all out, but I haven't been there and hope it never happens. All I could say is keep your head up and look for the joy in everything else lift presents.

  11. I try to view this life as a journey to be enjoyed, not a destination. When I do that I can take in the gifts today brings. I think that's the deal - stay in today and in the moment.

  12. Glad that works for you. Isn't is funny how so many people will take so much time to maintain their car or motorcyle, buy only the best oil, parts and fuel, and then put garbage in their body, the one thing that you will have your whole life? To each their own, but I am mid 40's and feel pretty good.

  13. I think the Plus has the edge but I definitely wouldn't say that is is substantially better than the PB2000. The PB2000 seems to be the best "bang for buck" sub that SVS offers. This was part of my reason for wanting to try it. The 45 day trial period allows you to try out a couple of sub with no penalties. Call SVS, they can point you in the right direction. With that said, I was looking for a smaller footprint so I went with the PC-12 Plus with the plan to go with duals if one isn't enough for my room.

Annnnnnd, for only 50 more you get a way better sub. also all their outlet specials are treated as new tin full 5 year unconditional warranty. just as you wanted.

  15. Scrappy has nailed it right in the bullseye. I did not even think about the PC-12 Plus. It would be the ideal subwoofer to fit behind a TV in a corner. The xtra $$$ would be worth it for all reasons mentioned. Bill

  17. Refus, Welcome to the forum. Great choice, love them, love them, love them. No objections at all in relation to timbre matching or speaker quality. One concern(at least to me) though is with towers for surrounds for home theater. In my opinion they will not be at a proper height in reference to your ear level. Most suggestions are for surrounds to be 2 to three feet above ear level while in seating position. The RF-3's tweeters will be at about 35 inches above floor which would put them about 4 inches below my ears. Not ideal for HT. Now for multichannel music, excellent. If your plan is to place the RF-3's on an 8 inch or 12 inch platform, then you would be good to go for home theater. Of course this is only my assessment so wait for others to chime in. Bill

  18. IMO, good horns are more accurate than good cones. The problem is that they tend to be less forgiving of poor &/or harsh recordings than cones. Cones tend to sound more veiled, and the instruments sound less "there" when using cones. I play good recordings, and love horns. When I happen to get a bad recording, I play with the EQ to see if I can make it less offensive, and if not, put it on the shelf and ignore it. A few times, but only a few, I've found that a recording that was unplayable would be O.K. after upgrading players, preamps of amps.

  19. Perhaps I am being cynical. You can buy a pair of used K-Horns for 1.5 to 2 thousand and you will have a great sounding pair of speakers. The price on eBay is 6.5 thousand. You will have speakers with great cosmetics and a huge price tag. Is it really worth it?

  20. Today we got the garage door wall almost done... We need 2 more sheets of drywall to complete the walls. We decided since we had extra hat channel and clips that we would go the extra mile and use them on that wall... It was either that or 4 layers of OSB, GG, and drywall. So we did the clips, OSB, GG, and dw. We also got the front height speakers mounted and aimed. Saturday we hope to get the wall finished, ceiling finished (only 4' x 19' behind the header), carpet the stage, 1/4 pie bass bins built for the LCR, and maybe mount the screen to the frame. Sunday we hope to have at least one of the DDs completed and installed, all the equipment in the room, projector hung, and recliners in place, with the room ready for hooking up everything..

  23. Sometimes it can be related to the "A" or "C" scale use with a directional microphone at higher frequencies. Try using some band-passed pink noise files vs. frequency using both meters. EDIT: It also can be related to the exact "fast" or "slow" filter characteristics in each, as you mentioned. Recommend using band-passed pink noise test files to further the understanding of what's happening.

  24. "Accurate" means different things to different people unfortunately. If your definition is "sounds most like the real thing", then I believe that the answer to your question will inevitably drift toward "horn-loaded", instead of "cone" (direct radiators). The reason for this is the relative absence of modulation distortion with the horn-loaded system. This means that you can play your music back even at concert levels without it sounding loud or compressed, unlike direct-radiator loudspeakers. Your comment about horn-loaded subwoofer that you are building is actually the most difficult part of going horn-loaded, based on size and complexity. Horn-loaded subs exhibit much lower modulation distortion and compression distortion than direct radiating subs, and you can hear this difference clearly. Mr. Klipsch (PWK) used to say: "Anything that moves--distorts." The use of horn-loaded drivers dramatically reduces the amount of motion that the driver is required to move in order to reproduce sound at the same sound power level (SPL) as that driver being used as a direct radiator. Horns require much less driving amplifier power due to this dramatic increase in driver acoustic efficiency, so you will be able to use much smaller amplifiers to accomplish very high SPL, while avoiding high modulation distortion levels that you have with direct radiators. Chris Chris I always love your responses. They are specific without adding too much technical complexity to lose the non-engineers in the group. Thanks.

  27. What speaker are you talking about in particular. A great sound can be done with horns or cones. Depends on the setup.

  28. Glad to see that, it's around NJ right now, it was just was a little reminder it's summertime. Everyone have a good 4'th, and Thanks to all Military, past and present, wouldn't want to think where we would be without them. No cooking for me today going our nieces house for a change, first time we haven't been home on a holiday that I can remember.

  30. 4th is great for some people, but not for one of my German Shepherds. While he was a champion, trained dog when we lived in Germany, he has become deathly afraid of thunder (and fire works). He was desperately trying to get under our feet or on our laps last night when the fireworks were booming. A 90 pound shepherd is not a lap dog!

  32. French press. I never thought much of the lowly contraption until we lost power and had to give this cave man technology a try. I haven't used the Keurig since. French press makes the smoothest and strongest coffee that I've ever enjoyed. Nothing fancy or European, it's a $20 Mr Coffee brand. Amazing. Give it a try people! As for cillis: The Thai prik kee noo pepper is fantastic. Not a super hot, very flavorful indeed.

  33. Nice, Eldon... I really didn't go back through to see if I'd weighed in, but here is my bottom line: Listening at less than whatever is a realistic level for the original source is by definition not "high fidelity." Stuff created in a mixing room, of course. doesn't apply. Only acoustic sources. Dave

  34. Yes! I commission all of you! I have a man-den in my house which is open completely on one side and is a small 10x10 basically. Right now its got a huge 3-piece computer desk/cabinet and a couch and the goal is to move the computer desk-a-ma-jig into another room or sell it. I wanted this to be my hifi area separate from the living room with the home theater. I was going to use my rf-5's or really whatever my flavor of speaker is for the week and have a tv along with maybe my computer. Style is modern/wood/glass/dark glass. the VTI gear is nice but expensive for right now so this will be an evolution. All of that to get to this...I am looking for tasteful artwork posters that is audio related. I am going to get a couple klipsch posters and was thinking about getting some Kato posters www.thisiskato.com. Before you click, it is sexy steampunk modeling. I think that she is a great and tasteful model and want to somehow integrate her in among all the Hersey and Tangents hoping that designing this could be a Forte of mine and upon completion the Quartets shall play along with a Chorus whilst maintaining my Reference lair! Roar! The Steve Steigman "Blown Away" poster is on the list. Oh yeah, all of the posters (not sure of sizes yet) will be framed. This aint no teenagers lounge.
