  1. Mornin Gang Agenda 1. Mow lawn, let lawn die. 2. Shop for active crossover(s) 3. Plan trip to Oregon coast, "No Speaker Buying" suprise trip to her favorite place for three or four days with zero, nada, nothing planned. This will be the first time iv EVER been in that state and not bought Klipsch, we are talking four past trips there. We will be taking her Toyota, cheap and the fact Khorns/Belles will not fit in it. Crabbing and Beer sound pretty dam good.

  2. Worked this time...to figure. After 5 attempts before posting, I stopped. Maybe it was the LTE signal. I switched on to the schools wireless (I'm a network admin) and using the 150mb pipe and it worked. Gotta love it.

  3. Carefull, they could reduce your speakers to Bose quality. I've seen Monster wire INside many Klipsch speakers. I think that they used it back in the "don't ask don't tell" days.

  7. Well after talking to one of my good Forum friends I have decided to let go of my 4 THX ultra 2 subwoofers and move into the below 20hz family. I have thoroughly enjoyed my subwoofers for the past 2 years but I have listed them for sale in the Garage sale thread. I have decided to go with (2) JTR Captivator S2’s. These will now go directly in place of where the (4) KW-120s are and will bring (4) 18” Drivers to the home cinema. I have been toying with the idea the past few months and finally decided to make the move. I plan to order both units within the next 2-3 weeks. The JTR subs have balanced XLR cable inputs so I’m thinking of going with some 20’ runs out of my Anthem D2v and probably going to purchase them from Monoprice. I compared these with several other subs in the same range and keep coming back to these. The Seaton subversives were a close second but I feel that even the aesthetics on these closely match what the THX ultra 2 speakers look like. They will eventually end up behind an AT screen in the next house but for now they should look similar to the KW-120s and still fit under my fixed screen with 1” clearance.

  8. I am about to start acoustically treating my listening room. I had previously added treatments, but want to do things with a little more care and with some measurements to document the effects. First up, will be a set of 5 diffuser panels for the rear wall. I have built the panels based on this design: http://arqen.com/sound-diffusers/ Finished painting the panels today so will include a picture of one while it cures. I will be building several absorbers for the first reflection points and adding super chunk absorbers to all four room corners. Figured I'd keep track of the build on this thread in case anyone is interested. I selected UltraTouch Denim insulation for the absorbers so I don't have to deal with fiberglass. I had worked with fiberglass before and it is a major pain to work with. It also made the absorber builds more difficult since I needed to ensure I din't have fiberglass fiber floating around in the room. I picked the R30 insulation based on the available acoustic data and its thickness. This product looks perfect for the project. The R30 is supposed to be 8.5" thick, but I was aware based on other forums that even after it expands after unpacking, it does not quite meet the advertised thickness. Out of the bag, it is currently around 6". My current plan is to use FR-701 material to cover the absorbers. The FR-701 comes from Guilfords of Maine.

  9. After deliberating on which model I wanted to go with, and what was in a reasonable driving range from me, I picked up a beautiful pair of Oak CF-3's this past weekend. Got home around 9pm after a 6 hour round trip drive and listened to them till about 1am and was loving what I heard. I kept thinking the left speaker was dominant to the right so Saturday morning I inspected a little closer and discovered the top woofer had no output. Crap. Fingers crossed for a disconnected woofer and that's what it was. Back to normal! I'm running them on my Carver M-1.0t MKII Opt 002 amp and they sound awesome. Next step is updating the caps and elevating them some to get the horn more to ear level which won't be too much of a lift. But if anyone comes across a reasonable priced pair of 3's or 4's, don't hesitate to get them. These are replacing my Polk SDA SRS 2's which will be sold off soon. After owning 4 sets of Heresy's and a pair of 78 Khorns, it's good to be back in horns again. Please overlook the wires on the media server side as it's temporary until I finish up the new entertainment center for everything. Kind of embarrassing. Edit...I guess it's not letting me upload pics from my iPhone.

  14. That's probably the best way. The nice thing about the peat pellets is that you can start them in the house when it's too cold outside to do it there. I just got used to doing it that way. I used peat pellets to start some seeds I had back in high school, then my mom caught on and threw them out. Bad Duder, bad Girl Friend in High School showed her parents some seeds. They swore up and down that she had Flax seeds and let her set up a light and grow them seeds just to prove to her that she was wrong. Seems like we broke up before they matured.

  16. Klipsch saved the day and then some!!! Last week I visited New York for the first time since moving to Florida in the beginning of May. Before I flew out on Thursday I was informed that an event I was attending was in need of sound because something fell through. So rather than having my friends renting and wasting money on professional sound I volunteered my time and Heresy II speakers to power the event along with a KRK 10 subwoofer and an Onkyo A/V Receiver. The event went off without a hitch and I can say the sound performed better than most rigs I have used in Live Venues around New York City. Over 200 people attended the 10th Annual Drum & Bass BBQ and I saw nothing but smiles. I can honestly say I did not even have to come close to turning up the sound to the max to get desired volumes. I was told the sound could be heard from outside Cedar Creek Park in Wantagh too. So once again Klipsch sound did not disappoint. Thanks for making kick *** speakers that can hold up to anything!!!! 20. I picked up an RW-12d from Newegg on a close out about 18 months ago and we've been very satisfied. It was a steal, so maybe look for any current close outs. I was aware of Klipsch' reputation for less than stellar quality in subs, but the price made the risk worthwhile. The bad part of this is we are now spoiled and if something goes wrong, I'll feel compelled to buy another sub and will probably have to pay through the nose for it. I would not spend substantial $ for a Klipsch sub based on the problems I've read about on this forum and elsewhere. Hope that changes in the future.

  22. I will let the secret out, Thebes is driving all the way to Indy and is going to do a special strippergram just for Amy ! Sorry Amy No pic's please. My sources say it's a double... Coytee will be joining in the strippergram doing his best Marie Osmond impersonation. Unbeknownst to Thebes, I've been working with the Twins to stop the strippergram nonsense but you know Marty, and well, anytime Coytee gets a chance to impersonate Marie ... and he never misses an opportunity to get a peek at Amy's earlobes. Just call her HotLobes. I work in the same building as the Indiana State Police headquarters. They have formed a special task force and are on the lookout to prevent this travesty before it becomes a case of the most heinous indecent exposure and affront to good musical taste. The Twins will probably bring Marty to his senses, or at least distract him enough, that he'll forget the purpose of this trip and he'll probably just take Amy to St Elmo's for lunch. Maybe the Twins as well but they may have to leave town early for reasons that can't be divulged here. Only cost me a few dozen donuts and donut gift cards.... .remind me nex ttime not to bribe, uh pay, the ISP in advance, they are spending way too much time at the donut shop. And definitely no film. The ISP undercover officers may take video to use as evidence, or to send in to the new cable video show, America's Worst Karaoke Videos coming soon on *TV. And just when we thought they couldn't lower their standards any lower.

  24. I'd be careful how you use these adapters. Ask me how i KNOW? I had the red and black speaker wire at the amp touch. A little heat shrink tubing would have saved it. I do prefer a soldered wire as it seems easier to place into the amp speaker out out, If I had a preference for one of the other adapters I would use heat shrink tubing to mark and PROTECT the speaker wires Solder 1/2" inch of 14 G on each 12 G wire to connect to receiver. Have done this and it works. Can't say what I want, total brain fart??? Pull a few strands off the #12 G wire so it will fit the spring loaded speaker wire connector. Then solder the end of the wire. If you use just the smallest dab of solder you can it makes a nice looking connector and works well. Better then any connector to fit adapt a larger wire to smaller clip wire connector. I'm sure there are better but I don't know of them

  25. Cornwalls are highly regarded for their bass response. I bought my first La Scala before I got a pair of Cornwalls. I found that the midrange horn of the La Scala are very hard to give up, which is why people build cornscalas. For stock bass capable stock Klipsch speakers, I would go for any of the following: KG 5.5, Forte, Forte II, Chorus II, KLF-20, KLF-30, and Cornwalls. These were listed in increasing price in the Chicago area. The La Scala doesn't have the same bass extension as the other speakers listed, but a musical sub is easy to add.

  31. Very sorry to hear about Johnny 5. Any family who needs help? that's because folks decide on hospice care far later than they should. Good for him. My late wife passed away from malignant melanoma in 2005. She was having some radiation therapy and one of the women who worked at the center told her to call a local hospice center NOW. We did when we got home and it was incredibly helpful. My wife was 54 when she passed away, far too young. Bruce Now happily remarried...

  45. Amy - I once read that every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it. I'm sure that most here would agree that you have 'autographed' your work with excellence. May you 'autograph' your next endeavor with excellence, I'm sure you will. I'll close with a quote from Anatole france, "All changes in life, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another."
