  2. I'm a bit slow in posting, I apologize. I received the most generous of gifts (in addition to the flowers), and it was unexpected and again overwhelming. Even more than the gifts, it's wonderful to be appreciated for the job I've done, and to have such great friends on here. Thanks to all who contributed, and especially to Thebes, Old Timer and Ratcobob for above and beyond. You are all amazing! It's a busy time for me, but I'm enjoying it so far. I'll be back with updates later!

  3. Our pleasure Amy. For all of those who participated in the Thanks Amy effort, please note that we got her flowers from Hawaii, a little something else and, thanks to the generosity of Ratcobob, some Indy 500 memorabilia. The Indy stuff is way cool, a jacket and press packet.

  5. So what's with this POINT system? I see that I have 0 points which is probably a good thing, but many of my friends it doesn't show how many points they have. Or do you only see your own? Can someone point me in the right area to find discussion of this?

  6. OK everyone, probably will not be here for about 10-11 days starting in the AM. Just so you don't think I died, well I still could but it's not the plan. Going off to the East Tennessee area for a little while just to make sure the mountains are still there, I think they are but you can't be to sure. We are going in Minermark's NEW style of travel, ZERO plans except for taking some pic's and avoiding bears.

  7. Going to be a hot humid one today. Afternoon concert on the way to the beach....if its not rained out. Haven't heard from ex lady friend since July the fourth. She still has my bicycle....so we will have to have that face to face eventually. First night for dinner with a bunch of guys that meet for dinner once weekly. Mostly car guys, with trivia questions. Some guys from all the way back to elementary school. A different outing but fun. Mark if you vacation out this way stop by and say hello to me and Jake! Cheers Gents

  15. I highly recommend NOT tuning lower than 40Hz. Keep the tuning 40-42Hz and let the extra size of the cabinet offer the advantage of less "drop-off" of the LF curve below 100Hz. There is a difference of what the woofer "can do" and if it sounds worth a crap or not.

  16. I think it is confusing and I do hope a few of the engineers weigh in as I've read in various forum threads that crossover designers (Klipsch included?) often choose the inductors with a specific DCR and capacitors with a certain ESR to control the Q of the filter as a whole without any external resistors. Often times, I see reprimanding-type remarks when people just blindly substitute an inductor even when the value (i.e. mHy) is the same. However, it would seem that foil inductors would reduce potential 'skin effect' in the same way as the litz wire inductors. For my diy stuff I tend to use the litz wire for any mid and high frequency areas and have not tried foil (yet). I also wonder if the curves that ALK has presented would change with different size inductors?

  19. i think this was a huge mistake on their part. those speakers are the exact same looking as the current K series icon line. except now they have copper cones. i think this is going to take away from the "reference" series image, and also with new models being r-28f, r-25c etc is just going to further confuse future customers.

  20. Well after talking to one of my good Forum friends I have decided to let go of my 4 THX ultra 2 subwoofers and move into the below 20hz family. I have thoroughly enjoyed my subwoofers for the past 2 years but I have listed them for sale in the Garage sale thread. I have decided to go with (2) JTR Captivator S2’s. These will now go directly in place of where the (4) KW-120s are and will bring (4) 18” Drivers to the home cinema. I have been toying with the idea the past few months and finally decided to make the move. I plan to order both units within the next 2-3 weeks. The JTR subs have balanced XLR cable inputs so I’m thinking of going with some 20’ runs out of my Anthem D2v and probably going to purchase them from Monoprice. I compared these with several other subs in the same range and keep coming back to these. The Seaton subversives were a close second but I feel that even the aesthetics on these closely match what the THX ultra 2 speakers look like. They will eventually end up behind an AT screen in the next house but for now they should look similar to the KW-120s and still fit under my fixed screen with 1” clearance.

  23. I deleted several photos that were CLEARLY against the rules. The rules are there, people should think before they post things like that. This is a corporate forum, and while we like to keep things loose around here, we have to protect our image. I'm not trying to come off as hostile, yet seeing that the first thing this morning was not something I appreciated.

  29. I would change every last thing Im sure. Cost always gets in the way. Call me crazy but I bet we would enjoy what we have now over what we upgraded to in the long term. My room reminds me every day that hard work pays off. And how lucky I am. Sorry for getting all deep on you guys

  32. Yes this is scaring me as I just booked my second flight for this year, wish me luck. I am heading to Tarheels neck of the woods towards the end of August. I will have to look him up for a drink. The weather has been awesome, I was able to get out in the garden yesterday and finish removing all the weeds and tie up the tomato plants. Next I will try some different cages for those, as they seem to get out of hand too quickly. I did manage to find some more cucumbers and ripen roman tomatoes. I was doing some research on a drip irrigation system to better water those. I might have to go to lowes this evening and pick some stuff up. We will see what I come up with.

  33. You can use a small trim router or even a razor knife, depending on how thin the veneer is.I don't know if you have Dremel tools in Iran, but you can get a flush cut router bit for them. Dremels are small handheld power tools for small work. A lot of people use them for wood carving, but there are lots of attachments available for them. Bruce

  35. Are they in good cosmetic condition? B's are a beautiful design IMO, but has the veneer been well maintained, or are strips missing around the "collar" or the kick plate? Posted pics for us to look at might be helpful. The other poster's questions are critical -- do all the drivers work and do they sound the same and blend well? Check all SIX drivers by placing your ear at the mouths of each tweeter horn (you can feel the openings through the grill cloth), mid-horn (ditto), and directly at the sides of the lower, or bass, horn. Does everything sound identical between the left and the right for each driver pair? Then, after that, you can get into thinking about refreshing or replacing the X-overs. I think many would suggest just listening to them for a while, get the wires and things settled down sonically (there is usually a brief period of breaking them in again). Then see if you are satisfied or not. If you have questions about driver matching or quality, I suggest you call Klipsch tech support for advice. Some individuals on the forum make their own design of replacement x-overs, like [EDIT:] Bob Crites and Dean G. A more costly approach is to replace the X-over, tweeter and mid driver with AK-4 replacement kits from Klipsch. That's what I have, and I am very satisfied with the blend and linearity. The kits do not include new woofers. My $0.02.

  38. As most of us would say.... BUMMER... I bought one of those "roll around" AC units a couple of months ago from Costco. It has been great. I turn the house AC's off at night and cool the bedroom down to "desert only." The result is great and the cost is low.... I bought a portable for my garage /shop a few weeks ago for dehumidifying purposes as all my tools were rusting away. It maintains about 82 degrees with OAT of 95 running 24/7, we'll see what effect it has.

  40. Over time you find it easy to "not" root for a&m.Not unless they quit using my Favorite Colour MAROON, for some f*^^~]} colour, like Burnt Orange, or worse, BLACK.State came out in Black against AlaBama one year; for once & instantly, I wanted AlaBama to win; not that it made any differ. I hate schools wearing Black & non official school Colours. Don't worry, I kinda like the Texas Steers, too! We shall see how Charlie does with the troops. His first real test will be in October when UT plays ou. The Longhorn nation will be watching that match-up very closely....

  44. Speaking for myself.......only when it is done well which is sadly very uncommon due to controllable and uncontrollable factors by the producers/engineers but not when the original source is so screwed up by bad mastering practices, crapy monitoring equipment/loudspeakers..etc......, monitoring rooms/conditions that has very little acoustical relationship to the average listening room which leads many times to improper tonal balancing choices by producers/engineers. Basic Bass and Treble controls are not adequate but tone balance controls such as implemented by for example some McIntosh pre-amps and Cello Palette can make very dramatic improvements in realistic reproduction of some recordings in the home. You have to recognize their are very little standards in the recording or playback of the original source that will guarantee that you are even hearing what the producer/engineer/artist heard or wants you to experience. Again speaking for myself in the end my goal with my system is to experience as realistic a reproduction in my room as I can possibly achieve which means I choose to take some control of the tonal balance issues of a recording if necessary. miketn

  45. Local fire departments annual July 4 th fireworks show, it's just a big field you park wherever you want. They have fundraisers during the year and on the way out have fireman on all the roads collecting donations for next years show. They put on about a 30-45 minute show, music playing and the usual junk food vendors off to the side, it's like a big party which starts during the day, we go about an hour before dark. 18mm, 10 sec, f 6.3 iso100
