  2. After removing the wooferpanels of my K-C-FB Klipschorns I found the K33-V woofers; I'm surprised how these 41 year old woofers still look like new looking at the cones and surrounds. Looks like they can easily play for another generation, just like the rest of the drivers of the set.

  3. Good to see Ben here. Haven't had the music on all week except in the car. Saturday is usually yard work day but the grass is still damp and humidity going up so I'll wait for Tuesday (87) or Wednesday (83). Jake was itching from the heart worm meds last night so I gave him a Benadryl and he slept all night. He knows when I am in the kitchen and hears cellophane to investigate....may be a treat. No plans so I'll go on a quest for the perfect cheeseburger I guess. Cheers Gents

  6. If you don't enjoy something any more, it's hard to continue. I was a little apprehensive after the 3'rd one but the last wreck put me over the edge. 2 times I've been totaled out while sitting still or barely moving. 2 times I've totaled out by hitting someone who's pulled out in front of me and I had no where to go. I was hit broadside once by a lady in the rain who had no lights on. I didn't count that one as it wasn't a total but had about $15,000 worth of damage. When you tense up at intersections in an automobile, you have no business on a bike anymore. I know my limitations.

  7. Welcome Boxerjake, sounds like you come to the right place. Well I'm an old guy, don't go 120db anymore and Metallica came along after tons of other favorites from years before them for me, but it's all good, we all have our favorites. Not because I am old but because I am old enough to now experience hearing damage, don't go 120 db for lengths of time or you will pay down the road, ask MANY here. Not trying to tell you what to do but from experience, no one wants to lose the pleasure of music when there older. I do understand cranking it up and a cold beer after work for sure., don't take a chance on messing that up, just a touch lower goes a long way.

  9. I have recently discovered a problem with one of the LaScalas in my 6.2 setup. I was running the Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark on my Oppo BDP-93m and there is a scene in TrueHD that has a note piano note that reoccurs often, and that note was causing a great deal of noise manifested as resonance. That resonance was causing the cap on the back of the squaker to vibrate and make a hell of a noise. I used some black silicone gasket maker around the fringe of that squaker cap, and it helped. That actually made me realize the matching AL-3 LaScala was also making the distorted noise, just to a lesser degree. I next put on a Beatles LP, and went around in all channel stereo, and found the mid-high tones are much better on the other 4 LaScalas which have newly re-capped AA networks, two of them with new tweets as well. My questions are this, do you think it is the squaker, or the AL-3 network that is to blame? Also, is there a test I can perform to check? When I first set this system up, the AL-3 speakers sounded a good bit cleared than the other 4 with the AA's with the fresh sonicaps.

  12. Before you do that; be aware that choosing a different horn for mids will completely change te overall sound. I noticed that with other midhorns it all sounded more natural and less agressive to the ear, BUT not as dynamic as with the K-400's . Before you buy a replacement-horn like a tractrix design , I think you should know this. Nico I know. I've had Klipsch (Khorn, LS, CW, CS, Heresy) for more than a decade and I've tweaked with these speakers a lot. I discovered my LS back in the 1996 in my grandpas basement after he passed away. I'm not unfamiliar with them. K-400 is a Exponential with a horrible honkiness which will kill me in a second! once one hear a Tractrix horn with a 2" exit CD, he won't go back to the k-400/K55 ever.

  19. I like your travel plans. No worry, no rush, just go wherever ya want. No schedule to keep. Lemme know if you manage to get up to Michael's. It's not too far outta my way on the way home from work in downtown Indy to Kokotucky. (Ugh! gotta get a gig closer to home or one that lets me work from home. Stopped by last night to take him a Crown Royal bag and left with a NIB NOS KSB 1.1. He said something about taking home a pair every time I visit... so next up KSB 2.1? It'll take awhile to get up to Quartet, Forte, Chorus, or bigger. And my wallet / checkbook is a bit thin. Hooked up the KSB 1.1's in Roadie's and very good sound for a smallish 5.25" bass/mid and tweet. I got a pair as well, haven't had the chance to hook them up yet. Very stout little huggers aren't they. Yes they are. Pulled them out of the box and plastic bag, Twisted the binding post nut out all the way to take out little plastic plugs and hooked up to Michael's (Colterphoto1). First play. Not even broken in. Won't be mistaken for his MCM stacks + but sounded really good for small compact speakers.

  20. So that's what that damn noise is I keep hearing from my midrange squakers... been driving me crazy!!! I also had to remove the plastic rings around my klf woofers because the frames rusted allowing the black paint to come loose that the glue was stuck to holding the rings on... I say we hunt down the idiot who decided glue was the wave of klipsch's future and glue him to a tree!!!

  21. Cagers are definitely what to watch for. If you know defensive driving, and you look at every car or truck as a potential threat, you will be OK. It is a matter of concentrating when cars and trucks are around. The other thing to watch for is loose gravel, leaves, and wet spots in turns. Always remember to look where you want to drive. Do not look down, look far out in front of you. If you have ever ridden dirt bikes, it's like when you are riding in bad ruts. Choose your path, and don't look down. You will feel the bike doing exactly what you want and going exactly where you looked.

I know where you are coming from, and I wish you the best. I think a lot of folks here can relate... Lost my first wife to MM... Love everyone like there is no tomorrow... Bruce

  24. That's an interesting-looking stack. Too bad there isn't enough height under a typical 8-foot ceiling to stack double Klipschorns, tweeter-to-tweeter. I wonder if anyone's looked at building a shorter bass section to accommodate the stacking of dual units in a residential setting. ((Oh, that's charming, I get a little warning symbol if I edit a post.))

  27. Super Q's are fantastic in a woofer filter, in fact hard to beat below 1Khz. It doesn't have to be expensive to sound really good. I am not sure which would perform better from a technical stand point, the Super Q or the Jantzen P-Core. That is why I am sending them to ALK for testing. Dave

  28. I sold my Road King Classic last year. I liked the bike, but unfortunately the riding position hurt my back on long trips. I ended up buying a bike with a more upright riding position. The trade off is that the seat on the new bike is smaller, and basically tortures my posterior. I have ordered a new Corbin seat, which is supposed to be way more comfortable. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your bike.

  29. First Cup-0-Joe, done, brain scattered. But on the brighter side of life in the world of finely repoduced sound, yesterday marked the 50% complete stage, on the speaker build. Adding what i thought was missing from the sound, Two K400 Horns form LaScalas, the Eaw stacks seem to sound a tad better. Finished the install of the horns into the stacks and had maybe an hour run time by the time the wife came home. She walks into the Cave w/twany port in hand, and all she says is what the hell did you do to those speakers? they sound like the old Scala stacks we had ! but better. Being a fresh install, not having time to fiddle with adjustments/knobs, she promply dials in the Bass/Treble on the Pre, ask me to play some Fav tunes of hers, then kind of gives me the "Look", sounds good, can we turn it up?.......Ah, my sound expert rarely ask me to do that, she said they are dialed in, and pleased we have the Horn sound back. Reward her with trip to the pub. (and gave the neighbors a break).

  30. Yes. Using my "gear head" I thought of it like this. The mains pull away from the subs when you put your foot down. When you are at low speeds, an M1A2 Abrams tank can drive along with a Pagani Huayra. So long as you listen at low levels, everything is fine.... If you listen at high levels, you need to have the sub power to keep up. Maybe a pair of Bugatti Veyron SS's.

  34. Well it has been 9 days since I paid for the receiver, and I have yet to get the item. Called to fedex yesterday and according to them, the seller has yet to drop the package off... I filed a claim to get my refund today. If I get the funds back, it looks like there is a NIB sc-65 for a little less than what i won this auction for. Have to wait till the 29th without anything before I get the money back though.... Christ why do these people even exist...

  36. I always thought that the RF-7II was such a large jump price-wise from the RF-82II that it almost was its own tier. That's why I wonder what will happen to it and the RC-64II. However, if there's a third tier, that implies there will be a whole line of speakers above the current R-II line. So what will they be? More refined cabinetry (no more rectangular boxes)? Different tweeters and/or woofers? Three-ways? All of the above? ive talked about this before. I hope they are 3 way. Nicer finishes. And curved cabinets. I'd sure buy something similar sounding to my rf-63 in a walnut finish with curved cabinet.

  37. Based on hints they have dropped, I'm betting there is something new in between RF7ii and the Palladium. They keep telling us we will be very pleased so I have no reason to doubt it. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with

  38. No worries dtel .... I've spent 30 plus years painting cars and pounding around the inside of a bodyshop , so chestpounding music is the least of my worries . Mettalic is no where near my favorite , just has the tempo i get off on after a day at the grind . Those k's are in my theater room and mosty used for movies , the earbleeding is usually at a distance inmy back yard and garage as i work on custom car and bike builds . ( I chromed those tube amp chassis for Gregg that he always displays on his page with his speaker builds , the amps Jean Francois Lessard built for the exchange on the cherry k's years back ) I've got a house full of gear for every taste , scala's , belle's ,heresy , k's , cornwalls , solid state gear , tube stuff out the ying yang . I groove the Dean Martin on sunday mornings as much as rockin the countryside with volbeat at a buck and a half on the scale . Needless to say i live in the countryside .. Lascala's and belles serve well as PA gear outdoors , we rock parties of 100 plus on a regular basis during the summer months ( I live just outside Edmonton Alberta so summer is 3 months a year )

  39. Yes we want to see that also No arguement here .... I've got buddies with rooms full of 100 k focal's and stacks of Tenor's Fact is i'm a shear db guy ... i have little need to sip wine and converse with my fellow audio philes on which verse they can hear the trombone guy pass gas with there golden ears . 120 db of metalica after a hard days work and a cold beer is good enough for me I've been pounding out notes via the klipsch route since the late 70's ps : Does anyone know if Jean Francois Lessard ( Magna quest ) or kelly still lurk here ? I have Lessards very first 6SN7 SRPP Pantheon Audio pre-amp hooked into the first pair of Dynaco Mark III's that craig over at Nos Valves ever restored .

  45. Back in 2009 I gave a 'friend' furniture. And then I moved away and I was no longer her friend according to her. It's funny though. Because of the industry I'm in the CAD/CAM software I've been using for 26 years and consequently the people that work for that software company that I've known for years know her because she works for the same company there Ohio office. She's been there forever so she probably really didn't need free furniture. I didn't find that out until a few months ago. Not to brag but now I'm finally making decent money....so I guess I should chalk that up to a life experience.

  46. It is not the AL-3 network. I had this same thing happen to a pair of AL equipped cabs. It's the K-55M driver. It is certainly the black cap on the back of the driver that makes the most racket at war volume. It's not unheard of. Any disbonded area is going to leak and / or vibrate. While you have the driver removed, change the o-ring between the horn and the driver too. See:http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/129225/1318307.aspx also: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/83610/837975.aspx and: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/72281/710282.aspx#710282 and: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/129225/1318307.aspx
