  1. I have never listened to Frank much, nor do I have any recordings. But recent years when I hear a snippet of him here or there, I like it. A lot. Possibly, probably favorite "Fly me to the Moon". Love the smooooothness and Big Band horns. Really funny, cause as a kid I thought my Parents listening to the Laurence Welk show really giggled me. Can anybody recommend what I should buy if I want to get 2 or 3 currently available CD's to handle a basic Sinatra Jones? Thank you , Lars

  2. Also enjoy some Micheal Buble, Andre Bocelli, Josh Groban stuff. Interesting, cause I usually have a leaning toward female vocalists, Black "soul" ballads and mostly Black artist 60's groups. IMHO' the human voice, mostly Black, mostly female. is the Finest instrument. Lars

  8. The hospitality at the plant today was incredible and reminded me of when Paul did these personally so many decades ago. His spirit was there with us and you almost expected to see him come around the corner. I genuflected in front of the newest finished Klipschorns off the line and bowed to the lady who assembled them. Most of the 30 or so who went through the plant appeared to do so about 12 inches off the floor without their feet moving. The time in the listening room A/B/C switching "Hotel California" between Palladiums, RF-7s, and Klipshorns left all feeling these are all the best loudspeakers in the world...but the Klipschorn remains the king and father of them all. The employees were very appreciative. Lots of pix made and, I am sure, will be posted. Chad made a lot of "official" pix for the Klipsch FB and Tweet pages. Ribs are smoking and potato salad being made at the moment for tonight and the smell is awesome. Expecting the first system setup in an hour or so. The party is barely started... Oh...Ron and I saw a mated pair of Bald Eagles sitting in a tree near the club house this morning. I've seen a lot of great wildlife before, but this was an awesome first. Dave

  10. Klipsch, you have made many wonderful products over the years but my peeve has always been in the PC 2.1 department. My GMX set (thankfully discontinued) was....lackluster for a klipsch product both in sound and quality. The promedia series is better and i'd say worth the $150 you pay for it. My gripe has always been with the capabilities of the satellites while the subwoofer has always been adequate to very good and that the amp always seems to have problems. I think that you are really missing something with the WB-14's. I've tested the RB-10, RB-52, RB-5 and RB-5 for near field and the RB-10's were OK but the rest were just not near field material at all. I bought the WB-14's for my computer because i wanted something more than the promedia series could offer. Amp unreliability is rampant and once you get them cranking, the horn starts to show its limits which is really disappointing. I went and bought an HSU downfiring sub and an emotiva a-100 to power them. The amp is solid, the subwoofer is great and the speakers....more than i could ever ask for in a near field position. The clarity and openness of these speakers, and really the entire Icon W line beats any klipsch speaker i have ever owned and i think that really says something. They were always overppriced and only bought them on close out through newegg when i felt they were priced properly for what they are. Klipsch, you could do a higher end computer set. Base it off of the WB-14, do a less nice veneer, pack a quality plate amp in the sub, beef up the sub slightly, include some fitted & angled isolation pads and you'd have a set worth $300-$350 that people would pay for. Just my $0.02 for your product development. Always a fan, Ian Note: Monitor is 32" monitor

  11. As some of you probably read earlier this week, some change in plans have resulted in me staying home for the rest of my schooling. As such, I no longer need to worry about a separate sub, or integrated for a dorm room. I have an Emotiva LMC-1 that is currently powering bookshelf speakers, but it's not giving them the power I'd like - and why would it? It's not designed to keep up with the Fusion. So now that's got me searching for a good 2 channel power amp that will be permanently integrated into the setup. I'm probably going to search used, but am trying to figure out if the XPA-200 or the UPA-200 would be the best bet. However, my main question is...when I do get this power amp, would it be better to put my towers on the power amp, and the bookshelf speakers on the Fusion? If I were to get one of the XPA or UPA's, those tend to run in the range of 100-200 wpc. So would I be getting more bang for my buck doing things that way? Is there a better way to do this to ensure that they incorporate well in the surround profiles, and work just as seamlessly in 2-channel format? I've never really dealt with a straight up amp before, so this would be new waters for me.

  12. I finally upgraded my 5.1 setup to all Reference speakers!!! I have had a thrown together setup for a long time. It consisted of KG-3.2's with Crites updates for the Main L/R, an SC-1 center, RW-8 sub, and KSB-1.1's for the surrounds. For the new setup, I kept the RW-8 sub with plans to upgrade that later. New RF-62 II's, RC-62 II center, and RB-51 II's for surrounds. The RB-51 II's have been in my bedroom for a 2 Channel setup for listening to music. The KG3.2's will be moved to the bedroom for me, and the other speakers I'm giving to my 12 year old daughter to put in her room. I'm Really excited to hear how the new system sounds. I'm living in an apartment right now (divorce). So, really cranking it is not going to happen soon. But, I'm looking for a new home. So, hopefully, I'll be able to put them through their paces soon enough. Really enjoy reading everything here. I've learned a great deal just form reading all of your informative and entertaing post. I'll post some pics as soon as I get the new speakers home!

  19. This is actually a problem for stereo, See Toole's book pgs, 151-154, for the discussion of why there is a "fundamental flaw in stereo". I really don't recommend placing the horn centerlines on-axis at your ears. It's best to be slightly in front or behind the crossing spot and/or off-center slightly asymmetric in a stereo/room layout. The K-402 horns are very good "acoustic antennas" that are extremely sensitive to angular alignment. They are very revealing of imaging, and I can attest to the fact that you'll hear a "hole" at 1.85 kHz if you put them on centerline with your head while playing stereo: it isn't subtle. In addition, listening on-axis to any round mouth horn is also a problem in that you'll get a big cancellation at some distance from the mouth. This effect is much less pronounced for rectangular horns of unequal height/width dimensions. Great info.

Great group last night inside with tubes and Corns and outside with Kevin's 6005 stacks. A few of us are stirring at the Super8, listening to Andy download through his Heresys. SSH

  25. The EV EVM12L, and B&C 12PE32 and 12PE31 (discontinued) are the best-performing (on paper) 12" horn drivers that I am aware of. There may be others that I am not aware of.

  26. Sorry, yes I was running RF3 II's with RS-3 II's and an RC-3 II center. I sold the RF-3's a little while ago but still have the other three. Whatever it is, the clarity is fantastic with the series speakers but they seem harsh over prolonged listening periods.

  27. Cradeldorf, 604's are classic speakers that are brutal on recordings... synergy in all facets are a premium using 604's, I can only use a very small percentage of recordings with mine, hurting your ears may be an integration issue or type of 604 and box.I think you should explain the type of sound you are looking for and maybe just make a box and go active with some proven drivers. I have heard from reliable sources that 604's in the right place, in some spaces designed around them can be magical. The rooms cost about 80k for the lowly 604... look up audio "bucket list" the 604 is there for a reason...

  28. I had the same thing with my two hours of listening to the new line of Klipsch speakers with the copper spun woofers. They sure look pretty but after a while you get a ringing in your ears and it seems to hang on....and on... I have a pair of RC-3 II's and an RC-3 II and they seem very harsh to me after any prolonged length of time. I have them stored away and will probably be selling them. I went back to my KSB 3.1's and my KSP-S6 surrounds with a KSP-C6 center. I love the sound stage and ease of listening.

  29. If you like Sinatra find his live recordings with the Basie band. Great stuff!

  30. You can get a nice taste of Sinatra for about $10.00. The Jazz Label; " Real Gone " has two different sets right now with more in the works. Vol1 consists of 8 records on 4 Cd's and deals with his earlier stuff from about 1957 to 1960. Great Big Band recordings with arrangers like May and Riddle and some mighty fine musicians to boot. Vol2 consists of 9 records on 4 Cd's and not only features great musicians and arrangers but many say this period; 1961 thru 1962 is when Sinatra was at his peak.. voice wise. Were talking roughly $20.00 plus shipping for 17 classic Sinatra recordings.

  33. All I can say is, I'm in love with this setup. Sampling Pink Floyd "The Endless River". It feels like I'm inside the sound coming from them. A very rich, enveloping experience I guess is how I would describe it. So glad I made the leap and purchased them.

  34. I would just get a quality USB DAC then run it into a desktop 2 channel amp with a set of KSB 1.1's and a powered 8'' sub. That would be an awesome setup right there.

  40. Thanks for the replies... I intend on acquiring a new amplifier soon, I was just concerned if I could be damaging the speakers with the current receiver. Unfortunately, since I hooked up the new speakers, I am unable to use my CD player... The vibrations cause the unit to skip even at low-moderate levels. I assume it because they are delivering a much lower frequency than my previous speakers. I've been looking real close at the NAD C 375BEE DAC, with the PP 375 Phono Preamplifier MDC Module for my next purchase, but I tell ya, some of the equipment I've seen down in the garage sale has me wondering if I would be better served helping some of you folks offload your unused gear. There is some nice equipment down there!

  43. I'm sure Moray meant no disrespect. He's just passionate about his beloved sport. And comparing palladiums to RF is more of an apples to oranges comparison. because your talkin a 400 dollar speaker against a 4,000 (P-37) dollar speaker. I'll be sure and post up my thoughts about their performance.

  45. that has been my experience. my 3channel HT setup uses 3 CF3's, the center is laying on it's side, atop the 4th unused speaker. i have no complaints with how it sounds. FWIW i have the L&R speakers jammed in corners and toed in to the sweet spot. for HT i use the center for a better center image for multiple listeners. for most music, i only use 2 channels and sit in the sweet spot. having the center as an option makes the CF setup very versatile, and phenomenal either way it's configured. the wide spacing works well with most music, but some poorly engineered tracks really benefit from having the center channel available, for example some pop/rock with a hard L/R mix with little mono content. anything can be made to sound good in this room. i could not say that when i only had 2 channels available in the past, and still cannot say the same about my Khorn 2ch room. my humble advice to gmjungbluth would be to go for it.
    1 point
  46. Gary, you may take the prize for smallest successful Khorn-room implementation. I have a pair of Khorn clones in an 11x12x8 feet study, in two corners, and I can tell you that I experience the same effect: one person listening is great if I am near the center of the room (slightly behind center) and not so good if more than one person is in the room with me. There is a futon bed laid flat on the left wall, a desk on the right and a filing cabinet behind the listening position. The corner horns actually wind up not taking any real useable space since they fit so nicely in the corners. They even hold vases and other pretty objects that seem to show up unannounced... Hi-fi enthusiasts typically have got to want to overcome the hurdles of small rooms to achieve good stereo or multichannel listening. Personally, I value sound quality over small size. Most people that I've met seem to want to reverse that. It's encouraging to me that Mr. Thom has asked these questions in order to get the best SQ. As Salieri's character once said: "I revel in that sound that I alone seem to hear..." (Amadeus)

  48. Andy, I am sorry but I have no idea how they compare audibly. Now as far as build quality, the 3520(or 3560) did not take a back seat to any player built around that time. Bill
