  5. Morning folks. LF off to play tennis. Jake walked in the natural area of the yard. Limiting his walks since his melt down Sunday. Also ordered some Glucosamine for his joints from Amazon yesterday. Good reviews. Working on cup number 2 and watching the futures. Cleaned up 6 CDs yesterday.....look new now. Did about 30 DVDs for the library. I can help you out in small batches Joe but shipping may be $$$. Let me know. Good looking equipment Jason. I'm calling Gary if I have appliance problems No commute for me though I did drive about 40,000 a year for 19 years before retirement. It's hump day for you cheese chasers......make us proud. 16. I've owned only two projectors....Panasonic AE3000u and now the Panasonic AE8000u. Absolutely love them. The 8000u is MUCH brighter than the 3000u. The main feature I needed was the Lens Memory feature. Since my screen is 2.35:1, I didn't want to have to manually zoom / focus each time the format changed between 2.35:1 and 16:9. With a 16:9 screen, you don't have to worry about it because you will just have grey bars on top and bottom. For me, that feature alone led me to the Panasonic as at the time, it was the only projector that had that feature. When I was looking to upgrade from the 3000u, the JVC has the feature but it was $2,000 more so I opted for the Panny and could not be happier. Cool thing with the 8000u is it automatically detects when the format changes and adjusts accordingly. Ellisr63 is using a Panny 8000u on a 180" scope screen. When I rebuild my front wall, I will be approx 9' with a 150" screen.

  17. Jason, that adds up to a decent price that while not a total giveaway is attractive for what he would be getting. Nice setup that if a sub needed is ready for it, IMLO

  18. Afternoon friends... Interesting story there MKP, that commute would kill after a week, see you made it a few days at least to find out Good luck Dave with the sell off... OK, my dishwasher story..... My thoughts about something floating around in the output side of the pump to the sink drain turned out to be a good guess! I managed the get a good look at all the possible parts around the pump and motor. Then, plugged my model number into Google, and BANG!, a great site popped up with parts for my model and possible reason why they don't work. What could be better? So, I noted a nylon tube which the output hose was connected to on my unit, saw it in the parts listing online as a 'check valve'... I figured that was it, as I could get water to dump into the bucket I setup, AND, could here all kinds of 'back splash' going on at the same time in the washer itself. So, a partial blockage. I removed the tube with the check valve in it. SURE ENOUGH!, there was a piece of plastic toggling around up inside the tube! I removed it, and it looked like one of the fingers from a spaghetti server !! Cleaned out some food particles and what looked like a piece of string/rope as well. I blew through it, and it would block me from sucking air, so I knew it was good... ALSO, vacuumed UNDER the counter space floor, THAT was fun, broken glass shards, lots of dust, all cleaned up. THEN, I managed to make some fixes to the way it was mounted to the counter top underside. For the first time, it is NOT loose (installers only used ONE screw!) and also fixed the top rack which was messed up with the limiter on one of the tracks keeping me from pulling it all the way out. Only took a little over 9 years in this home to finally get that corrected........SHEESH. Gave the whole thing a test run and a wash cycle, MAN, that thing dumps water now!!! Went out and mowed my front lawn afterward in the heat the humidity to celebrate, now in cooling off. Sorry for the long posts, but I know some like to write stories, be it auto, BBQ or plumbing. more later... .........Gary .....and thanks for reading....

  20. Honda update Finally pulled the CEL code and sure enough it was PO505....IAC issue. Pulled off the TB and removed the IAC....was pretty nasty...so cleaned it up, sprayed it down with grandpa's favorite lubricant (ATF and Acetone mixed 50/50) and blew some compressed air through it. cleaned up the TB, set the idle screw as instructed, cleaned the MAF and put it all back together. Day three of no surging idle and actually seemed to pick up 1-2mpg....thanks for the advice guys! Also....friend stopped by on Sunday to look at a '76 Vette that I'm cleaning up to sell for a friend......loves the Honda and inquired if I'd be willing to sell/trade for his wifes car that they were considering giving their son when he turns 16 in a few months. Asked why they didn't want to give that car to their son...."It'll get him in too much trouble....he needs something slow.." They are the original owners of a 2004 Volvo S60-R AWD....has a little over 120K but has had all the major repairs done about 10K miles ago (timing belt, head gasket, valve job, new turbo, etc....) Said if I was interested they'd come up with a fair price and we'd talk.....might be up for that!

  21. Hump day! Morning all. We're almost at the midway point of the week. Hope others are having a better one than I. I must have missed it Chuck, what happened to Jake?
    3 points
  22. ....ooops, sorry for the double post, don't know why THAT happened........ But yes Carl, just a couple hours of playing around and done... The actual part should it have been bad was only $18... Hardest part was getting the damn band clamp back on... Could not do it with the limited space under side, SO, I took the hose clamp from the sink drain tube and swapped it out.........ahh, much better Just UNLOADED the dishes, and for the first time in a LONG time, the glasses and dishes actually 'squeak' when you touch them, which proves we have had grimy dishes for a long time thinking they were clean.....eeeeek ! This was because the rinse cycles were not emptying, and the following wash cycles had used, dirty water! I was alerted to this, this morning when I took the load out. Everything had a film on it that would smear when you touched it. All history now.... Ok, back to other things.... ............Gary PS, my work is only 9 miles down the road... wasn't always that way!

  23. I was jamming to Magic Man earlier, their music holds up well. I've always been a Heart fan, but never saw them live, hopefully I will see them sometime soon. Nancy is an underrated guitarist, and Ann is one of the best female vocalist ever, still going strong after all these years.

  25. Since I have family just east of Panama City, FL (Mexico Beach, just east of Tyndall AFB) and have driven through that area... I agree that the white sandy beaches and clear water are nice. BUT, you can't go anywhere from Pensacola to east of Panama City (most of the year), without running into a ton of tourists. Unless you travel there during the winter months, and enjoy sitting on a cool/cold, windy beach. Yes, the beaches in that part of Texas do have some brown sand and cloudy waters. But the Padre Island National Seashore is an amazing place (wilderness), with lots of wildlife and great views... and with much less people on the beach itself. And unless I misunderstood the OP, he appeared to be looking for a place to get away with a little solitude... Which Padre Island National Seashore easily provides.

  26. Driving down Padre is exhilarating. But go as though you were heading into the wilderness as once you get a few miles down the beach it's pure beauty and nothing else. Dave

  27. I am redoing my basement and just installed an in wall 32' Redmere cable from Monoprice. I tested the cable with my existing A/V before the ceiling was drywalled. In addition, i had my HDMI cable run through a concealed 1.5" diameter conduit pipe from the A/V source to the projector so, if cable fails, I can swap it without the need to tear up the ceiling.

  29. Took him for a walk Sunday....less than a mile. He laid down several times and panted a lot. He also walked differently. I had cold water with me so that wasn't the problem. I suspect hip problems/pain. As I mentioned I ordered Glucosamine yesterday. Thanks for asking. Chuck....Jake said to tell Baxter that getting old is hell! Actually, I suspect a hangover....(just to lighten things up a bit...) Hope he feels better soon!

  37. Any projector will "support" 2.35:1...well sorta. Most projectors shoot a native 16:9 aspect ratio. So an image on a 16:9 screen will fill the entire screen. If the movie is 2.35:1 format, you will get grey bars on the top and bottom of your screen. You can either mask the grey bars or leave them be. If however you have a 2.35:1 screen, if you shoot a 16:9 image onto the screen, you will be flush top and bottom but will have grey bars on the left and right. You can either mask them or let them be (I let them be). When the content is 2.35:1, now you have grey bars on the left and right AND on the top and bottom. So what you do is zoom in with your projector until the image fills the entire width and height of your screen. In this case, the grey bars on top and bottom extend above and below my screen and disappear against my grey front wall. Let me know if this makes sense.

  41. Afternoon gang... Kinda slow at the shop this week. Just one big job on the book later this week. Yesterday me and wife closed shop about 2:00.... we took that 2nd trans back to the place that sold it to us. They gave me a full refund....... just glad to be done with it... My commute to the shop......it's 11 miles from the house....passing farms and cornfields and sipping coffee on the way......it's a tough drive, but somehow me and the wife do it....lol lol Years ago I took a job at a Honda dealer down in the DC area, they through some big money at me....at the time.....they wanted me to run the shop.....it wasn't to far from the house I was living at the time. But it took me over 2 1/2 hours to get there and the same to get back home. I lasted three days there.....I told them I was going back to the other dealer I had left. They said....we can pay ya more....no thanks....back to the other dealer I went..... Ok guys have a good day....check in later... MKP :-)

  42. Hello and good morning my friends........... :emotion-44: On my THIRD MUG of Melitta medium ground Columbian roast in the Dunkin Donut's mug you have seen in photos.. Looks like everyone is enjoying the morning, and we have also, along with breakfast out on the deck like it was the weekend But this will be a bit of a newsy post. News #1 Pizzing off the neighbor (note, NOT plural) for REAL ! Last night around 10pm. I was taking out my trash and recyclables etc. I noted the doctor (my neighbor to our south yard) was coming round the corner, and when he spotted me, hit the brakes HARD to stop and catch me... His window when down and he started off with a big smile and welcomed us back home from our trip, then asked how it all went etc. so, it was pleasant.. Then he said he wanted to talk about another topic..... "Its about the MUSIC" he said.... Thinking to myself, OH BOY, here it comes......! His complaint started with, "Don't get me wrong, we LOVE your music, but on Sunday mornings".....(this is when he and his wife are in the hot tub on their deck) "It is pretty loud, and when I get a call on the cell and have to leave my deck and go IN the house and CLOSE the slider so I can hear the call, it can be a bit of a nuisance....it also doesn't let us listen to our own music"... (oooh, that was the clincher!) Well, I understood this, and thought a number of times that it was a bit over the top........fine for my other neighbor Pat who insists on it being loud and clear, but not for everyone I guess. So, he reached out to shake my hand (which as NEVER happened) and all is fine. I have been running the audio at a much lower level. Sent Pat an email to let her know that I had been spoken to about it and hoped she could still hear it at the lower level... So, that is the neighbor PIZZED story... end of the great loudness era News #2.......my dishwasher has NOT been emptying fully, and there is something blocking the output side of the pump. I can jog the door handle to make it start and stop and most of the time, it will free up the line and water flows freely. This morning, I pulled it out from under the cabinet for the FIRST time to have a look. Disconnected the hose from the drain under the sink, ran a rinse cycle, emptied into a bucket, ALL is clear there, nothing in the hose and nothing in the sink drain pipe either, ALL CLEAR. There must be a valve in the system at the pump that is sticking, as the same motor simply reverses direction from washing to discharging... Will check the Whirlpool forums and see if this is a common and fixable problem. PLUMBING !!! Then, I can't move the unit out that far because the original builders of the house did not allow much AC cable to the junction box .....sigh......... Ok, end of rant on my last day of vacation... .........Gary

  43. Figured while I have the RSW-15 opened up, I thought I would share some photos of the beastly woofer. Here is a shot of the amp attached to the middle bracing My Nikon wouldn't fit inside the woofer so this is a shot of the passive using my iPhone.

  44. Drive down tonight and you can stay a couple of nights with me. The weather is mid 80's and low humidity. You can drive for 5 miles down Front Beach Road (PCB) without stopping. Everybody went back to school it seems. I'll walk out on the beach and take a few pictures for you here in a minute. The water is beautiful and the beer is cold and dem shrimps is tasty. Oh yeah, there's a guy from texas staying next door. Keith

  45. Fuzzy, this is an important point: We can use Lens Memory on our Panasonic projector to select several of our most common formats (image shape; Aspect Ratios) without any manual zooming. When the projector automatically zooms from 16:9 to 2.35:1, it is quite dramatic (our 2.35 on our screen is bigger; see below). We love the Panasonic (there are newer models now). It is bright, and sharp as a tack. We can see incredible facial detail on a 2.35:1 Seymour screen that is 130" wide and 55.3" high (149" diagonal, to go by the industry's 70 year old misleading way of writing specs). IMO, it's better to have a 2.35:1 screen than a 16:9 (1.78:1). When filmmakers decide to make true widescreen movies, nicknamed 'scope by the industry (e.g., 2.35:1), they expect (and hope) that the total area of the image will be projected larger, not smaller, as it is with "letterboxed" images on a 16:9 screen. To maintain the same 16:9 image size you were planning on for 16:9 when you are showing movies of that shape, you would need to get a 2.35:1 screen that is somewhat wider. That way 16:9 should be the same size, but 2.35 would be considerably bigger, and very panoramic. You can get the info you need to do the math from the Seymour website. Make sure the projector you pick can cover full screen width at the throw you will have. You may know this, but in case you don't .... naming the HDTV format 16:9 and calling it widescreen was probably another attempt to mislead. Yes, it is wider than the old TV screens, which were about 1.33:1. But, at 16:9 (1.78:1) it is narrower than the American standard screen from 1953 on, which is 1.85:1, and was called "widescreen" for a very few years, untill the public caught on that it was now standard, and that processes that were true "widescreen" ranged from 2.2:1, on through 2.35:1 (later 2.39:1 to hide splices) for CinemaScope and Panavision, to the very rarely used super wide ARs, like 2.76:1. We counted 10 aspect ratios, so far.

  47. Agreed on the cables. Monoprice is good option. I use Mediabridge Ultra Series HDMI (High-Speed Cat 2 cables, necessary for 3D), The high bandwidth eliminates ghosting with 3D playback. Not expensive either, you can get (2) 6ft cables for only $10 bucks.
