  2. You have the attention of the Moderating Team. We are on this.....may take a couple of days, but we are working towards a resolution. Maybe next, y'all can find out why all the specification pages, for the old/discontinued speakers, have been removed from the Klipsch website? Apparently someone had the bright idea of deleting all this information with no real plan of putting it back... It's been gone for nearly 3 weeks now.

  3. It's my understanding that the dual spider designs are there to help reduce voice coil rocking. This allows one to have a smaller gap between the voice coil and the magnetic structure, which increases the strength of the motor. I bet it's also related to strength when bottoming out the sub - which is going to be common for subwoofers. Higher frequency drivers simply don't need to move as much, so the single spider is more than strong enough at the limit. My question about the felt mod is how much attenuation are you getting? This would be something very easy to measure. I cannot fathom how a thin piece of felt is going to attenuate the "noise" significantly more than the attenuation provided by the speaker cone itself. Maybe 1dB'ish at best? I think what's more likely happening is that the resonance of the suspension is changing frequency. Generally designers try to push that resonance above the passband of interest. Adding mass to the suspension is going to lower that resonant frequency - likely down into the passband. The effect is subtle, but I don't like the sound of spider resonance. I'd much rather keep it above the range of my driver, but maybe some people like the sound of it? Maybe adding the mass causes it to be a wider Q and therefore gets stimulated less easily? I think method of attachment would be more important here. If I were trying to attenuate suspension noises, then I'd be looking at ways to absorb sound that don't involve attaching things to the moving structure. Internal damping of the cabinet will go a long way in that regard (which is just a fancy way of saying use a pillow inside). Btw, the best way to hear suspension noise is to play subsonic frequencies. Air leaks from the gasket seal make little air puffing sounds, sometimes it sounds like a squeak. You can hear the suspension flapping around too - often times the voice coil leads are bouncing against the diaphragm and spider - a minor bend here and there can prevent that from happening. The thing is the noises really don't start showing up until you're really pushing things hard. If you bring down the excursion to better match what's happening at the normal passband frequencies, then all of those noises really go away. All you hear is your voice modulating a little bit like talking into a fan. All that to say, I think I'd put this in the category of more potential to do harm than add benefit. But hey, maybe there's some crazy floppy spiders out there that just make all sorts of noise. I think I'd personally rather spend my time finding a better driver....like that Klipsch K48. That's a solid low noise driver (when kept under its xmax).

  4. Morning Gang Well my new Mr Crow "complete" kit came in last night. Annnnd, it's turns out to be far from complete for what i paid. So i'll be dealing with that today. There is now a guy on the Bay that is back making Kits and parts again after being gone for two years. I will be buying his "Complete" kit, and likely part out this one, hey chit happens. Farm run in awile, a little security lighting on a Barn, Farmers like motion sensor's. Went through all of the CB radios last night, all are indeed "Toast/junk", will stop by the truck stop on the way to the farm and buy a fancy new CB for the guy that wanted "one" good working unit. He does not need to know they were all junk. good thing it's "Trash Day" Taco Tuesday or Burrito morning is more like it ! Time for that second cup, good day...... :emotion-44:

  5. Happy Tuesday everyone. Cool crisp mornings here and 70's in the afternoon. I like winter in San Antonio. Looking forward to this weekend when I have some buddies over to play in the music sandbox. For now, the show must go on, or in my case, the work must get done. Ya'll have a great day.

  8. I just checked mine. Now, you do. I meant I didn't know of anyone who kept Bluetooth on their phone activated on purpose. Sheesh. Of course, it's on purpose! When I get into my car, my car stereo automatically connects to my phone so I can answer and make calls hand-free. If I had to go to "Settings, Bluetooth, On" and "Settings, Bluetooth, Off" every time I got in and out of my car, it would be a PITA.

  9. Loved these videos, pilot to pilot, you should be a CFI if you are not already."Other than that, have a nice day." Duster Duty from here on out, pretty much includes the Nevada move ina year and a half too. Got gigged just last month for flying too close to SacMetro (Surounded by Farms). Fortunately, I have avoided that, known plenty that have, and listened to plenty of audio of that happening.

  15. I saw no evidence of that whatsoever for the products being manufactured in Hope during our factory tour this past April. When I heard the latest Promedia 2.1 it looks like the speakers and sub are both cheaped out on compared to mine that is about seven years old. You based your comments on the Promedia speakers?? Every Klipsch Product they produce is a direct reflection on the company as a whole in the marketplace...........Because we know klipsch heritage is built to better standards does not equal a better customer service experience nor does it equal great quality across the product range Offering different levels of product is fine alot of companies do that but you should still invest in QC to the same level across the board. letting out sub par anything is bad press, There are countless poor reviews of many klipsch headphones, iem's, pro-media, and quintet products. those people getting a bad taste in there mouth will have no reason to look further into the klipsch line and will no doubt bad mouth klipsch to friends and family. Which equals loss of potential customers

  17. Getting this Drone repaired and up and flying, i saw some inherent problems, like how in the hell do youi NOT crash? How in the hell do you fly this thing? How does this controller work? Going to be a lot of little kids on Xmas, numbering in the millions this year, and if this is their first drone, you will see why i made these videos. (For The Dad's) Dumb Video camera im using would not "Pause" more than 30Seconds before turning off! So the video turned out to be THREE! Dam Camera.

  19. So you must have enough water there? What are they growing? Rice/Hay/Walnuts/Almonds/Olives/Hops/Pears/Peaches/Avacados, that's about it. They are all 4th generation farm folks. Water is not talked about much, they have NO problem(s). 24 years ago i met one, Pub somewhere, seen him over the next ten years, here and there, then one day get invited to a BBQ, that's all she wrote, i was being checked out by everyone, they must have approved, i value their lifestyle and respect it. I do odds and end favors for all of them, they are happy to pay meterials/electrical mostly. To date im known by at least 22 farmers that own/control well over 60K acres. These are not the kind of people that invite people into their life everyday, it's just not done. im pretty thankfull.

  22. I can't believe I am posting here... but this is all an accident.... I just bought a pair of Forte II by mistake. And I didn't even know there was a company called "Klipsch" till a few days before I bought them. ( Still don't know how to say it) Oh man… after years of not listening to music on a decent stereo I am enjoying music at level I didn’t know was possible: spine tingling, gut warming, waves of warm colored sound blanketing me. So for the last 14 years the best audio I had was some sound bar with 3in speakers and a sub. I was becoming so frustrated with tiny sound. So I decided to try and match the mid-fi (lo fi?) High School system I had from 1976-2001 (KLH 3 way with speakers about 2ft high with a Harmon Kardon 50w per channel I think) I went to Best Buy, I felt too cheap to drop over $600 on tower speakers and the cheaper ones sucked. So I got some decent bookshelf speakers. Klipsch M15 they were good. They sounded clear and I heard elements I hadn’t heard. But I wanted something I could FEEL like I remember with my old floor standing speakers. So I looked on Craigslist. I saw a pair of big speakers that in the picture looked about the same size as my 1970 KLHs. They were listed a Klipsch KG4 for $270. I looked them up and they seemed like okay speakers and the same size as my old High School KLHs. I went to the sellers house. The speakers seemed bigger than they should be. But they were comply pristine. Then I listen to them and I was listening for flaws and didn't really find any. I was going to listen for a while and analyse everything, but then I got chills down my spine (listening to Electrelane) which the expensive Best Buy speakers hadn't done. So I said SOLD! BUT when I got them home I realized something was WRONG! 67 lbs each! (I knew they seemed heavier than 45lbs) 35 tall by 16 wide by 12 deep... These aren't KG4s! After some research I found out they were these things called Forte IIs and these weird people called audiophiles seemed to think they were good. So here I am it's near 2:00 am and I am being enveloped in a whole warm colourful wall of dynamic alive multidimensional sound even at low volumes. I am sitting and listening to music for the first time in decades... but it's never been like this. Rehearing old music opening to new music. New categories of music, piano, sitar, even pop! OMG can't beleive I have been missing this. I didn't know what a sound stage was now I have one. It's a new world. Oh no am I an accidental Audiophile because of a in accurate Craigslist post? So what do you all think? Should I demand my money back?

  23. Terrible name. I know what they were going for, but the name was ill thought out for exactly the reason Dave pointed out. Still don't see a replacement for the Fusion 8100 in their lineup either, and have not seen anything about a proper replacement for the XDA-2.

  24. This is. I have tried both 2 & 3 way with 402s/510s and multiple driver types, coax, etc. and it was clearly 3-way for me. This would be the Jub setup for me, but others might prefer 2-way. I have this exact setup with DBB bass cabinets at one end of my room, and my avatar at the other end of my room. Plenty of experience comparing these horn combinations and also with different drivers.

  25. I loved my rf5s , I recently sold them to my father in law. They are a great speaker with a smallish footprint. They were my introduction to Klipsch, I bought them new in ~2004 for around 1500$ if I recall correctly. MSRP for RF 5s was around 850-900$ EACH and RF 7s were about the price of the new RF 7II (1100-1200 EACH) RF5s at any price under 600 IMO is really an outstanding deal. They have never generated interest like RF7s which is unfortunate because they sound more balanced through the midrange. Due to their smaller size and similar specs to lesser models like the rf3 (II) and RF 82 has really brought their overall value down. There is no comparison when it comes to sound quality and workmanship, the RF 5 wins hands down every time.

  30. Well matched appearance yes. However one is vinyl and one is real wood. It's a night and day appearance upgrade. And with how your doing the towers in the back would be fine. Easy to set modules on top of towers. Just a lot of money and speaker that won't get utilized very often. Who did you order your stuff from?

  31. This must be mine--erm,...it's my opinion that they solved different problems in different ways (at vastly different historical times). And I still think the one thing would be a wonderful top for the other thing. I think it would be poor form to say more than that I love Klipsch, I'm happy to own their stuff, and that I'm grateful that the company provides the resources to support this wonderful community.

  45. People disagree about tone control use. I'm in favor of using the bass control, especially, for the following reasons: Recordings differ in their balance CDs sometimes sound harsh & out of balance toward the top, which is usually better addressed by bass boost than by treble cut, IMO. You don't want to lose those shimmering overtones by turning down the treble. Good recordings usually sound good with the controls flat, but not always. Sometimes it depends on whether the people doing the transfer actually give a **** about the recording and/or the listener. See Chris A's many posts in this forum about the "remastering" he does at home. To me, SACDs tend to sound better, but this might be because because the engineers and producers know that they are likely to be purchased by audiophiles. One AES test showed that they couldn't tell the difference, but I haven't looked at their methodology, and don't have CD/SACD pairs (or Hybrids) of their test discs. So far, Blu-ray movies seem to have very good sound, on the average, especially, in my experience, with DTS-Hd Master Audio. Vinyl recordings (especially surviving older discs) often had the bass reduced to pamper the cutting process, and if a CD, SACD, of DVD-A is made from a old master, this might be true of them, as well. Some of the time the bass cut was done late in the chain, just before mastering, but old engineers we heard from in a recording course I took said they generally set their microphones for bass roll-off, and judiciously replaced some, but usually not all of the bass in the final mix. Don't expect good sound from MP3, and the like An Article of Faith subscribed to by the "Golden Ears" audiophiles that lurk in the readership and staffs of high end magazines is that people should always have their tone controls flat, or buy preamps, pre/pros, or receivers with no tone controls. They have a variety of reasons, including phase changes that can occur when tone controls are turned away from flat. Whenever I have had a recording that seemed to need more bass, it has always sounded better with a some bass boost than without. The best test is how it sounds to you. IMO, the speakers favored by the "Golden Ears" often have a veiled sound in the upper mids and treble, so, by contrast, their bass comes through strongly, even if not very precise sounding. Not so with Klipsch! In those magazines and websites, Klipsch has the reputation of being too bright, but they probably haven't tried turning up the bass a bit, because that's against their rules. Do you have Audyssey? One option I use occasionally on a very few over-bright recordings (only if I find the sound unpleasant) is, after adding some bass boost, trying switching back and forth between Audyssey Flat and Audyssey Reference. Either of these come earlier in the chain than true tone controls (beware virtual sliders, because they won't work with Audyssey). Audyssey Reference imposes a slight treble roll off (-2 dB at 10K and about -5 dB at 16K, which would be about the upper limit of your tweeters) but it also puts in the "BBC Dip," at about 2K, which is a place that harshness often occurs. I don't think any conventional tone control can do that. Caution, Audyssey almost always attenuates the bass a little, so guess what Audyssey users usually do? They turn up the bass control, and also turn up their subwoofer, if they have one. Then they get room modes minimized, and some smoothing of mids and highs. Over the years, my preferred bass boost has been between + 4 dB and + 8 dB, depending entirely on the recording. Exactly what that would be in terms of the rotation of the tone control depends on the design of your tone control. Some modern ones only provide a +/- 6 dB range, or a +/- 12 dB range. Some classic preamps provided as much as +/- 20 dB! On my old McIntosh C28 (1970s), they specified a 4 dB average boost (depending on the exact frequency) in the bass per one tone control gradation. They also provided a "Bass Trim" control that provided up to 6 dB more boost, so they must have thought some people, in some rooms, with some speaker placements, would find it useful. My typical setting was B + 1 or 2 gradations, which would be a boost of about 4 to 8 dB. My Luxman also had bass controls, plus a separate "Low Boost" switch. In case you are relatively new at this, I should say that McIntosh and Luxman were, and are, two of the most respected manufacturers of electronics, and thought that playing around with tone balance was O.K. The approx 4 to 8 dB boost is also the typical boost used by many of my friends. Try any recording flat first, then if you think it is bass shy, feel free to turn up the bass!
