Mornin' all. Sorry to hear about your health problems, Neil. Hope you heal quickly. And ...you're right about ER's and hospitals. Too many sick folks and those places are absolute germ factories. Mark ... you continue to do the right things for Mom. Kudos. Starting to cool off in Colorado. It's welcome after weeks of heat. We're planning a few days of vacation in-state later this month. Going to rent a cabin in the Durango, CO area in the SW part of the state. It's gorgeous and a lot to do like white water rafting, hiking , trout fishing and eating too much (my hobby). Cheers guys.

This is what I've been doing this week. It's cooler in the mornings, but it get miserable by about 10. There just isn't any wind...

Good morning all. Starting to find my way around the new platform. Spent 10 hours in ER on Tuesday and another 3 hours yesterday. A bum bursa caused swelling in my right elbow. Fluid was drawn to be analyzed and X-Rays were taken, but hours passed before the decision to make an incision, scrape out the bursa, drain the fluid and pack the wound with gauze. As I was being wheeled to the surgical suite I asked if I might get something to eat, as the Grape Nuts I had 8 hours earlier were no longer working for me. The surgeon disappeared and reappeared with 2 small bags of pretzels, one for me and one for him. For the next 10 days the packing needs to be removed and re-packed daily. Apparently, they expected me to do it. They sent me home with more packing and tweezers. I'm right handed, it's my right elbow and I need to use a mirror to see the wound. My wife refused to help. Perhaps it was unwise for me to facetiously warn her not to nick my ulnar nerve. Contacting my internist and visiting nurse organizations quickly revealed that no one would touch this without an order from the ER doctor. I had to return to the ER yesterday to get an order. I recommend avoiding ERs and hospitals. They're full of sick people and overworked staff.

Yes, very lucky to find someone both compassionate And trustworthy these days. We brought my mom to our house after she had a couple falls at her house, she was 86. My wife and were still working so we brought in someone to watch her during the day. Not only did she watch her but also helped herself to our belongings. I at least had the foresight to install a lock a bedroom where valuable info, banking, checks, etc. were kept. After telling the agency she wasn't to return one thing led to another with me refusing to pay a months worth of invoices. After explaing why to the "unknowing" COO of the company and being threatened with letters that would direct the issue to bill collectors and their attorneys, they were informed that both a civil and criminal lawsuit was in their future as a close family member is a lawyer in a well known firm in the city. The letters and actions ceased and the billing was dropped. Had no choice but to put Mom in a nice home where she passed a few months later. I still blame myself for that decision at what I believe was the cause for her give up. It ain't easy.

Morning gang... Neil hope you get better soon.... that bursa sound painful.... I didn't know what it was, I had to look it up. Any trip to the ER sucks... We were in the ER a couple months back with mom....it just sucks... So The BOSS found me a new/used desk on CL last night. We will be re-doing the office at the house. The computer at the house sits in this old cubby thing...it's old and falling apart. Tonight we will start..... gotta find new homes for the gear that's stacked behind me.... two sets of Chorus's.... EV i's..... and a stack of Carver amps.... I guess I'll start putting all that extra gear in my vacant daughters room..... Hey doesn't everyone have extra gear stacked in there kids old vacant bedrooms later.... MKP :-)

Morning all, Coffee really good this morning. 2nd cup going down. WOW... what a nice day it is...... temps in the mid 60's right now.... will be high 70's low 80's today..... and yesterday was much better also... So today I'll be working on "Krystal's" Toyota..... Who is Krystal you ask???? She is the young lady that goes to mom's house and baths her. She is very gentle and kind.... you can tell she loves what she does. When she is taking care of mom, mom will reach up and touch her face in a very loving manner. Last month mom's insurance stopped paying for the in-home care that Krystal provides.... so we now pay her..... and I will be taking care of Krystal's Toyota OK gang have a great day.....check-in later... My better half is a nurse, kidney dialysis is her specialty. I whole heartedly concur with the overworked staff part of this. Don't go into the hospital if anyway you can avoid it, some people come out dead because of mistakes due to overworked staff.

If they aren't the same you will have to go to HP's website to download and install the drivers for the replacement PC. I've done this and it works.

what I usually do, since I work in this field, is grab another pc, and a connection device to connect & mount that old HD via usb, copy desired data from it to a viable pc (that 2nd one) then if / as desired, copy again either to a long term backup location (archive type drive or set, NAS or the like) or to a replacement pc. that's my preferred method of operation. good luck. keep us posted which approach you try & your results. sounds like there are a few who can offer advice or support.

The boot HD will be looking for the configuration of your old motherboard and processor. I have switched out motherboards, switching the processor and had a boot without problems. You will most likely have to go into the setup menu and reconfigure the boot menu. I am no expert, but have always had two sons that could guide me through the procedure, if needed. They are both IT pros . One is a network and storage specialist and the other is head of global VR content for LeEco. Neither live in the area though. When I switched motherboards, it was with the same setup as the previous one. It has been many years since I did this, so take my advice with a grain of salt

Put the LaScala's inside and see what you think, and try the Forte's in the garage, you could always move them back. Put the best sounding where they will get used the most. I think you just like the LaScalas better. If I had to guess it's the midrange and horn bass of the LaScala , I would feel the same. Not that I don't like the forte's, we have some, and it is smaller but mostly a completely different design ? Could be the difference ?

Christy is going to list all of those involved up to know, but to keep that history alive and secure for another 75 years is going to take some effort from a lot of people from this Forum. I'm looking forward to hearing more details. The first time I toured the museum in 2005, I was amazed at the history contained there, but over time I became rather discouraged about what may happen to the museum with the change of company ownership and the seemingly lack of attention to the facility. The future of the museum now appears secure. I know there was a lot of work behind the scenes to get to this point, and I applaud all of you who had a hand in this.

Fellow Klipsch comrades, I am happy to share that I got a pair of LaScala Industrial this weekend. These are my first and while I love my current set up of Forte II's, in the limited garage listening time, the LSi's (in my opinion) definitely have better detail to the sound and the dynamics are quite impressive. They are the single piece and in pretty good shape -- no damage to the doghouse and the drivers are all within specs. I will be entering them in to a rehab program and once completed they will be placed in the living room to displace my Forte II. I want to share and give special recognition to Matthews and JimJimbo, both of these guys are BEYOND awesome. Both of these guys provided some great advice and I wouldn't have felt the same level of confidence in getting the LSi's if it hadn't been for these guys. Thanks a million!!! So the plan for rehab is as follows: Paint a fresh couple of coats of duratex Buy some Crites tweeters Buy new caps to refresh the AL-3's. Buy some aluminum trim All told, i think I anticipate spending about $275 to get where I want to be. Any additional thoughts or suggestions are welcomed. And yes, I'll be documenting the rehab process... -Alex

If you're trying to avoid software re-installs (due to missing discs/time/etc), yes, your old drive will need to be the boot drive. This thread is reminding me I'm a bit behind on my backups, need to fire up the backup server later tonight. If you get back up and running, if s/w re-installs is an issue, you might want to look into disk imaging software. Would allow you to create a disk image that could be later copied to a new disk for an easy restore. More complicated than regular backups, but might be worth considering.

Most fans of expensive power cords I've seen in the past claim that the cord actually energizes the music, particularly on transients, as if it works like an extra capacitor that stores power. Personally I think it's BS, since any transient spikes are going to be handled by the extra capacity stored in the toroidal transformer or capacitors. For a power cord to behave in this way seems like you'd have to have very lacking internals on your amp. Maybe consider spending that extra $1,000 on a better amp rather than a power cord to feed your apparently substandard one that totally changes its behavior with a different power cord.

Julian, Welcome to the forum. Great no, adequate for a smaller room, possibly. If you are using them in 2-channel only, I would suggest an integrated amp or preamp/amp combo over an AVR. Otherwise, get an AVR that has at least stereo preouts so you could add an outboard amp later if you so choose. Bill

If your computer is toast, you can always put this hard drive in the new one and get the data off of it. After that, you might want to go ahead and pull the old HD out and put it in a drawer somewhere in case you need something else off it. You might want to write the password on the old HD if you shelf it. That way if you need the data in a year, you won't be kicking yourself. If the HD is SATA, you are in good shape.

1) Add absorption in the nearfield of the La Scala midrange horn mouths (i.e., carpet the floor out to about a yard/metre or two, side walls...2' squares on each side wall and on front wall). 2) Move the La Scalas into the room corners with the absorption squares and floor absorption - for widest separation of the midrange horn mouths and tweeters, aimed slightly in front of your listening position, i.e., not flat on the front wall. 3) Add a few diffusion panels around the front portion of the room (especially front wall) and perhaps ceiling that are effective down to ~400 Hz, with a bass trap or two in one or more corners to control midbass down to 80-100 Hz (i.e., 2' x 4' x 4" maxi traps diagonal across the corner) 4) Remove any acoustic reflectors between the loudspeakers (except diffusion panels) out to about 1-2 yards from the midrange horn mouths and your listening position. The sound and imaging will be greatly improved if you do all of this... probably much better than they were in the garage. Chris

Suppose I need to say something. Klipsch used to offer a lifetime warranty - until piles of tweeters started showing up on their doorstep. This was back in the days of Phase Linear and Dynaco 400s - where a turn/off transient could easily take out a K-77. Then of course you also had the frat and block parties. Solid state has come a long way in 40 years. I've built over 500 Heritage networks over the last 12 years, and no one has ever lost a tweeter. ALK has built hundreds more, and we aren't getting any complaints out of that corner either. The original Universal had a fuse, but that was for the K-33, not the tweeter. The best tweeter protection is judicious use of the attenuator. C'mon people, can't you tell when a driver is in a state of distress? I do add the zeners for those that tell me they like to listen really loud. Seriously though, the third order filter section does really well on its own.

I hear you & thanks. But having never touched a soldering gun I'd rather give someone the dollars to build a pair. Hard to beat decades of experience Thanks but it' over my head. As much as I'd like to go out on faith and say "they LOOK good" having the right instruments to test & verify that would by someone experienced would be better.
