  15. actually, i probably don’t need to order anymore. one time, i switched my drink order from my usual, when i got to the pick up window, the worker looked at me and immediately starting getting my usual drink while apologizing for pouring the wrong one. yeah, they know me by now ... and at multiple locations...i have my lunch Del Taco by my office; the one down the street from my house, then my weekend one downtown. It’s funny when a worker transfers to a new place and they recognize me still.

  16. Man is this thread off course, must be the HARD OF HEARING COASTIE at the helm. I go to my local Taco Express (Stripes convenience store) for a breakfast taco which is bacon and egg with two extra strips of bacon. When the door chimes upon entry I can just hold up 1 or 2 fingers to the cook and proceed to my drink and condommints selection.

  19. Okay, the second one is done except for installing mid, tweeter and crossover and stretching brown cane grill cloth (owner will do that). These babies are 200lbs at least. Ready to work on next project - taking components from two RC7 and putting in WWT alignment in new vertical cabinet with birdseye maple veneer. Much easier.

  20. Didn't "get it today"....but did get it on the road this past weekend. New to me...2004 Volvo S60R....bought it with a blown headgasket....had head/block decked and pressure checked...went ahead and replaced timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, tensioners, pulleys, coils packs, wires, plugs, all gaskets (head, intake/exhaust manifolds, etc...) and a bunch of other hoses, vacuum lines, charge pipes replaced with silicone upgrades. Has aftermarket downpipe, stainless exhaust and a very conservative tune....approx. 325hp I'd guess at this point with it hitting about 17lbs of boost. Needs a new radiator soon....plastic end-tank separates from core under boost...loosing coolant.....may go ahead and upgrade to a Front Mount Intercooler while replacing it. Paint is excellent...tires nearly new....probably replace rotors and pads soon as well. Not bad for $1800 invested....and a few weekends of work....was a fun ride into work this morning for sure....has the BEST factory sound system I'm ever heard....Harmon Kardon speakers with alpine amp...(4) 8" woofers (2)6.5" mids (2) 3" mids and (4)1" tweeters....run by a 75watt/ch Alpine amp......Navigation updated with 2016 maps/POI...leather is nearly perfect

  22. I'm trying to do something about that right now, been talking to them about some custom KI-396's with the Forte III matte black finish to park out in the open in my house. No reason other than minor aesthetics that the 396 couldn't be used in a house, they sound insanely good, and just aren't very big.

We aren't the target of any marketing department LOL.... That being said I like watching what is happening and the Forte III is cool. That mid horn is really cool.

And back in the days before they gave us piss tests...partaking in the smoking of marijuana was a routine thing...and sometimes...a man gets hungry. To this day, i could eat military food...at least the Coast Guard's...think i may have had lunch at Naval Base once...Went to Firefighting School on Treasure Island--they must have fed us.

  27. Now the real concern would be has a recon mission been done for a Del Taco near your new digs? Is a four hundred mile run for a Del Taco fix out of the question? Or have you assigned a five hundred mile radius as the limit?

  34. Loodachris21, Welcome to the forum. The RC-62II is part of the(should have been named Reference V) Reference II Series while the R-28F and R-15M are part of the re-badged/recolored Icon/Synergy Best Buy models. Yes it is much better to have matching drivers for better timbre matching but I have no experience with the R-28F's so I really can't say how close matched they are to Ref II speakers. No experience either with the subwoofers you are considering. Others will chime in soon. Bill

  35. The La Scala's you refer to on e-sale are 1986, and have been upgraded with new Crites CT-120 tweeters. Doesn't look like the networks have been updated though. The asking prices on e-sale are typically very high. It would be best to do research on "sold" listings to get a somewhat better handle on current market value.

  39. Polk SDA II speakers $375 Matched pair of high end Polk speakers. Truly amazing sound. The SDA series was Polk’s first attempt at expanding the state of the art in loudspeakers. The SDA-2 was just below the top of the line SDA-1, which added an extra mid-woofer, a larger cabinet and a few hundred dollars to the price, along with slightly more bass extension. The SDA-2 is no slouch and many over they years felt it superior to its big brother. SDA stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, and its goal is much the same as what Bob Carver was after with his Sonic Holography: to cancel the aural crosstalk which smears the imaging clues and confuses the ear. In the Polk version, an umbilical cord connects the left and right speakers and feeds the left channel signal to the right speaker’s SDA array and vice versa. This has the effect of canceling the crosstalk, making the left ear hear the left speaker only and the right ear the right speaker only (in theory). In practice, it is far more effective than one might think. The SDA-2 speakers are mirror-imaged pairs, with the driver compliment as follows: two 1″ soft dome tweeters horizontally arrayed near the top of the front baffle; below the tweeters are a pair of mid-woofers, also horizontally arrayed. On each speaker the inner tweeter and mid-woofer are the SDA drivers; the outer pair work conventionally. Below the two horizontal arrays is another mid-woofer in line with the outer woofer above it, and below that is a 12″ diameter passive radiator, which takes the place of a conventional port. A black cloth grill covers all of the drivers. On the back panel, there is a tweeter-protection fuse above the single set of 5-way binding posts. Below the fuse is a socket for the umbilical cord connecting each speaker. Model: SDA 2 Tweeter: 2 x SL1000 Stereo Driver: 1 x MW6600x Bass Driver: 1 x MW6600x SDA Driver: 1 x MW6600x Bass Radiator: SW120 Crossover: Dual Board SDA I.C.: blade/Blade Dimensions: 12"D x 16"W x 39-1/2"H Shipping Weight: 80 lbs. per Cabinet Frequency Response: 16-26,000 Hz. (no tolerance given) Sensitivity: 92 dB / w / m Nominal Impedance: 4 ohms Suggested Amplification: 10-500 watts continuous;common ground amplifiers only

  40. February is shaping up to be the driest winter month in KC since the late 1800's. And the way it's looking the first Feb. ever with no snow. Last few days have been upper 60's - mid 70's. 76 today with mid 70's thru next Thursday. For KC this is my kind of winter. And we are in a fire warning alert with fairly strong winds. Near daily reports of grass fires along hiways. We always have a day here and there with a warm spell but not 10-12 days in a row. I've got the friggin' windows open - in FEBRUARY.

  42. Great, it's going to be a really nice break from the temps in Indy, that's for sure, have a good time and be safe. When we go to Cozumel we usually hang out at the Money Bar, nice place, bar and food service right at the edge of the water, hammocks under palm trees and only 10 minutes from where the ferry or cruise ships dock. No charge, just whatever you eat or drink. http://moneybarbeachclub.com/gallery.html

  43. just a general get together of people into audio and gear. sometimes there are demonstrations and comparisons and tutorials on different matters realting to stereo. everyones in invited, there is stuff for sale, gear, records, turntables ,tube stuff etc. its in a big mill building, 2-3 floors sometimes.(depends on whats available for unused space.) people bring food, and stereos to set up and listen to. Its an all around good day if your into audio, ht, 2ch etc. no audio snobbery, good people to chat with. you can bring a system to show off if youd like, you would need to bring your own table for such things. Usually theres a guy there that checks minor gear issues and does minor repairs or you can work something out if its bigger repair issues. Come and have a good time, bring a friend.

  44. If stored properly you can delay any significant magnetic remanence decay well beyond 50 years. They don't yet know the upper limit. The Academy of Recording Sciences (the Grammy People) has set standards for backups after mastering and require the master be backed up in two formats. One is on a hard drive of a particular brand and format. The 2nd one is on anologue tape. The hard drives were failing, or format was obsolete and couldn't be replayed too often that they require an anologue tape backup. The problem was the defective polyester binder material that was used for a period of time towards the end of the technology. This results in sticky shed syndrome. The brands and types of tapes that have this problem are well documented. The other problem is tapes in the mid-50s were acetate. Acetate leaches acidic acid, and can eat through a metal can. When I went to Hope in 2011 to make safety back ups of some of Paul's original recordings, from the 50's, they all sounded great. Some were on acetate and I started making backups of those first. I used a Tascam for playback as it is known for having one of the gentlest transports ever made, The only "breaks" I encountered were where track splices were made and the splicing tape had just run of any holding power. This is very common in 50 year old tapes. I just re-spliced and moved on. He recorded most everything on 1/4" 2 track, and I want to say at 7.5 ips, but some of it could have been at 15. There was no 30 ips. I had no reference to compare it to, but this stuff sounded incredible. He had a deal with Shamrock so a lot of it was on Shamrock, which later was bought by Ampex. There was a Gathering going through so I dubbed a few different tracks onto a playback track and played some church organ music, a jazz quartet, and a train going through Hope (that Paul had originally recorded) for a few groups of people going through. One person said "there's no hiss, how did you do that?" He recorded on very good equipment, so there was that, but I used zero noise reduction of any kind. With plus 9 tape whatever little hiss was there was I can bury below the noise floor. Generation to generation does impart more noise with tape, But if it is recorded properly, you can't hear it in the typical recording process. Everything was on tape from the 50s to the late 70s before it reached vinyl. Early Beatles was on a 2 track, than a 4 track. There might be 10 overdubs as they bounced 2 tracks to one, and so on. There is no hiss in there, EMI was know for being able to overdub multiple times with minimal noise. It is one of those things you have to hear for yourself. But I don't know of many people who have heard a Tape Project tape that didn't think it was the best version they ever heard. I brought a still sealed reel of Kind of Blue to a little Klipsch gathering at LarryC's in Maryland which he played on his Revox, several people said it was the best version they had ever heard. There wasn't any hiss. But there is a lot of junk out there, like Columbia House 3.75 ips.

  45. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a mixed down master tape (or direct copy) on a good machine. It's like vinyl with a CD black background. Now this is for 1/4" 1/2 track 15ips recordings and not the mass produced slower speed 4 track tapes of the 50's, 60's and 70's. I don't think reel to reel will ever return to its glory days. It just won't appeal to this day and age of instant gratification. For me it is like the Japanese Tea Ceremony; part art and part ritual. Also the law of supply and demand has the price of admission set very high. YMMV Here are few sources for reference quality tapes. thetapeproject.com ultraanaloguerecordings.com opus3records.com mastertapesoundlab.com Here is a picture of my machines. The Tascam BR20 in my go to for serious listening. The Revox C270 my other 2 track machine. Although the Teac X-2000M will do both 2 and 4 track. It's more a consumer market machine like the others.
