  1. I know this is not like you, but it sounds exciting really. It's like you have been set free, you can go anywhere you want and do whatever you want, no time constraints. Store your "stuff" and take a drive.

  2. Good to here sir. Nothing wrong with turning the page, and any subsequent ones. Well, fill the bucket with as many list items as you can.

  3. Let me answer that for myself. Thanks for the concern; but, no i’m not homeless and i’m not broke. I’ve lived here in this madness longer than i’ve lived anywhere else. The future is a blank canvas, and i’m not sure what picture i will paint. I’ll definitely be off the forum for a while; how long, i don’t know. There is so much that i want to do. The past several years, since my divorce, have been pretty boring. I’m ready to venture back out into the world and start living again--and i sure hope that involves a lot less time on my computer. I got a venture in the works, i got more guitars than i need that should be played, and countless half-written projects to finish. so, i’m fine...thanks for asking. if my travels take me through eastern washington i’ll tip my hat in your honor.

  6. Question for those that may know, after reading BigStewMan's posts yesterday I had a grim thought. He's not going homeless is he? I thought he had a place set up. There was a definite finality to his tone. Maybe I'm reaching, but the thought did occur.

  7. The Big Dog Mack Daddy was only one in number, it went to Mr. John Shalam at the Transfer Ceremony. He set a pretty high bar. There were also four Founder's awards given to John, Pat Lavelle, Paul Jacobs and Oscar Bernardo. We had to recalibrate after their generosity and efforts and we came up with Big Dog Mack Daddy, Jr., (BDMDJ) and you're IN!!!!!!! You and the Khorn Klub with be forever memorialized in the KMAH as giving when it was most crucial and truly needed. We need every member at every level. We are going to be rolling out all of the membership levels in a couple of weeks. We were fortunate enough to have the help of a forum member who happens to be a real market researcher come up with a very sophisticated market research survey and will be getting us some data and recommendations. Rather than the fly by the seat of the pants approach to membership levels, the Board decided it was better to accept this generous offer of true market research to come up with membership levels that had some sound information and analysis behind them. In about 3 weeks from now, maybe less, all of the levels will come one line. This involved many, many hours of time by the Executive Committee of the KHMA and Scott Orange, the forum member who stepped up at just the right time. We need every member, regardless of level, BDMDJ or General, Family or whatever the end of being named (final names are being reviewed and voted on next week). Everyone will have a VOTE and a voice. We want students, we want families, we want a lot of general members, we want people who want to pay something every month whether it is $10, 15, 25, 50 or 100 a month. We want anybody who has an interest in Paul or learning about him or an interest in STEM education by his examples. We want current employees, past employees, we want Reference owners, Heritage owners, earphone owners, computer speaker system owners, first-time owners, long time owners. Corey, I'm glad you stepped up to the plate to be a Big Dog Mack Daddy, Jr.. You are a great example, a younger guy with a young family that got so enamored with the brand you became an authorized dealer and now Jube owner. You are truly passionate about the brand AND the history. You have helped and supported the Museum at many, many stages, than you for being there one more time. Travis

  9. Welcome to the Forum. You've got probably a couple of thousands in tube amps there and a classy preamp. I'm with Travis, those look ot be in tip top shape. Without puling off the bottoms and snapping some pics, I'm thinking they have been worked on extensively restored within he last few years. Simplifying a bit, never turn on tube amps that are not connected to a speaker. Check your local Craigslst and get a pair of speakers and hook them up. Connect a source, cd player etc., and then fire them up, they should be fine. Or better yet, let the local tech fire them up for you using a variac. Start up order is preamp first, then amps. Shutdown is amps first then preamp. You have a very valuable gift. You either spend a few bucks, be awed and enjoy, or sell them to someone else who will actually enjoy them.

  10. I'm going to start letting go of some extra parts and these are first on the list...- dual phase plug, solder lug K55V midrange drivers. Widely considered to be the top of the line, best overall response mid drivers Klipsch ever used. Excellent condition, hook-up wires included. $312.00 shipped priority mail. BOTH PAIRS SOLD IN LESS THAN 12 HOURS - THANK YOU TO THE BUYERS.

  11. OK.......what about the swamping resistor? That eats as much power as the music....... In fact I have realized that when that fellow came over with his 2 watt amp I had ESNs in my Khorns. 3-way ESNs actually have 2 swamping resistors.......Hmmmm. OK, what happens when a giant bass note comes along? Just wondering. You sure the calculation is telling what it really takes to deliver the clean punch?

  14. Thank you, Pappy III, for your kindness and generosity in donating to the Khorn Corps in my name. I tried for several years to convince Pappy III to join the forum and attend the Pilgrimage, since he's been a longtime Klipsch owner and enthusiast. I knew he'd enjoy being here and there. When I thanked him by phone this morning, I told him that I felt a little like I had brought a new member to church who already feels at home. The Pilgrimage sort of changes you that way. Thanks again, Pappy III. SSH

  17. Well Steve you know I wish you the best whatever direction life takes. Be sure to jot down my contact info just in case....you know for something like bail money We've shared a PM or three and know a little about each other that the screen never tells. I like to think we will always stay in touch. Timing sucks as I will be visiting a bud in LA for Labor Day and we could have met at Del Tacos for a bite. Have fun, be careful, and remember your pass word!

  19. Thanks Man ... it’s been a long road thus far. Some here may understand, others won’t. The road hasn’t just been long, it’s been lonely -- ever been surrounded by people yet feel alone? That’s my life. Don’t get me wrong, it all hasn’t been bad--i’ve done some cool things and met some great people; but, when the spotlights not on you, it would be nice to be happy. I’ve faked it long enough. I’m halfway there. a friend that knows me kinda well told me (about me leaving) “you know that wherever you go -- you’ll still be there.” That stung at first; but, i get it -- i have to make peace with myself. I want to do that--not so much for me; but, there is a certain someone that deserves a better me than the me of today. Not that I’m a bad guy--just that happiness has eluded me and i know now that it’s somewhere inside of me--it’s gotta be. I’ll be alright. It’s been a crazy ride at times -- no logical reason why i should still be alive; but, here I am and there is a reason for it. So, while I'm living a life of gratitude, i’m hoping that someday my purpose will be revealed and that happiness will be a part of it. No more Grimaldi the Clown. It’s time to heal man--i hope it doesn’t take long (I’m impatient), who knows, i may end up even crazier than i am now -- if so, I’ll come back to the forum with more stories. I’m rather excited.

  25. Your right, that's just crazy. Room reflections and whatever junk is in the room, or lack of junk is one of the biggest factors on how anything sounds, and this is not even counting good and bad recordings. SPL, almost any speaker can reach crazy levels, SPL has little to do with size or quality of speakers. We have big speakers, some say oh you must like it loud, truthfully we rarely listen loud. We average a volume where we can talk without raising our voice, not much for speakers that weigh almost 1000 pounds and 6' wide each. It's not about spl. Another confession, I have done nothing at all to our room to change the sound. But it's our living room and it already has a large rug, big sofa, three other cushioned chairs and plenty of curtains so if anything it might be a little dead ? But your 100% right about the room affecting the sound, a perfect example was a while back. It was someone who listened to LaScalas and liked them, brought them home and was saying how thin and flat they sounded and was asking for ways to fix the problem. After many post back and forth it came out they were put in a basement, 4 cement walls and cement floor with almost nothing else in the room. A perfect example, nothing could sound good in that room as is. It's why I don't usually get involved in threads that almost all of the advice is to change out many parts of the speaker itself or electronics, and never even consider what kind of room they are in. EDIT; I was curious so I went and checked, 65 db, it's been on like that since 10 this morning, just an average.

  29. Ransomware is diabolical and expensive. Fortunately, these attacks can be prevented in part by scrupulous computing habits. Don't go to shady websites, and don't just open up unexpected file attachments from people. Antivirus helps, but doesn't compensate completely for carelessness.

  36. I also might add that I had a small world moment with these. The seller received them from his girlfriends grandfather, which he took care of for the last year before he passed away. The old man had 3 identical sets of these. And all "finished" in this manner I believe. He was a wealthy physicist that did a lot of inventing on older military communications. He also played a large part in setting the spacing on fm radio dials. I'm not sure what that means, but it is what I'm told. So the small world moment is my coworker is married to the daughter of this man(original owner). He has one of the 3 sets in his garage. Their daughter was dating the guy I bought them from. And I now learned the third set has been sold to a man in Texas. As you can tell I've really taken an interest in the history of these speakers. Learned a new respect for vintage items, as they tell such a fantastic story of their travels through time. Im 29 years old and my new beloved khorns are 20 years older. And sound much better might I add. Its been a great month learning of Paul's history. I think one of my favorite parts is the story of why the "Belle" was created. Normal everyday man without the vast technology we have today just hit a homerun! Totally amazing to me.

  40. Gary gave a good example of what this thread is about. Now, dtel also sighted a case where the Jubs gave a large sweet spot that covered most of the listening area. You guys have be listening to music and movies to long for me to discount anyone's experience. It has been mention that the focus of this thread is all spl related. This is not the case. The thread as focused on speaker reflection(ceiling / floor), imaging, sound stage, room fit, power requirements and a few other things. This thread has did what I intended, generate discussion, and have us take a step back in speaker recommendation to consider the big picture and include the room. You can have the greatest speaker in the world but, if it does not work in your room, then the baby was throw out with the bath water.

  45. Many wrong things here. Too bad the available videos do not show the entire confrontation. Even with reported past behavior and licensing issues no one should have to go thru this but again no one should let their pissed-off-ed-ness get to this. With this particular incident aside the airlines need to get back to understanding that we are customers and they are sales providers. I travel more than I want and I do not like being treated as if they are doing me a favor. I PAID your salary! Edit: whoops, sorry, forgot this was in jokes section.
