  1. Evenin' gents! BigStewMan, glad to see you're venturing out in mid Oregon. I may be able to work your way, with my job, soon. We'll have to hook up and hang out as we do here in the NW. I'll see if I can shake a little bit of the 'culture shock' that you're experiencing. I was back in the NE last week at HQ. Went to the Ben and Jerry's original factory in VT. Also, attached some pics of the flight heading back to NH.

  5. I'll have to plan a trip that way. No need to buy me anything, I'll treat, more or less looking for a little non-work travel adventure. Anyway, if you head West you can hit Portland, not LA but close enough. Keep heading West and hit the Oregon Coast. Break out a guitar, or two, and strum away sitting in the sand staring at the ocean. Didn't mean to plan your trip, but that's what I'd do. Birthdays just acknowledge another year of experience, that's the way I try and look at those aged events.

  6. on my drive today, stopped into an indian casino to use the restroom and get something cold to drink. Put $10 in a slot machine -- second pull, won $66; third pull, won $40. Cashed out and left the building.

  7. A few years ago the Big Three bike makers, Honda, Kawa and Suzuki made a "gentlemen's" agreement limiting their big bore hyper bikes to 300 kilometer/hour or 186 mph. They were assuming their self policing would keep government(s) off their back and force limitations. Kinda sorta worked until BMW broke out of their mold with the scorching 1000RR with nearly 190hp. Now you can visit most any dealer drop down $15K and walk away with a near 200hp, 450lb. rocketship that shreds the gentlemens agreement.

  8. Most i see are just about the right size, however they are real rocks. I would have gone with real river rock, tons of rivers around here too. Evaluating the wall, the wall already exists, covering it without making it look two foot thick sounded like a better way to go. Guy up the street from me did some river rock work on his home front, he used real RR and it looks like chit. Rocks were too big, grout lines run between 1/2" and 3" and then they sealed them with gloss. Oh yeah, it's two foot thick in most places........

  9. Hope he was finished eating, her mistake was she should have ran away fast after removing the can. Nothing smell like a skunk, you know it bad when you pass a dead one on the highway going 70 mph and the smell still sticks in the car a minute it's pretty bad.

  21. My next door neighbor's mailbox has passed on. A picture of it in its prime (from Google Maps). The picture doesn't do it justice: and the latest picture of its passing: A neighbor driving a small SUV took it out as she rounded the corner at 1:20 PM today. I heard it while demastering the latest Norah Jones CD Daybreaks: it sounded like something really big had fallen in the garage. I walked out to make sure that the person was okay (she was). She got back into her SUV, turned around, and drove back home--after collecting her front grill from the lawn, and I suppose leaving a note on the front door. I liked that mailbox. It was like a friend for the past 18 years. I feel a strange sense of loss in its passing. C'est la vie. I'm playing Barber's Adagio for Strings by Leonard Bernstein and the L.A. Philharmonic in memory of its passing. Chris

  23. Saw your post earlier and did not have time to reply. We share some similarities in that I too moved to 'smallville' from So. Cal. I feel a similar nostalgic 'tug' when I view the olde haunts, etc on media. The key is to remind yourself of the new adventure you're on............... the one you chose or was chosen for you. You are not stagnant. You are relevant where ever you are. You have assets to offer others and they to you. Calif................ well you lived there for sometime and you can go back and visit. But keep your perspective........... the bigger perspective. YOU are in control of YOU............. so relax and enjoy the new rides, the new places and new (and often strange/quaint) peoples. There is only one place I want to revisit in So Cal.............. the beaches in Venice and Santa Monica. The rest is traffic and smog and HORDES of people. Now I have truly blue skies, watch osprey hunt out my back window and I've met some real characters. Life's good everywhere. Really.

  24. Part 2 of car wash saga. Washed and dried the Volvo but then decided to try the clay bar treatment again. Not having clay bar lube I tried Carl's suggestion and tried soap and water. I had a Dawn bottle nearly empty so filled it with water and shook it up. Working small areas and wetting the car surface and clay bar it went well. One downside is the bar is very slippery and if it hits the ground instructions say to toss it. Now I feel safe enough to use it on the S2000. While I was wet and dirty I gave the Jakemiester another bath and brought him into the AC to dry and chill. And you guys think I don't know how to have fun

  25. I took a few of my youth up to Alabama to visit Wakejunkie where we went wakeboarding, tubing and cliff jumping. Most of the youth had never wake boarded before. My son has been many times and is learning to catch some good air across the wake. His dad...not so much height but I can jump from wake to wake. This was my first experience trying to follow a boat with my drone at 24mph but overall, I think it turned out very well. And the girl that jumped off the cliff panicked 1/2 way down. She was ok but the back of her leg had a bruise the size of a small watermelon. Fortunately she was 18yrs old so momma couldn't get mad at me LOL. I don't know why the video is pixelated during parts of the video. All of the footage is 1080p, edited in Davinci Resolve and exported at 1080p. Oh well, hope you enjoy.

  29. Good morning / good evening FR..... Ok on the KT series tubes , these Dynaco (MK3) monoblocks came with the OEM factory installed Genelex 'Gold Lion' 88's.... and dated 11-8-1965 ... Finally had them tested last week, and they are all GOOD, so I am going to put them up on eBay.. I replaced them with NEW SENSOR Gold Lion replicas.. I got 6 great years out of that matched quad. Reading up on the character of various brands, I decided to try the Electro Harmonix which was said to have a warmer sound... So, I bought a matched quad a few years ago, and they have been wonderful... Not sure why, but they have the MOST blue glow out of all 3 versions as you can see from last night listening session ... Nick, I take it by the shape those are the 'other' model of output tubes ? Thanks for sharing a nice photo - blue lighting in the room ? I should be playing some vinyl tonight, so I will come by and visit ... see you then

  37. Girl scout cookies. Ok not really, let's just say when russia invaded afghanistan the little blackish green oval plates that weighed 28.6 grams originally made from weed stopped arriving. And back them mostly anything from the acapulco area that was gold in color and named the same and some of the best around was usually sold in kilos unless you knew someone who would break it down into lbs. This was a very long time ago, late 70's, I'm completely innocent now, well less stupid anyway.

  39. It's dead easy: 1:1.6. To be more precise, it's 1.61, or 1.609, depending on how exact you feel at the time. 100 mph equals 161 km/hr (kph is not used). At more typical speeds, 50 mph = 80 km/hr, 55 mph = 90 km/hr, 30 mph = 50 km/hr. Two of those are off by 1 mph or so, but are close enough for normal use. With the higher speeds some vehicles go these days, 240 km/hr = 149 mph, and 320 km/hr = 200 mph. Going 210 (130) in a 60 (35) zone is a bad idea, especially when you get caught by the same cop who caught you speeding a few months before. This 22-year-old's Ferrari was impounded for 60 days and he got a 16-month driving suspension. He really needs to find a better place to speed. http://bc.ctvnews.ca/penalties-expanded-for-ferrari-driver-clocked-at-210-km-h-on-bridge-1.3488362 Cops are really cracking down these days. Now, going faster than the speed limit by more than 49 km/hr (in Ontario) or 60 km/hr (in British Columbia) means more than just a speeding ticket. It gets your vehicle impounded for a week, and this may leave you beside the highway trying to find another way home. Last year, the police set up on Malahat Drive, a mountain pass north of Victoria, on southern Vancouver Island. They pulled over more than a dozen cars, trucks, and motorcycles, all doing more than 60 km/hr (35 mph) over the 90 km/hr (55 mph) speed limit, and had every one towed away to the police impound lot. The Golden Age of Speeding in Canada has been over for a long time.

  40. I deal in thousandths with my job. Overseas thousandths are in microns. When using a dial indicator changes in thousandths don't appear too large. Those same changes in microns look huge on a dial.

  43. Very interesting The metric used to affect speeding in that country state of mind. Thanks and yes, guess they better sort it out. I may be of much use there as I would have a good incentive to learn metric. Fascinating ..Thanks!
