  1. Had the time and peace of mind to mess with my turntable again. Bought this one before Christmas last year.(Geeze I've turned into a slacker...Inconceivable...Unacceptable) Aw hel% it's all good now. I tried a pricey AT150MLX last year that was within the parameters for my tt, it was a fail. Thinking that without VTA adjustment ability on this tt it would not work. This AT440MLb works very good with it. The bass is back on my lps without the dull muffled sound that the former cartridge had. Seems a bit bright, but only got about two or three hours on it now. One of my all time faves and semi-local band with everything sounding great from the analog side of my not even a year old rebuilt system now. Can't call the AT-LP5 half-assed anymore, it's good to go for under five bills.

  3. Don't care for those, or leg tattoos on women. Have to tell what happened about 2 weeks ago while cutting grass. I was cutting on a smooth flat area and I hear a noise from behind me from the finishing mower and I see something on the ground behind me. I stop the tractor and go look and it's one of the blades from the mower. There are three blades on the mower, it's a 6' finishing mower. One blade broke in half and flew out, I pick it up and drive back to the house to check it out. The blade broke and tore off the metal under the mower which directs the air if you're using mulching blades plus bent the deck up where the spindle goes through. The next day I go to move the tractor to start working on repairing it and one of the back tires are flat, come to find out a piece of metal flew out and went through the tire. So I had to bring the tire to get fixed today to move the 1500 pound mower to weld and repair it. Decided to replace all the bearings in the spindles and get new blades while I had it torn apart so it should be like new, but the grass is now about a foot high and rain for a few days. But I was lucky that the piece of metal that went into the tire could have went into me, I probably wouldn't be typing now if that would have happened, it's a very thick industrial tire which is tougher than me. I have never seen a 1/4" thick blade just brake in half before, but it now makes me a little nervous because the tip speed of the blade is over 600 mph.

  9. They make 2 sizes I believe. The A-10 takes the smaller ones. I don't think they're as big as the ones we use here at work but I could be mistaken.

  22. with respect to your first paragraph, the modifications mentioned cost far more than a manufacturer can afford that is the simple truth or they are not worth the improvement to the end user if he has to pay for them by the time the product reaches the market place but that does not mean that they are worthless or not valid. DIY is the end user's opportunity to play catch up and make good the undone things the manufactures simply could not afford to do. "Who really knows?" Everyone who measures these things or who has training and experience listening for such things that's who. Just because someone may not notice or recognize distortions does not mean they do not exist or have an impact upon the sound that they hear. For example large format compression drivers have about half the distortion of small format compression drivers. That is not a subjective statement that is a fact. If someone listens to a comparison of small format drivers Vs large format drivers and does not perceive a difference or simply does not feel the difference is worth the cost that changes nothing. The choice is a choice and the fact remains. With regards to your trial of damping material I think that you may find that Duct Seal is much more effective material than rope caulk due to its higher density and that dynamat is better again (constrained layer damping) and is much much cleaner and easier to use than either rope caulk or duct seal. The more that you experiment the more that you spend time listening for differences the better able you will be able to hear and find the differences and the more that you will ultimately hear in your music. What you are doing is a lot of work effort and money and you are in a territory most audiophiles never enter. Here is a truth that PWK would agree with, if it moves it distorts, the more it moves the more it distorts. Vibration damping when done properly and with the right material can have a most dramatic impact upon the quality of the sound your system can reproduce enhancing clarity detail and dynamics. Give your changes some time so you can adjust to the new. Doing mods which allow for side by side back and forth comparisons is very helpful but they are not always possible or practical. Listening is a skill and like any other skill it will improve with practice. You deserve much credit for being willing to wade into the very deep and dark end of the pool. Your efforts will be rewarded. Keep on and report back I am sure that your accounts have an will motivate many others to do just what you are doing, reaching for more.

No treatment, No external forces in place "Maybe one could see Pure Music as an external force". The above listed sound's Flippin Amazing in my world

  33. To test the speaker wire: Disconnect the wires which run to one surround, at the receiver/amp end. Short the ends together at the speaker end (no speaker connected at the speaker end). Use a voltmeter and measure resistance; it should be very low; less than 5 ohms. As an alternative, you could attach a 9V battery to either end of the leads with jumper wires or something creative, and measure the voltage at the other end. Should be close to 9V DC. That will prove the wiring is sound.

  37. @teaman Do you think seller would offer a discount on ALL 10 units. I have a very large hall that would benefit from these, but would expect a decent volume discount along with an old frugal dude price break as well. $1500 for all of them to relieve the stress of the continuous listing string?

  40. I'd strongly recommend putting something absorptive on the floor next the each Khorn and extending toward the listener by about 1 metre, at least the width of the Khorn. A covering of thick and sound absorptive material across the top of each loudspeaker, sticking out a little in front of the front face of the top hat will help with ceiling bounce. If you can push the Khorns back into their corners, then place a little acoustic absorption on the sides of any object within 1-1.5 metres of the midrange horn mouths (including the side walls), things should sound much better in terms of timbre/tonal balance and imaging. For a trial - a thick blanket, comforter, or quilt will work just fine. How high is your ceiling? After you do these things, you can subtract them sequentially while listening to see which ones are providing the most effectiveness. Chris
