  1. Wow... What's been up with the forum today? I tried to post a few times and it was down. Tried on cell and pc. Got some more pics to post. Veneer on front pieces and one bottom piece. I'm going to work on getting one bass bin finished up and move to the second one afterwards. Veneer has worked out great with the contact cement so i have to believe it has the backing that works like laminate/Formica. Here's what was accomplished this afternoon. Taking some shape. Next step is painting the angled pieces black along with the inner side walls and below the top piece. Then it will be ready to put together. I'm going to wrap the veneer like La Scala II's if I haven't mentioned that. I put a little water on the veneer to give an idea of the grain look. I believe it's gonna look damn good.

  2. I just wanted to say hello and finally introduce myself. My name is Rex and I'm from Fort Wayne, In. I have been reading this forum for a long time just never posted. My father used to be a plant engineer at a company that manufactured speaker cones. This is where I found my love for music and audio. Growing up I was always at music stores playing with receivers and speakers. It also helped he got a good discount on some audio equipment as well. We finally moved into a large house that had a room that was made for 7.1 maybe 7.2 eventually. [emoji23] I went nuts a year or two back and finally bought my dream system at a place called HH Gregg. My other hobbies include cigars and pipe tobacco and I run a local pipe and cigar club locally. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the useful information over the last couple years and to post my picture of me loading up my car the day I bought my Klipsch set-up. I had the salesmen placing bets but I got some free twine.

  3. Thank you, that's exactly what I had in mind. It's kind of fun for me as a hobby and it's just a guide. Your whole post captured my sentiment as well. I remember a forum member who wanted CF-4's. I don't track them but I value a good pair at about $800. He wanted them and they did not come on the market that often in his area so he paid $1500 for his. He was happy to have them. It doesn't matter what I think they are worth, it was a good deal for him because it was what he wanted. A willing Buyer and a willing Seller set the prices. Simple as that.

  4. We had a nice, steady rain here... all day. We needed it, and only had a smattering of wind gusts. I stayed in bed, trying to shake a cold. Wife left Thursday for a trip home to the Philippines for three weeks. Her dad is not doing well but she had planned this in the Spring. I would have gone too, but the new job meant I start over with vacation time.

  6. There, I just liked you. BTW, you're doing OK here - you have a 104% like vs post ratio and I"m at a pathetic 9%. Maybe I'll start a thread just asking members to like me.

  8. Just got a new Nikon D850 and I'm testing the image quality of my old lenses - several of them just don't measure up with the new camera. This is not an especially good photo but I took this in testing my old 58mm f1.2 Noct Nikkor ais (manual) lens. I'm happy to see that my favorite lens still holds it's own.

  11. Keep in mind that JimJimbo's (the ones are pictured in the original thread) have Klipsch K-42 woofers, same as a HIP. I put in some B&C DE-120 tweeters but one could choose to keep K-77's in there (I preferred the extra "sparkle" at the time). So if one were to keep K-77's, they would still be PURE Klipsch, just with the Cornwall B network instead of the one from HIP. In fact, I believe (without proof of measurement of simulation like my original thread, of course), that HIP owners could make HUGE improvements to that box by simply putting foam inside and modifying the HIP network into a Cornwall B with only about $10 worth of Dayton capacitors (the original ones probably need replacement anyhow)!!

  16. Welcome Hoshneer. Cool photo, but that makes me nervous seeing your new speakers dangling by a thread I'm about an hour south of you, if you ever need a truck or a van to haul your gear, let me know.

  17. I agree, I have these in my office with the titanium tweeters and they are a really fun set of speakers. They are very 'open' and kick out a ridiculous amount of bass. I work from home and every Friday afternoon I crank them up at the end of the day and always end up with a mischievous smile on my face. If anyone is into electronic music especially, I would recommend these over almost any other line from Klipsch. GLWS

  21. How do feel when you’re in a less humid place? Do you like it or are you so accustomed to high humidity that low humidity is uncomfortable? That was funny, but high humility is much better.

  22. never asked you ... where did you grow up? I can understand a person that always lived in the mountains or country would not like the city. I’ve always lived either in the city or close to a big city. Currently, i’m the furthest away from a big city than i’ve ever lived before. It’s a three hour drive for me now. I’m not accustomed to not having all of the options that a city offers. I think my problem is that i like too many things. I like the mountains. I like the country. I like the city. I like solitude. I like the lights of the city. Problem is that want them all, so when i’m in the city, i miss the country; when i’m in the country, i miss the city. This experiment has taught me one thing though -- i prefer the country to the mountains.

  23. I thought the same thing, but I'm not on here often enough to know when it is good natured ribbing between comrades or bad form. So I usually stay out of it. Plus it seemed Dave was able to defend himself quite well without me and be a good sport too.

  24. Hey guys, its been a while. Love seeing and reading what everyone is using. Looks like a lot of Mac gear as of late....pretty easy on the eyes. I recently did a room reorganization. Here is the latest incarnation as of a few weeks back. Marty's plexi-working days also inspired me to make a dust cover for my TT. I'll have to get some pix. Sorry but the pre is at the far end. I'm sure everyone knows what it is.

  25. I scored a very nice 9090db a while back (Willand was very kind to deliver it to me) and it's pretty much sat since February. Lots of stuff going on so time has been scarce. I bought a new pair of LSII's to go with it but they turned out to be too big so they're staying downstairs. A few weeks ago we took the Palladiums up. They fit perfectly. Then needed a stand so had to wait for that. Got that and hooked it up this weekend. Using a Pioneer PL 530 turntable and a Toshiba HD-A2 for CDs I was able to finally see how the receiver and speakers played together. The result can only be described as astonishing. I was going to use a Martin Logan Depth sub but it is totally not needed. I have never heard bass from these speakers as I have with this receiver and in this room. Very intense with everything from Nina Simone to Black Eyed Peas to The Beatles. Even some heavy bass type hip hop (just for testing purposes ). I'm very impressed with this combination. It is clearly my favorite at this time. Thanks again Willand for helping me out with the receiver.

  26. I second that! I have only had my 1982 Klipschorns for a little over 2 years and have been to several "High End" Audio shops in Phoenix etc. over that same time and have heard $80,000 speakers with mega Mc gear, when we get home and turn on our simple/humble MC30's, C22 reissue and the Klipschorns, there is nothing we are missing...Matter of fact it sounds better that what we heard. Just my ears & opinion.

  32. My main experience is with car audio. I was an installer for some years. 12s are definitely harder hitting than a single 15. The smaller sub will react quicker to fast bass notes. With 12s you'll be able to differentiate between quick bass notes, while 15s will rumble the bass notes. SPL wise, which many customers seek, I think 12s are harder hitting. I have heard systems utilizing 48 4" woofers (extremely quick bass notes), multiple tens, 12s, 15s, 18s, and larger, but 12s seemingly are the most well rounded size. The larger the woofer the more lazy sounding the bass notes. Less distinction is heard. I would love to hear what others think. But I tend to believe you should go for overall surface area. The area of 2 12" woofers is greater than a single 15" woofer. There should be no question as to which is going to produce more sound with quicker bass notes.

  38. Welcome I wouldn't if anything I would have tried to talk you into the Forte lll. Good choice, if there was room for a 3'rd Flll that would be my first choice just for perfectly matching sound, but if space may be a problem ? I don't see where that would be a problem, as long as you didn't pick one of the Forte styles that the Heresy does not come in. That's exactly what I was going to recommend, contacting Cory, he can help you with making sure all the finishes are the same.

  41. I find your spreadsheet useful if utilized as intended, to be a guide. Anything being sold is of a certain value only to the person buying. This is subjective to location, need, and the value of a dollar to the purchaser. Many here have vast differences in disposable income. Use the spread sheet as a reference, but don't be afraid to over pay (a little). Belles don't come up as often as others do. If you go an extra year or two looking for the best possible deal, you have deprived yourself of some great listening experiences. I slightly overpaid for my first set of Belles and don't regret it. I got a much better deal on my second pair simply due to the considerably lessened urgency based on the fact that I already had a set.

  42. I see all kinds, great deals, and other speakers in a person's area. We used to have a couple of guys who would produce lists of speakers from CL all over the country. These are for sale in TX. Klipsch always seems to go for a premium in Texas more than any other place I've seen. The $2500 is $800 above my spreadsheet avg of $1762 for Belles but for Texas this might be a good deal.

  44. I think that should've been the Cherry finish they stuck with instead of the new. I would almost think there's a lot of the new Cherry sitting in the barn....but I could be wrong. Maybe people tolerate it just to get them....or it happens to match their decor with no other Cherry finished furniture in the room. But that's just me.

  46. i’m SUPER uncomfortable around people i don’t know yet. You’d laugh if you heard my very first conversation with Brian May. I remember telling myself, “Shake his hand and walk away, you’re too stupid to talk to him.” I’m not going to tell you, my greatest humiliation story. It involves a chance meeting with a successful and very beautiful actress of both movies and television, and me deciding within 30 seconds of meeting her, that i would tell this detailed, serious story. The introduction and initial small talk went great; but, then i decided to tell this serious story. Since I’m uncomfortable when i first meet people, this wasn’t the best decision that i’ve ever made. I tell the story; but, leave out some very pertinent details. Those details WERE the story, and left out made it sound really stupid and totally didn’t present the message of the story at all. In fact, it probably left her thinking the meaning of the story was something completely different. I learnt that day, to keep it simple at first--save the heavy stuff for after you’re already friends. To do that, i generally try to be funny instead; but, that can backfire too. Like the time I made a joke about having a hook for a hand and the person i was talking to gets upset. “My dad had his arm amputated and all i remember as a kid was this hook coming at me.” i do know a lot of people; but, close friends ... sadly can probably count them on one hand. I take the blame for that -- I don’t put myself out there anymore. My social anxiety can get pretty heavy and I tend to use avoidance instead of dealing with it head-on. I’m on year two of promising to be more social -- haven’t been very successful. I was talking to this gal the other day, i met a couple of months ago and we run into each other fairly often, I finally had to admit that i really didn’t know her name. Can’t a guy forget? Yeah, i’m a social hurricane it seems.
