Just had to share this build. I started it at the beginning of the year with the horn build and ended up with a sealed dual 15 low end. I threw out the smaller dual 12 ported cab I started because I knew where my heart was. This set up is a complete hodge podge set up of parts I had but it does sound damn good to my ears just a little lacking at the very high end 14k on up its like 6db down next post graph will show. Eminence 4015lf definmax K55m mated to a 2in horn yuchi a290 no fins never got that far. Crites tweeter apt50 Alk es500 and es4500 All processed through dbx venu360 into evq66 amp. Full right side weighs in at 306lbs the cab alone is approx 200. The cab is a solid dual layer 13ply baltic birch. Inside is also 1.5in egg crate foam lined and 2.5in on the back panel. The cab is covered in formic a 9012-nt ebony naturelle.3 points

I don't have 2K cash on hand, we reached an agreement and I will be picking them up when the banks are open. OP, you can mark these as BOUGHT Mark3 points

Sure they are not the same by any stretch but, ran into a batch in certain times of year at the coast here. Alligator Point and St. George Island. Yes, they are real fun at a picnic. Ran into some large black biting nats in South Georgia once. I worked fast and was gone. Can only imagine the northern variety of black flies, or other insects from region, make these look like a day at the park. from what I have heard from Maine friends.3 points

Black flies are a real problem in Northern Michigan. It always puzzles me how you instantly get attacked by mosquitoes, black flies, etc. in the middle of nowhere. What were they doing to bide their time until warm blooded humans appear on the menu? I don’t think they can play cards.3 points

All these Belle Klipsch speakers and the Luxman and McIntosh equipment look really nice. It is good to read everyone's thoughts on their audio adventures, and experiences with different components and parts.3 points

Got to just love that orange label, that I represent in yellow-ish. Takes a lot of time to master this skill-set.2 points

Went to a min-storage where some of my stuff is to show an Aristocrat while looking for an lp for a member here. I have good news and I have bad news. Sold the Aristocrat and did not sell the Acousti-Craft mono speaker. The bad news is, I sold the Aristocrat, and the good news is, I still have a mono type speaker.2 points

I just submitted for samples online, then a rep called to ask about how much i needed. that is when she told me only 100 ml sample bottles would be sent. I convinced her to send at least 2 liters for what I needed for my "prototype". It's great you have someone on the inside. All my professional contacts over my career were at Cytec's labs for explosivity testing. Wish they had been in sales! Cytec was always a competitor to me when I was in the polyacrylamide business, which they sold to BASF several years ago. Hoard that SN!!!2 points

FWIW, Apalachicola seafood festival has a repeat defender(offender) of oyster eating contest. Same dude I spoke about last year. Think if he has a choice he would prefer a sack or two of Apalach oysters over an award. Good morning, and having a cup, and thinking about cabling.2 points

As expected, they sound pretty good, even with the KP-2.0A networks. The source was Pono player feeding hi-res files to a lowly battery powered TDA7297 chip amp (on the table). Please overlook the mess in my basement. I was eager to test them. It will be interesting to see how much they can improve with custom networks and when powered by TPA3118 "Wiener" or TPA3255 EVM. Applying Duratex in a basement under artificial light is less than ideal. Next spring I'll correct some flaws in the finish when the weather warms up enough to paint outside in the daylight.2 points

Why don't we do this as a time share? I'll fund 1/12 and then once a year I get to stay at your house for a month to listen to them. Is that a great idea, or what?2 points

Didn't get a lot done today like I'd planned. Had to go to inlaws house for a few hours so that jacked the day up. Got the 6 veneer pieces cut for the tops and sides so I went ahead and veneered the tops. Turned out quite good. It was hard to get a decent picture of both of them done under florescent lighting but here's one. Tried to take one with both but it was too light. Maybe I can work on them tomorrow.2 points

I didn't mean to "jump on people who make such comments." In a way, I was agreeing with jimjimbo that "everyone has opinions on capacitors," and that these opinions range to those who think that the type of cap is no big deal, like PWK, at least at the time he wrote the "whisky bottle" article, with his usual sense of humor. I also acknowledged that not only might there be longevity issues, but there may be "real audible differences even when new." I used the phrase "for all I know," to indicate that I did not have strong opinions about caps. My main purpose was to underscore that there is a wide range of opinion, one end of the continuum being exemplified by PWK's humorous paper. Since becoming more resistive with age seems to be something frequently written about, I would certainly replace the caps if I were the OP, especially since the OPs Belles are so old. I apologize if I wasn't writing up to capacity; perhaps I'm getting more resistive with age.2 points

I do. I’ve considered putting together a quiz for those requesting Cyastat SN. In addition to proof of a charitable donation, you would need a passing score on an open book quiz demonstrating familiarity with Reg Williamson’s TAA articles and the two main threads. In addition to parting with some Cyastat SN, it costs me ~$5/shipment to send this to those deemed worthy. In other words, I lose money each time, but make it up on the volume.1 point

Great writing, poor guy has to part with his new speakers. I don't know what he will replace them with that doesn't take up more space and sounds as good.1 point

My guess is yes. IMO, PSU’s return to relevance so quickly, after Jerry got a little behind in his work, is nothing short of remarkable. Seems to me that PSU and Nebraska are still somewhat stunned by their failure to dominate the B1G conference. Some programs, as well as their fans, just can’t accept the fact that games today are on FOX, ESPN, ABC, CBS, BTN, etc. and not . . .1 point

I agree, the T-5000's are a sleeper value wise - they have the same drivers as the Forte I but in a bigger box. May try building a set of Forte I xo's to see how they sound. Curious if you have gone into your enclosures yet? Compared to the inside of my Forte II's they look to share all the same reinforcements & wood thickness.1 point

I picked up a pair of Forte I's for $450 this afternoon! They sound great. I am very impressed--loving them so far. Thanks to everyone who informed my decision. Have a great day, all!1 point

Been busy of late but finally got back on task. Finish building one xo off of the schematic, wanted to have it look real nice but too many goof ups and cruddy soldiering killed that. But none the less it will be functional. Did add a resistor at the tweeter and wired for bi-amp should the desire struck. Will be building the second one and maybe we can have a better looking version.1 point

I have an Ortofon 2M Red in my MusicHall ... pretty good Of course you can spend 5-20x as much and get slightly better sound I am not a devoted "spinner" ... maybe a couple of records per month ... so it would be great to me. Those TT's usually go for $300+ used, so it is a good buy. Unless you want to spend a couple of grand. Cheers, Emile1 point

The miracles continue. Just de-skinned a treasure. 1965 Jazz Heritage Society recording of Thomas Jefferson and Armand Hugs. If you don't know those names you are sorely missing perhaps the equal of Louis Armstrong (Thomas and Louis learned on the same horn) and one of the greatest jazz pianists ever out of New Orleans. I picked this up at an estate sale maybe 10 years ago. It was reasonable condition, but still a number of crackles and pops. It isn't noise free now as there were a few actual scratches...but is massively improved and mostly silent. Seems there is a bit of overall clarity improvement as well. I have 2.5 sides coated today and that pretty well used my supply. Ron (Lonelobo) is interested in getting the stuff and cooking up a joint batch together. One to be unveiled tomorrow is my original DSOTM. Been through a lot of pot parties and I am looking forward to seeing how much tar this removes. This stuff isn't just good, it's crazy good and magical. Dave1 point
