  1. In early discussions with Bob Latino's (ST-70 fame) partner Roy about doing some upgrades to my ancient Quicksilver Full Function preamp. Will be sending the manual and layout for him to consider and make proposals. I have had the chance to A-B it with the JM Blueberry Extreme and it holds it own but time and technology moves on and I'm hoping Roy can really hot rod it. Will keep you posted.

  7. Ok I have to say something here, Florida drivers are crazy, and the further South you go the worse the drivers get. Had the last 2 weeks to see it in person, I'm surprised more Nascar drivers are not from your state. Three lanes, the right is someone going 45 mph, were in the center at 75 and people are blowing by us in the fast lane. This is not even counting the ones who love to weave between all three at high speeds. It took a while to get use to.

Let me see if I've got this right In order to achieve proper serum caffeine levels the following protocols should be observed: -Beans to be grown in the mountains of Central or South America. -Arabica beans only, no Robusto. -Said beans to be picked by Juan Valdez, accept no substitutes. -Beans to be vetted by el Exigente, sun dried and fermented. -Roasted and vacuum packed near to the point of use. -Ground milliseconds before use inna mill with tungsten carbide burrs (titanium nitride acceptable in a pinch) -Tamped into the brew basket with 30 PSI pressure (RonCo Tamp-O-Matic) -Brewed using pressures between 8.2 and 9 atmospheres. I have just one question: Does the DynaMat go on the boiler, the brew basket or the cup?

  20. I had one and sold it. Didn't have any complaints but I didn't need to have two preamps. The phono stage was just a bit better in the BBX and I could get more money for it. We have the same question regarding music/gear. I guess after all these years I'm comfortable saying the source (tape, CD, LP) is the most important component followed by the speaker. Upstream from that is less important imo. But it all keeps us searching/shopping. I'm hoping Roy can do something special with the 20 year old QS and get it up to snuff.

  21. And you say you have a BBX? So do I, its pretty tough to beat IMO. I know over the years there was a falling out with Mark and most of the community here. Still it is a pretty sweet sounding Pre. Anything you don't like about the BBX or is it just time to change things up and scratch that New/Different/Upgrade/Sideways-grade itch. I totally get it. I'm never quite sure if it is the actual music or the quest for the perfect sound. I find in other hobbies like beer brewing I'm the same way. I've brewed for 20+ years but don't think my brewing system has stayed the same for 5 consecutive batches.

  27. I would suggest an intergrated without a built in phono stage. the yaquin phono stage with vintage telefunken or siemens tubes is way better than any phono stage you’ll get built into any amp under $5000. to pair nicely with your speakers I’d recommend NOT going with set amp. tube amps don’t need tone controls, that’s what changing tubes does. do try to find one that can switch between triode & ultralinear. many nice amps get you started without breaking the bank. examples to look at grant fidelity, jolida, yaqin, musical paradise, other guys in the tubes section could likely suggest a few more too

I was jokingly putting a value of 100$ on them... and 200$ is an increase of 100% in value which I was trying to illustrate the historical significance of them had they turned out to be horizontal la scalas. As a collector, I would love to own them and I WOULD NOT change one thing about them... specially the finish. Having these rare items in the hands of private collectors is a good thing, having them in the museum is a great thing

  34. Only if formulated to superconduct at near room temperatures. If a cryogenic pump is needed to achieve process temps, the aromatics in the beans may crystallize and degrade. And at those process pressures (single digit micro-torr; +/- .003 Newton/hectares), outgassing is sure to occur, diminishing the final product.
