  2. Hello everyone.....have read through the posts over this past page with some sadness for Mark and with reading other's stories... It is a hoot that my dad is STILL acting like he is in his 60ies ! Still loves fast cars, drives his Merc. Marquis with the performace 4.6 v8 a little TOO fast for my taste, as I get SKYPE reports from him each weekend... He is continuing to chop cords of wood for the stove with his splitter, golfs a few times a week etc. (North Carolina as you may remember) and only on ONE med.... He will be 90 this April ! I am very fortunate to take after him - I am now 65 and still take NO meds what so ever and manage to weigh only 5 lbs. more then I did when in high school all those many years ago.....Still amazed by this ! ) With that, my best wishes for ALL our forum friends and their family good health in the new and coming years ahead, with .... ............Gary

  4. Crappy day all around...rain, cold and a septic tank pump out. Our street, for whatever reason, has no city sewage so just our street has aerobic septic systems. I have been using chlorine tablets (expensive little buggers) so I am having a liquid chlorine system installed. It takes about $20 a month for the tablets and I will be going to about $2 / month cheap Sam Club bleach and a lot less hassle. Should have done this 4 years ago when I bought the place. I see my new tubes have been delivered to the front porch.

  5. My father was 94 when he passed. I remember him saying multiple times how tired he was. The last year of his life saw several hospital stays. All he wanted to do was get out of there and I can't say I blame him. One stay a Dr. told us he was "circling the drain". We had her removed from his care and he ended up going home with us a few days after that. Another hospice stay he was in a coma for 3 days, woke up, asked for a Pepsi and 3 days later went home with us again.

  6. Sorry to hear about this Mark, there is nothing anyone can do, which is the hard part. Like you said the best that could happen is she goes in her sleep, went through this with both of my parents. I watched my mother during the day for her last few years, my sister took her home at night unless she had somewhere to go. I took her to all of her doctors appointments and wound care, I say all of this because it became obvious at the end that she just became really tired of being worn out from all of it. People fight for as long as they can but it wears them down over time, all you can do is the best you can to make her comfortable. You never want to see the end but in some ways it's a relief when there is no chance to improve and they can rest. Good luck

  7. I had a tough time trying to figure out what to send...I was going to send a new reissue jazz album....and with all the time on spend on rtm...only one joins me with a genesis play...only....or mossy with misplaced childhood... I'm debating on vinyl or the shrine show....the shrine is my favorite... when it was released....it shows the power of the band...as intended !

  8. I can do that if you like Not sure how it will work without some slow time & critical listening of both albums So I suggest a comparison session of the 2 pressings on another day and time, perhaps early in the New Year

  11. Thanks Carl, No it's not easy..... but it's out of my control.... all I can do is be there for Dawn and do what needs to be done! Dawn is one tough woman!! But under that tough shell she's mush. The other day Dawn was talking to one of her dads closest friends.... keeping her posted on things. Well she told Dawn how much Dad loved and admired me, she went on and on... it really brought tears to my eyes. Over years of owning the shop Dawn's dad would pull me aside every so often and ask me "how ya doing for money?? do ya need any?" I would always chuckle and tell him were good Dad thank you. With out the help of Dawn's Mom and Dad we would not be were we are today..... No shop and No house that we live in. I am for ever grateful. MKP :-)

  12. That's awesome Gary.... My dad will be 78 in Jan and he's a little "spark plug" He looks no where close to his age. He works out a minimum an hour a day!! and works out hard! Up until a couple years back he was training self defense with me. He stopped training cuz of his arthritis in his wrists. It hurt too much to hit the heavy bags and pads........ and he didn't stop motorcycle racing (road racing) till his later 60's. He stopped racing cuz my mom would freak out when he went. Even though he raced in a vintage class at those speeds if ya come off you ya might not ever be right again!! Quick story..... At the end of this year we had a Halloween party at the house. Had a big disk fire in the back yard. We had our grandkidas there and a bunch of other kids...... all kinds of people (I still gotta put some pics up for you guys) So a bunch of us are around the fire just BSing..... my dad was hanging out with us there...... so there was young lady there, she was a friend of my eldest daughter and we knew this young lady from the pre-school that we took our granddaughter to years back. Well during my talking with my dad she hears me say "dad" She interrupts our conversation and says...... Hold up Mark...... this is your dad? I said yea. NO WAY she says..... again I'm like yea that's my dad.... she turns to him and says you look incredible!! She kept looking at him shaking her head in disbelief...... again she says YOUR MARKS DAD???? My dad's like yup he's my son...... again she's saying no way no way. A few other people chimed in and said "yea that's Marks dad" So a few minutes go buy and I can tell she still can't believe that it's my dad..... and by this time we were laughing and my dad has this smile on his face...... a few more minutes goes by and she walks up to my dad and says " I'm sorry but I have got to ask........ how old are you?" My dad answers with.... I'll be 78 in January..... again she is in disbelief..... and all I can say is I hope I got a lot of those genes MKP :-)

  13. Nice here today, 52 and sunny, 19 for the low Monday night, coldest we have been this year, maby the coldest for the whole winter? They are putting out warnings for the cold, and if one flake falls everything will be shut down. Just wanted to give the people up North a laugh.

  14. Four RF-7'S in my room would do 115db. When I had four KLF-30'S in there they could hit a little over 120db but I've never checked with just two. For years the only way I listened was to rip the knob off. For the last few years I normally listen at 70-75db. Every once in a while I'll let it rip and I find loud volumes are addicting to me. It ruins me for low-medium volumes though. It just seems lame at first. Low medium volumes have become much more satisfying once I get used to them. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

  16. there was a contest at local club.. with a genesis tribute band over the garden wall...where any one looks most likely to be one of the band members of genesis.... we made the box head or magog the Peter would wear during suppers ready... there were no rules on how or who would do the judging . my friend did not wear it into the show...so we where hoping that there would be a group of the audience pick the winner... they picked the winner when you walked in...someone looked like Phil Collins...and won a limo ride and 4 tickets.... when they made the announcement that the Phil look alike won...and walked him around the club.... as he walked by me...I wacked him in the head.... So when the played the musical box.. and at the end of the song where Peter or lead singer . would lay down on the stage....I was screaming my lungs out at him....in his face.. you should of seen the fear in is face...

  24. Yessss I was thinking about those days last night as was bringing fire wood inside. I lasted about 20 minutes before I couldn't take it any more.... My nine fingers were freezing weather man says might be getting some snow next week???? We have gotten off real light this year so far..... Might be time to pay for it Yup another COLD one for sure........ was getting pics all day yesterday from our eldest daughter, she's down in Florida at Disney with our two grandkids. Pics of them in shorts and tank tops on water rides. Holding the shop down without The BOSS again..... She's at moms till our daughter gets back... She's been a little upset the last several days. All mom really does now is sleep..... very very week. over the last few months she has not been swallowing her food very well. takes forever to eat a Eggo waffle. Even drinking has become an issue. We don't think she will make it another year. This Jan will be two years since The BOSS's Dad past...... We pray that she will go in her sleep and not suffer, as the later stages come she will stop swallowing all together. Both of my in laws have/had "do not resuscitate" and no "feeding tube" orders. OK..... time do do some work and make some $$$$$ so I can pay some bills A good day to all... MKP :-)

  32. When you first replied in June of 2013 Dean, you said you were feeling tired and would reply "tomorrow." It's four and a half years later and you are just now replying? I hope you got some rest and are feeling better. +++ Congrats on the Khorns @Tony T. Be sure and listen to them with the stock XO's for a month or so before you replace the old Type AA's, see how you like them. I had some Khorns (now gone) from the same year and they sounded outstanding with the stock AA's, which I replaced with A/4500's and some upgraded tweeters, which also sounded outstanding.

  33. Bob will sell you crossovers that sound like new but original crossovers. He also has the A4500 (?) which lowers the crossover to the tweeter and helps out the K400 mid horn. That requires new tweeters but is worth it IMO. Others such as Dean sell improvements on the old designs. Lots of ways to go about this. Bob is the easiest, and does a nice job.

  34. rs I have a "hot rodded" Belle Klipsch center with a rebuilt top hat and a k401 horn (with the K55X driver and some of the horn extending out of the back). About 1 in 20 soundtracks have muddy dialogue, especially with cockney accents, or other non-mainline British accents. Trainspotting was nearly impossible to understand. We have taken to running the Belle 2 dB hot, which helps but doesn't always cure. Audyssey Flat (which, compared to Audyssey Reference, has 2 dB more SPL at about 2K Hz, and another 2 dB at 10K, and +6 dB at 20K. Audyssey Flat is better, with clearer dialogue than with Audyssey turned off, in our room. In our case, room correction (Audyssey Flat) helps. A great deal depends on the room. I still think the soundtracks themselves are the problem. One out of twenty isn't bad, but it should be 0 out of twenty. A decent cure might be turning up the midrange, say, from about 1K to 8K. Unfortunately, there is not a way to do that on most AVRs and pre/pros. Perhaps that is what willand's [is it Bill?] NAD is doing. [Almost] always liked NAD! @Niterox, do you have graphic EQ on your Yamaha for the center channel? To use it you might have to sacrifice the auto-room EQ, so it would be best to empirically compare the two. If you have the graphic, you might try turning up those frequencies between 1K and 8K. One of the very old "presence" controls might do the trick. They were generally bad for music, but now that we have Home Theater, there might be a place for them. Paul W. Klipsch disliked them. He suggested adding "absence" controls.

  35. I blame my 52 year old ears, most of the time. A lot of movies have the dialog low, then over-the-top noise and camera shaking in the action scenes..... I have hated it for years. You have all you need. A- get your Forte II out and dial them in. Use your ears to tune them to an enjoyable level. They love to be looked at, heard and enjoyed for what they are...they are special. Second, do the same as A to your wife.

  36. Speaking of the speaker's functionality I noticed another thing: the terminal board, very nice, however, presents the risk of short-circuiting the power amplifiers and that the clamps remain damaged due to an accidental collision (Murphy's law). On Heresy III they were insulated because they were plastic and protected against collisions because they remained inside the pan. And also for the passive radiator a grid protection would be necessary.Enough with criticism: the sound is incredible!

  40. Don't blame the speakers blame the recording and mixing engineers. I have the same issues and I have a hot rodded La Scala center with 200 watts feeding it and six other big Klipsch Heritage speakers. Not all soundtracks are like this but a good number are.

  44. The midbass horn I got designed would have to be deeper if it were to go lower. I didn't want to do that because: 1. The depth it requires. 2. I believe crossing over higher is really a better option in terms of quality. Both related to frequency response and distortion, a separate bass solution will perform better. And as a side-not; contrary to what many audiophiles believe, there's no reason to run stereo below these frequencies. If we use the acoustic roll-over of the horn in the filter, around 90 Hz is about the lowest it can be crossed. I personally don't think a dual solution is a very good option for something crossed over in the 450-600 Hz area. The drivers will not sum very well and create phase issues in what I consider to be a critical range. So if you desire to extend lower, I would simply increase the depth of the horn with a single driver. A simple straight horn will not minimize the floor bounce as the horn I have, and probably not have an equal uniform polar either but it will still work well.

  45. The whole why of it is what interests me. I love the physics of it. If you think about it, it is quite remarkable that speakers were even invented and that we can replicate sound with them.

  46. Khorns love tubes. Right now in this Forum's Garage Sale section are two great choices. A fully restored Scott 299a and for a bit above your budget, a Blueberry Extreme. Both would work great with your system, and you could pick up a standard receiver down the road for movies etc. Just so you know NosValves, who did the restoration on the Scott is one of finest technicians around and a master of the 60's era Scott line of amps.

  47. I would have to recommend getting a stereo receiver (or separates) for your khorns over getting an AVR (audio video receiver). I have a higher end denon AVR hooked up to an external 100 watt per channel amp and my khorns sounded lifeless. With a simple stereo receiver, they are full of life.
