  3. It all depends on WHEN the speakers were made. Early on, Heresys, Cornwall, LaScala, and Klipschorn speakers were made out of marine-grade fir plywood, if they were "decorators". But the finely-veneered speakers used poplar lumber core plywood, the same stuff used in most large panel furniture of the time. Then they went to 7-ply (5 core plys with two veneer plys) custom-made "void-free" birch plywood for the decorator series into the birch raw series of speaker styles. In the latter part of the 1970's Klipsch got a real "deal" on some Baltic birch plywood bundles...in various sizes and thicknesses. They immediately looked for ways to utilize this stuff, and the first thing to get Baltic biirch used in it was the Klipschorn bass bin, where the 1/2" fir marine-grade plywood was replaced with the 9-ply Baltic birch in approximately 1/2" thicknesses. Most of the formerly used 1/2" fir marine grade plywood panels used in the construction of the K-horn bass bin were replaced by this Baltic birch, which stiffened up the bass bin cabinet immensely, in addition to making the job of keeping things "square" in its assembly process a much easier endeavor. Baltic birch plywood's biggest problem from a production point of view is its density and the multiple layers of urea-formaldehyde glue used in it. This causes it to require redesign of some assembly details in order to utilize it. For example(s), staples and finish nail guns are pretty much not gonna be able to penetrate and have to be replaced with other types of fasteners, AND the wear and tear on cutting edges, such as router bits, and saw blades is drastically increased, when using Baltic birch....sometimes to the point of creating more dangerous working conditions, as when the brazed-in edge of an industrial router bit explodes out of the bit in pieces ...or if one of the brazed-in saw teeth comes flying out while using a table saw. So if the construction process goes from using staples and/or finishing nails from pneumatic guns, to having to pre-drill holes in order to use wood screws, then you have increased the production costs in both materiel AND labor hours involved.

  10. Yours are from 1995, so v2. With most speakers this is not a big deal but the CF-x owners look at the v1 as the Holy Grail of the Epic line of speakers. The CF-3 owners just rave about them and they are highly prized on the used market. If you have the v1 the other way to tell is to look at the horn which is more gray than black. For a person with a v2 CF-3 you could replace (or modify) the 2.5" port to 5" and I think there is a minor part on the crossover that needs to changed to retrofit a v2 into a v1. I think if you will just play your speakers you will find they are very dynamic and very lifelike. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I'm sure he would be happy to know they went to his son so when you play them you can think of the pleasure he got from them. Owning a pair of Klipsch is a lot less like owning a speaker and more like being part of a family. If you have any question, any questions at all please feel free to ask them here and the Klipsch community will help. -Dave

  11. Well Guys, I bit the bullet and found a 'used like new' R-S700 for $450, including shipping, and snapped it up. Dad Gum those things are hard to find! Amazon never heard of it, Accessories4Less was out of stock, and Ebay had a grand total on 1 listed so that was it. I am sure it will be worth every penny when coupled with the KB-15s. Thank you both again!

  16. Watching a little of the PBS fund raiser......a program on doo ***. May not be everyone's cup of tea but I was surprised at the current crop of young guys adopting this genre and performing the classics. I can only hope they will add to the music with some song writing. 94 and humid yesterday. Cooler and less humidity headed this way. A friend from high school will be visiting Wednesday. When he was 18 he rebuilt the engine and transmission in my Triumph TR-3.....for free! Parked the car under an old swing set and used a chain/pulleys to jerk the engine. The guy had skills!

  27. Follow up: Got up this morning and drove 30 minutes to the FEDEX warehouse. I explained why I was there and was "buzzed in" at the facility. Showed my tracking info to a nice lady there. She took one look at it and said "oh yeah" we are crazy busy and understaffed". She then called the contractor over the driver that had my package. I talked to this person who assured me the driver was on the way to me with the package. Sure enough after about 30 minutes later I had package in hand and on my way home.

  31. Here's a thread I started almost 4 years ago about a pair of Heresys I found at a flea market and acquired for the princely sum of $25......this is what you can do with a little effort and a little time.....

  32. I would listen to them for a month before doing anything. At that point, you might want to refresh the caps - something that many folks do. Personally, I would not try and re-design the crossover or spend a great deal on fancy caps. There are other solutions. Please wait a month and get used to them. Meanwhile, enjoy them -Tom

  33. I originally bought it for just that purpose. The plan was to stuff in a 3.5 liter Buick/Rover aluminum V8. But after driving it and getting used to it’s bullet-proof reliability, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

  34. So 800.00 for one speaker is still a good deal. But that ad looks sketchy.

  35. I currently have both in my living room, doing an A/B test. Feel free to ask me any questions. Both have sub outs. You should absolutely positively get the Sixes if you’re looking for bass performance without a sub. Their bass performance is on a different level from the R-15PM. The R-15PM are more detailed and airy, coming from their excellent high end. The Sixes are warmer—I wish they were a bit more like the R-15PMs in the high end—but the bass extension on The Sixes extends easily to places the R-15PM just can’t go. There are low frequencies you wouldn’t even know are present in the recording from the R-15PMs, but they sing from the Sixes. Unless you’re doing home theater, you probably won’t need a sub with the sixes. For the R-15PMs to compete in bass, they would need a sub. This is not to knock The Sixes’ detail and high end, which is damn good in its own right—I’m just contrasting with the R-15PMs. My bottom line is this, and this is why I’ll be keeping The Sixes: I can study my music in more detail with the R-15PMs, but I have headphones for that. I can make my house rock with The Sixes.

  37. I have one in decent condition. I purchased a pair of industrial Heresy speakers and they should’ve had four badges in total but only had three. You can have mine and if Teaman sends his to you then you’d have the pair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  38. Passport expired so we needed to get a new pic to mail in with the renewal. Local chain drugstore does them, Walgreens, $30 for us to get the 2 little pics to mail in, thought that was high for a little pic, but it is an "official" passport picture. Next is the cost to renew, this will make the picture seem cheap. Good thing it last 10 years.Told the kid behind the counter something's wrong it's old people in the pics, the 18 year old laughed. ☹️

  40. That will not happen. the Chorus was meant to replace the Cornwall, and the widespread protest brought the Cornwall back and killed the Chorus. BTW, we have to give credit to Gary Gillum for the passive radiator direction taken by Klipsch, starting with the KG line.

  41. I just wanted to say, SORRY!!! My husband passed away and I was informed by a group member to put them on Klipsch group site for this amount and they would sell. Sorry if I offended anyone, I had no idea on value until someone told me. Your group didn't need to be so rude. I'm not from Flint and I'm not a fraud. I guess I picked wrong site. Thought I would get an idea, but nevermind... if you don't like it, please keep comments to yourself...Thanks!
