  1. What's up everyone. Recovering here from a party last night. All my brothers and families descended on me for a reunion of sorts. Had 30 plus pepole over most of the weekend. Of course we had spaghetti, meatballs and brother made Italian sausage.

  2. I've told my story before but will share again. It was 1978 and a buddy & I went into Carlon Audio, Fairfield Ohio. Mosied around like teenager's might do... saw some speakers that totally befuddled me because I coudln't see how they worked...I just saw a panel of wood (Khorns). The salesman (Jeff) played them and I was totally awestruck. Given that I was 18 at the time and heading off to college.... I realized they were not the right fit for me....too expensive....too big... Went into the other room and saw another pair. Pointed at them and said can I hear those?? So he turned on a pair of Heresy's that were about chest height as they were sitting on top of a pair of LaScalas. Again, my buddy & I were awed on the scale of the sound. I did however, wonder why a speaker so large was so anemic with its bass?? You see.... I had pointed at the LaScalas and wanted to hear them. Jeff (the sneaky salesman) knew that but also knew if he played the Heresy's, I (or any sucker customer) would be impressed with them and then floored by the larger speaker) So, while the Heresy was playing but I was thinking it was the LaScala I was listening to.... my state of confusion must have registered on my face because as I turned to ask Jeff why those huge speakers had so little bass.... I noticed that he was getting a good belly laugh at my expense and his face was beet red. He commenced to switch over to the LaScalas and again, we were floored with the sound. We all had a good laugh at my friends and my expense. As my buddy & I were leaving the store, I patted a LaScala on the top and simply muttered "someday"... Within a year I went back and ordered a pair. So today, I have that pair that I ordered & received in 1979. I would have been 19 at the time. I already owned a pair of Electrovoice Interface D's that I bought in 1978 so the LaScalas were adding to my stable. Today, 39 years later, the EV's have been given to my wife's nephew and the LaScalas are buried in my rear wall.

  4. Slept in a bit after a long day on the ocean Saturday. Our group of six, including LF, fished in a near by Spanish Mackerel tournament. We hit some hot spots off Wrightsville Beach and ended up with 41 Spanish and 3 blue fish. Dropped off the fish at the marina and they were cleaned and later fried for dinner for all tournament participants. Beer was consumed........

  6. I think that's a pretty cool challenge. Even if you don't like the parents idea of programming the kid's future they are showing long-term thinking. I had a neighbor who's young daughter ended up being on the Olympic team. She used to get up at 5am everyday and go to the pool for two hours before going to school, then she swam after school. Her dad said he NEVER woke her up to go swim. He said if she wanted to swim that bad she would have to get HIM up to take her.

  7. As an addition the plans can either be the .709 or 18mm Baltic birch thickness or the .75 standard plywood thickness. Contemplating doing these in 25mm Birch also for the outside pieces. I bought a Speakerlab Khorn the other day for the heck of it mainly because I wanted to see how tough it would be to build. Complicated like the plans I have seen for other things. Since I have the space these MWM's are dirt simple by comparison and I figure a good skill saw with a clamped on guide + a good 1/2" router is all one needs to build this.

  11. Absolutely totally agree. Joe Buck should be banned from any golf broadcast, and Curtis Strange is a babbling idiot.

  12. Golf. Some people can't spell. And yeah, when it comes to golf, I think you own me. 😎 I bet I do have one shot you don't. I can hit 200 yards with any iron. That would be 100 yards forward and 100 yards to the right with about a 90 degree slice. I can't hit the ball straight, probably due to the extreme wrist snap of my racquetball swing.

  13. Well not so fast; the instructions were wrong about hardware stack up on the number of washers on each bolt and the darn thing wouldn't light. A call to Rec Tec and customer support ran thru the diagnostics. A re-seat of the ceramic heater cured that and it was good to go. Comes with the company owner's personnel cell number. Holding a steady temp (lazy dude phone app via WiFi)

  15. That's what happens when your not allowed to say swear words out loud. Every golf course should have a small outdoor "Rant house facility" to enter and close the door and scream and holler at the top of your lung capacity, break stuff, bend stuff and then you can calmly return to hit the next ball provided that your not assessed a "Slow time penalty". 16. My late uncle Bob picked up a full Carver rack system with a pair of forte II's when I was 14 or 15? My recently departed aunt picked up a pair of Chorus 1's almost immediately after with a very similar Carver system she liked his so much. I landed my first Klipsch forte II's a few years later when I was 17.

  19. WillyBob... Can't wait to hear the war stories about Tempe tomorrow when the youngest gets the dog back. Said she found a roomie that will work and that's about it other than she really liked Arizona State. Then told me that a former Buckeye who's now an asst AD for football sent her an email welcoming her and rolling out the red carpet... Dad HAD to send him an email dumping her on him... hahaha I think she's gonna survive this after all... Maybe!

  22. I have left some SS amps and other electronics on for years, with no problems. Some electronics (not amplifiers) like DACS are supposed to be left on, and it seems to me that few manufacturers warn against it. However, amplifiers that are heavy current users, like the SS Class A Mark Levinson ML-2, probably should not be left on all the time, and would suffer some wear or decline among some of their innards. That suggests to me that significant heat-producers should not be left on.

  23. I'm sorry, but you leave it on because it looks cool? For real? Solid state does not mean indestructible. Why hasten the process? Not to mention, why take a chance on a failure when you are sleeping or not at home? I don't get it.

  26. Don't water your lawn? If I don't it will be dead in less than a week, this is an irrigated desert. That said we only have about 1000 to 1100 sq ft of lawn. Just enough to pull our cars off the cement and onto the grass for car washing. Don't get me wrong I like grass but paying for the water to keep it up is another thing.

  30. I don't think he will get to 18 but he might have a Masters and Open championship. Golf across the way is completely different, he knows how to play and win over there. Mickelson might have a couple of those left in him, it would be interesting to see them play in the final group, although they seem to get along better now. Mark

  31. One of the kids I teach comes from a well off family. They want me to come up with a 10-12 year plan, because his goal is to play in the Masters. He's 9 YO. Who knows if I'll even be around. He's not the only one, most parents are realizing that soccer, softball, etc. is not as easy to get a free ride to college. They do however are learning that scholarships for girls(women) are going unused. So that explains why 30% of new people coming into the game are women. So should I tell them to start watching video of all the potential courses they might play? Mark

  33. If Jack is humble enough to recognize Tiger's greatness then as a huge Nicklaus fan also, I sure can. I was at The Masters on Sunday in 86 when Jack won his 6th and new I was experiencing a historic sporting moment. If healthy, Tiger can and most likely will win another one at Augusta and maybe even another major. Will he tie Jack with 18, maybe. Bill

  35. If that was the case, wouldn't every player be watching video now? 4K and Hi Def would certainly help today's players. Mr.. Nicklaus IMO is the best player ever, no questions asked. Why weren't you ever a Tiger fan? If you judge players solely on ability, he has to be close to the top. Speaking of Tiger and maybe I should start a new thread, how badly would they have fried him for the same infraction? Oh, and he won at Augusta 4 times. Mark

  36. Fuzzy is Fuzzy, he's great to be around. A lot of the players, especially the Seniors, are. Mr. Maltby told me he lost the check for $60K for winning a tournament. Not the big presentation check , the one you cash he was so hammered on Tanqueray. Tiger changed all of that, now you win 1M+, it changed the game Mark
