  1. Already posted this over on Audiokarma, so apologies to members of both, but I figured it was time to join this forum as well. Thanks to the one and only Edroom and his annual audio yard sale I was able to purchase these beautiful giants yesterday. These are my first "big" set of speakers and they already sound fantastic even with the original capacitors in the crossovers. Even had the energy to stop at Home Depot on my way home for some pipe insulation to seal 'em to the walls. The details: 1972 Klipschorn Model B's "M75" Mahogany finish, NOT lacquered AA crossovers I absolutely, 100% recommend buying from Ed if you ever have the chance. Nice guy, fair prices, and an impressive collection.

  3. At the risk of offending someone... I would go big, or go home. If that is an option. There is no replacement for displacement. You may not ever turn the volume past 9 o’clock, but the woofers will know what to do with the extra horsepower. Tight and deep. I have owned half a dozen lesser NAD amps over the years. NONE of them sounded as good as the one(s) I kept. Currently running a C372 at 150 watts a side. I used to have a couple of them bridged. Got a “tester” amp, a Harman Kardon Citation 22 at 200 watts a side. At about the 50 watt LED it pounds! My Heresy II’s sound even better on it! Leaking caps and all...I can smell them as I type this! Lol

  7. They're checking... I think they may have gotten several sets in house and not realized that they were matched pairs. I am assured by more than one person at adorama that they are checking with the warehouse and they will let me know. If go some ungodly reason they can only sell mismatched pairs, I may be okay with that provided a discount is given.

  8. They don't sound like refrigerators. That's a key point: using your ears first (and foremost)...instead of your eyes. It works out better in the long haul.

  9. No way I'd keep them even with a deep discount. Free????? Sure but I wouldn't pay for damaged brand new speakers.

  10. Return unless you plan to keep forever. I woild be concerned about the severe decline in resale value should you ever decide to upgrade or downsize... They can special order another pair. Otherwise that would need to be a DEEP discount. Just my 2 cents.

  13. They wished they had my hot sauce for it though. It's time for Oldtimer's hot sauce special editions. First up is Solstice Scream, a blend of habanero and Trinidad scorpions. This is a very simple pure chile head sauce, strained and sold in 3 ounce bottles for $5 each. Made with Druidic incantations on the summer solstice. 3 ounce bottles, TSA approved for all of your travel needs. Next is Mordor Mud, a pure chocolate habanero sauce. Nothing chocolate about the flavor, just the color. Same 3 ounce size and strained, no chunks. Stolen from Mordor itself by brave little Hobbits who brought the ill gotten gains to me in the middle of the night. Limited quantities so put your orders in soon. The Mordor Mud has a quite unique flavor...

  15. The size of the that little Heresy box was based on significant research. Apparently it was the largest box where 2 complete units could be made out of a single 4x8' sheet of plywood Hey, there's that efficiency thing again. No wasted wood.

  18. Yesterday I finally pulled the trigger on a pair of Heresy III's, and now I am in search of a good stereo amp to drive them. I think I have it narrowed down to the NAD C368 and its big brother the NAD C388... NAD C368: 80 Watts RMS per channel Total Harmonic Distortion 0.03% NAD C388: 150 Watts RMS per channel Total Harmonic Distortion 0.009% In all other respects (other than physical size and price), the two amps are identical. I live in a small condominium, and have no need (or desire) to play music at high volumes. I am interested in sound quality at low to moderate volumes. Which amp is the better choice?

  19. I drive my Heresy's III with an integrated MP-501 MK-V Tube amp ( kt-120's, 55wpc) and their is NO substitute to that beautiful silky sound of tubes with all heritage Klipsch speakers. .... I have tried many excellent SS amps, 100-300 wps, and that sound was never the same. Go tube ironman !

  20. Did a little reading about Gin martinis. Think I'm going to try a Plymouth Gin/Dolin vermouth, stirred vigorously and served with all ingredients and glass very cold. Olives or lemon peel. Need to find the parts and I will report back. Also read something about bartending/mixology that shaking"bruises" the vodka.

It is all manual with regards to F stop and focus but its tack sharp and punched far above its weight in regards to price: https://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-FE14M-C-Ultra-Canon-Black/dp/B003VSGQPG/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1530911452&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=rokinon+14mm+canon&psc=1

  25. A couple of years ago @teaman made that recommendation for the used SR-120 to me as well and I picked one up directly from the Emotiva ebay site for used stuff for $400 shipped. The Bad: Mine was bad out of the box, it was obvious Emotiva did not properly service it before sending it out to me. When I contacted them about the problem they did not argue, did not even ask any questions. They immediately refunded my $400. I am 100% satisfied with the way they treated me. The Good: Exactly as Tim described, the SR-120 is a BEAST and easily bested my 2014 Onkyo TX NR717 at 125 wpc, and my 2017 Marantz SR6011, also at 125 wpc although the Marantz is a LOT closer to the Sherbourn in sheer power and sound quality. The Sherbourn is above both those. If you don't need Atmos and the newer HDMI spec outputs the Sherbourn has that "old school" sound and power the new AVR's just don't have. +++ Again, mine had a remote that wouldn't work and then the power supply ( I think) went out, so buyer beware. Sending PM for a deal for you.

  26. I agree with what others have said about getting slightly used. As long as it manages the lossless audio codecs found on Blu Ray you should be good to go for the next few years at least if you have a standard 5.1 or 7.1 system. Even if it cant do 4K pass through or DolbyVision or whatever you can get an HDMI splitter to run the video directly to the TV and the audio will go to the AVR.

  29. If possible put one sub in the center of the front wall and one sub in the center of the rear wall. You'll get better room coverage that way. Square rooms are about the worst shape though. Put your listening position about 2/3 of the way into the room away from the speakers.

  30. Thanks for all the replies and second opinions. All the input is highly valued and I'm glad I posted to ask for feedback! Yes, authorized dealer as far as I know (as others have posted here). I've wanted Forte iii's since they first came out, but couldn't afford the price tag, so I got in on the recent Adorama $900 each deal. I did contact them, sent pictures, and they've been helpful so far, but apparently don't have Cherry in stock to send as a replacement. I'll see what happens in the next few days. Thanks for all the suggestions. And yes, I would be obsessed with the imperfections.

  32. With the BMS driver they may sound pretty good. i had the EV DH1A on mine and though it had that big horn sound, something was off. I ended up selling and going back to the HP640. its then i realized it was the driver. To be honest, for the asking price, i would save some more and get get some K402s working my way into a pair of Jubilees.

  33. I do not know if the recording technique has been the same for all the examples above, but to me the Altec 817 HP9040 (the first one) sounds best, certainly the cleanest of them all here. I would put Cornwalls to the second place. In last example it seems that something is wrong with the recording process, the sound is generally smeared. Tonality in Altecs (the first) and Cornwalls are somehow correct. However, in my opinion neither of them plays high piano notes correct. They seem too bright. Cornwall is the best here.

  35. Yes that is a fact! If you want more, the same researcher (PWK) also discovered that the largest single cabinet that could be built from a single 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" plywood was the Cornwall. That's real practical American logic at work for you. Thanks to Paul for having a sharp mind.

  36. Agree fully with rplace. EAC is NOT a swiss Armny knife. It does ONE thing and does it as well as science will allow. It automatically varies rip speed to error correction. If EAC can't rip it, you need to talk to the NSA or somebody. Probably the best free deal for audio you will ever find. Dave

  37. Bottlehead S.E.X. amp! Excellent headphone amp, and can drive most horn speakers to pleasing levels. What a fun project! https://bottlehead.com/product/single-ended-experimenters-kit-3-for-headphones-sensitive-speakers/ Rick

  39. IMHO, bi-wiring from the same amp is ridiculous. What you are doing, basically, is using the amp outputs as though you are running two pairs of speakers, which lowers the impedance, and ALSO makes the amplifier section work harder, generating more heat, and heat is the enemy of electronic components. You MAY WELL "HEAR" a "difference", but that "difference" is highly likely just the difference in impedance caused by the bi-amping from two sets of speaker outputs on the same amp. EVERYBODY judges the sound of the music which they hear based upon pre-conceived notions...it is human nature. Not only that, but, for instance, have you ever heard a song that you loved when you were much younger, but the "QUALITY" speakers you heard it through more recently had you dumbfounded just because it didn't sound as good as you remembered it to sound? Think about that for a minute or two...think about the listening environment conditions in which that you first started to love the song so many years ago....was it being played on the radio??...in your car??...with the windows rolled down and traveling 60 mph?...through those crappy rear deck speakers supplied by the car maker??...etc. etc., etc. You have highly-likely been fooled by your own memories of ending up loving a particular song under horrid listening environment conditions....and now you are listening to it through expensive highly-efficient fully-horn-loaded ACCURATE sound reproducers and you hear everything BAD in the recording of the song that the crappy listening environment way back in the past HID from your ears...it is what it is. Everybody's ears are different, and everybody's pre-conceived notions of "good sound" are ALSO different.

  47. Man, I love this forum! I just received my Ti mids from Wuzzzer in the mail and have my horns apart and noticed no polarity markings. Knew right off where to look... And here it is in a post from FIVE years ago by the very same gentleman I bought the diaphragms from! It has taken me all of ten minutes to resolve my dilemna. Positive is LARGE. Right on. And thanks Wuzzzer, twice!
